Was it McClaren who started bringing through all the yoof at Boro?
Can't remember. Probably. He bought a lot of players too though I believe

Lerner has been quoted as guaranteeing O'Neill stays at Villa so we can chalk him off the top of the list.

Thank fuck for that.

so Martin staying, Roy staying.....

Foreign manager it is then. This is not going to be decided soon is it

One things clear from this thread; 6cm is most probably the most anti-Rafa Liverpool forum around, and yet after a veritable car-crash of a season Benitez has still received (as I write) more than double the votes of any likely candidate to replace him.

He's either the right man for the job or there's simply no-one available who could do any better.

Of course, should Mourinho profess his undying love for all things Scouse that'd soon change.

Given that selection - Rafa*

* This would only be on the proviso that Lucas is sold.
any manager with Lucas, Insua and N'gog as first team player will struggle to succeed. 🙁

"Iron Felix" Magath

He's Rosco's choice.

I think you are right, it's not that it shows any loyalty, he has polled (up to now) less than half the votes against some rather lack lustre options

regards

Ever been on TLW. There are posters there who get froth in the mouth at the site of Rafa. 6cm is not rawk but it is far more balanced than TLW. I think it gets the impression of being anti rafa as the posters who dominate this forum are more anti-rafa than some of the quieter ones.

I'd be okay with Dechamps or Blanc
You can cross Blanc off your list:

"World Cup winner Laurent Blanc will quit as Bordeaux coach and replace Raymond Domenech as manager of France after this summer's World Cup.

The 44-year-old former Manchester United defender guided Bordeaux to the 2009 League and Cup Double but his side ended this season without a trophy.

The French federation is expected to officially confirm Blanc as Domenech's successor on Thursday.

Blanc was part of the France team that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

Bordeaux said in a statement: "Girondins Bordeaux have been informed by Laurent Blanc that he wanted to answer favourably to the French federation (FFF)'s solicitation to become the France coach.

Blanc proved he was able to be in charge at club level. But coaching a national team is a different job.

Raymond Domenech

"Girondins Bordeaux expect to hear from the FFF on the question of the compensation linked to the release of their coach."

Blanc had a successful career as a centre-back at Barcelona, Marseille and Inter Milan.

But, after success as a manager with Bordeaux in 2009, his side finished sixth in the league this season and were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage by fellow French side Lyon.

Domenech has long bore the brunt of fans' frustrations following a disappointing Euro 2008 campaign where France picked up only one point and finished bottom of their group.

But the Frenchman said he had not been told whether he would be replaced by Blanc after the World Cup in South Africa.

"I'm not the one who decides on this," said Domenech.

"Blanc proved he was able to be in charge at club level. But coaching a national team is a different job.

"He will have to be ready immediately because the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign starts in September."

France start their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on 11 June."

I can accept that there are few select managers better qualified than Rafa to lead us out of this rut. Having little or no money to spend may be a blessing in disguise as Rafa will be forced to play a few of the youngster like Kelly, Pacheco, Amoo, Ngoo and Nemeth if he returns.

Huh?

I suspect Bunny's surprise is concentrated on your first sentence, the reason being that Rafa himself has contributed big-time to getting into the rut in the first place.

As far as your second sentence is concerned, I'm not sure Rafa will stay if there isn't any money to spend. I suspect that's what's holding up the talks between him and the club (hence also any progress on new investment, as any possible purchasers will want the managerial situation to be clear one way or the other).

I actually think it's much simpler; the part 'if he returns' sounds like it's talking about Rafa, not Nemeth 8)

Nope, I just don't agree with any of your assumptions Roland. Rafa is the right man to get us out of this rut? It'd be a blessing in disguise to have a bunch of kids playing for us?

I mean, have you watched us this past season?

He would be my first choice too.

Graham Hunter said yesterday that Mourinho has had talks with Real, but there were one job he was keeping his eye on and tabs on the developments. And that club would be without CL footy next season, but that didn't matter. He then said to Ray Houghton; "and this club is close to your heart", or something like that.

Could a potential investor have sounded out Jose and contactd him? Or is GH full of shite?

I know there are rumours about Broughton wanting the club sold befor the WC is finished and then also the manager situation resolved obvs.

There's no way that Mourinho is going to manage us next season. No way.

I guess we're stuck with Rafa since the Juve deal is dead in the water. No club is going to take him off us.

rafa turned them down, not the other way around. if rafa wanted to jump ship he'd let loads of offers.

Rafa turned them down? I'm not so sure. The way I read about the situation in the Italian press it was more like Rafa didn't give them a decision in a reasonable amount of time so they looked elsewhere.

But it doesn't really matter in the end. We're stuck with him.

*sighs*

This is from Graham Hunter a couple of weeks ago, kind of ties in with what you're saying. Where did you see this? (or are you taking the piss?!)

JOSE Mourinho will leave Milan to manage Real Madrid irrespective of whether he brings Inter their first European Cup for 45 years.

Jose Mourinho has told Inter’s board this will be his last season at the San Siro and negotiations with Madrid are so advanced that transfer targets have already been discussed.

One of his premium targets is Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, who perfectly fits both Madrid’s need for a top-class left-back and Mourinho’s preference for taking players he knows and trusts to a new club.

Even if Inter were to suffer the setback of losing to Barcelona tonight in the Champions League semi-final, despite their 3-1 first-leg lead, it would not affect Madrid’s desire to land him.

Discussions have fallen just short of a signed agreement but Mourinho would now only reject Madrid if one of the Premier League’s blue-riband clubs, such as Liverpool or Manchester United, were to offer him a position this summer .

There are reports in some papers saying that Inter will approach Rafa if Mourinho leaves.
I bet the Inter fans will be delighted with that news: losing possibly the best manager in the world who has delivered two titles and a CL final and getting Benitez as replacement.

Can you imagine the outcry?

Lets not go overboard now, Rafa would probably do well there with the resources and headstart Inter have there over everyone else at least.

Its one thing saying hes run stale here, but I'd say the Inter fans would be far from gutted at having a manager who has himself won a CL, 2 La Liga titles and who's management style would probably suit Italian football down to the ground.

maybe rafa is hated by 'some' liverpool fans but his reputation aboard is still very high. two CL finals in three years tells its own story
