I suppose it was enivitable that once Comolli came on board we would be linked with St Etienne players by journalists looking for an easy story. However this story originated at the end of October, a week or so before Comolli joined us and may have a little more substance than expected.
Ayone know anything about him? Bunnyman? Are there any other St Etienne players that we might be interested in.

Saint-Etienne are bracing themselves for a bid from Liverpool for their captain Blaise Matuidi following the arrival of Damien Comolli at Anfield.

Former Spurs director Comolli, who will head up Liverpool's transfer policy after being appointed as director of football strategy, rates the all action midfielder very highly.

Arsenal are also thought to be tracking the France international, but the arrival of Comolli - from Saint-Etienne - has given Liverpool the upper hand in prising one of France's most promising prospects away from Ligue 1.

Italian giants Juventus are also monitoring the situation and have been linked with Matuidi as they look to bolster their midfield, but a move to England is more likely for the France star.

Matuidi said last month after being asked about the Juventus links, "It is nice to know a club like Juventus is following you or asking about you. (But) the league that would suit me best is the Premier League.

"This is due to tactical, cultural and physical reasons, and the atmosphere in the stadiums."

Comolli, who quit Saint-Etienne on Tuesday before sealing his move to Liverpool, fought hard to keep Matuidi at the French club during his tenure but admitted that eventually he would join a big club.

"He is our captain and a major player for us," he was quoted as saying last month. "He's done well for us last season but we convinced him to stay.

"But i'm not being naive, I know it will be difficult to keep him and know he will end up in England or one of the top clubs in Europe. Whoever comes in for him, it will cost them a lot of money."

Liverpool are ready to spend in January and Matuidi fits the profile of being a young, emerging talent. He would definitely bring a physical edge to the Liverpool midfield and the player who has been earmarked by France boss Laurent Blanc as the saviour of Les Bleus is now a full international after playing in France's 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina last month.

New Liverpool owner John W Henry has demanded that the club be smarter in the transfer market and improve the stock of young players coming through in the way that Manchester United and Arsenal have in recent years. The signing of Matuidi would represent a major coup by Liverpool as the player is wanted by many side across Europe.

Never heard of him. Never seen him play.
But I really, really want him, because the more CM players we have, the more likely it is that The Cunt Twins leave Anfield.

Dimitri Payet is another one of their better players. Havent seen either but my mate who watches the ligue 1 thinks they are good.

St. Etienne is a good team that's all I know. Watched them a few Seasons ago in a couple of matches but can't recollect anyone standing out in particular apart from the team as a whole.

They are faring quite well in Ligue 1 this Season too.

I want us to sign midfielders from the French league in the age-region of 23 to 25-years-old.

Just like when Juve bought one Zizou from Bordeaux.

We'll be linked with all kinds of players, most of them French from now on, and many of those links will turn out to be bullshit.

However, given that we have just got Comolli in, amongst those will be at least one fairly high profile signing. They won't all be untrue.

I know nothing of this fella but Comolli's record seems pretty good, and if its true that other big clubs want him then its worth a go.

So it is us and Juve again? After exchanging cms for some years we now Chase the same one? Cant be good then 🙂

I bought him on PES06 and he turned out to be one of my best players, what more need you hear?

Don't you control the players on PES06? I bet you could make Lucas good if you tried.

Hmmm, you shouldn't be too blaise about this guy.

I've only seen him play in that Bosnia match, when he came on as a sub for 20 mins when France were already controlling the game. I don't remember his contribution at all, but I've heard/read he's very much in the mould of Lassana Diarra.

Sounds promising, although it's a shame Commoli had to come out with those quotes about him costing a lot of money. I have a feeling that might be brought up in transfer negotiations.

I read somewhere that his contract expeires next summer.

We're going to get linked to Matuidi and Payet every day until january.

Just read on goal.com that we're planning to ship Poulsen in January.

Comolli moving quickly in the market for Poulsen's replacement. Smart move.

Selling Poulsen immediately it the only way we'll recoup anything for him.

Hopefully there is someone who is a bigger mug than we are. Doubt it, though.

Looks like Poulson could go down as the least successful signing we've ever made.

There's a strange symmetry to the role Roy has played in his career.

I feel better about the Poulsen situation if and when Juventus sign Aquilani for £13M and he gets injured for 2 years in some Hargreaves-esque situation.

Pay back.
