I don't know how legit this link is but an Israeli daily is reporting that Liverpool are looking to buy Hapoel Tel Aviv's ST Itay Shechter in Jan.

He's a 21/22 year old kid, with explosive speed, and has improved dramatically over the past 18 months.

Is he Liverpool quality? Don't think so, but he'd be a solid bench option (I guess to replace Babel?).

Anyways cheers for the info LTW.

oh, him.
thats that cleared up then.

First linked with him in Oct:

Scouts from Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and West Ham were in Germany on Wednesday night to watch striker Itay Shechter.

The Israeli scored in Hapoel Tel Aviv's 3-1 defeat in the Champions League against Schalke 04 and did enough to impress.

Earlier this month, Tottenham chief scout Ian Broomfield watched him against Lyon and the 23-yearold scored in both of Israel's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Croatia and Greece. Hapoel wanted £2.5million for Shechter in the summer when he was linked with Celtic and Birmingham.

But with the striker has improved on last season's performances when he was the country's top scorer with 25 goals as Hapoel won a league and cup double, so his club could up the price to £7m in January.

But Shechter would struggle to gain a work permit. Non-EU residents need to have represented their country in 75 per cent of matches over the past two years but Shechter has played in only eight of Israel's 15 matches (53 per cent).

His agent has documents to prove the Israeli has missed games due to injury and suspension
but he may still struggle to get a permit.

Is he any good, LTW?

Israeli teams has improved in the past years and has made more than a few upsets in Europe. There's got to be some good players downthere at least.

Check this link out for a detailed "scouting report"

Sounds interesting.
Until last season, Shechter was just unfulfilled potential. He used to drive his coaches – including his coach at Maccabi Netanya Lothar Matthaus - crazy, dribbling far too much and making poor decisions.

But Shechter got his head down, worked hard at his game and last year tore the league to pieces for Double winners Hapoel.

Shechter is still far from fulfilling his great promise but under the right guidance and in a better training environment, he has the potential to rip even top teams to shreds.

Put it this way, he caused headaches against Benfica & Schalke. As I said, he's extremely pacy, and is rather technical. He's a solid player as of now, but whether he can contribute at the EPL level? As I said, who knows. As of now, at best, a bench option.

I immediatley thought of the nickname shittay sphincster when i saw the thread title so he's bound to be bobbins.

He's brilliant.
Not sure if he's got the attitude to make it at the highest levels and adjust to life in the cold rainy UK winters, but he definitely has the attributes as far as footballing skills are concerned.
He quick, skillful, goes past defenders for fun, has improved his scoring records over the last 18 months. I've been hoping that we make a move for him.

But then, I'm an Israeli just like LTW, so what do I know.

I think there's a difference between bias and a bit of extra insight -which i think is what we're getting here from Jimmy and LTW. We got that from KHL in the beginning too but when we all see the player and know him inside out you'll see whether bias exists.

BTW, There are reports that Hapoel Tel Aviv are set to losing Shechter and keepr Eniema (Nigeria's keepr who had a good WC) in the January transfer window. I hope we sign Shechter. Worths a try.

You really think he's brilliant? I mean compared to his days in Netanya, he's grown up tremendously ... and yes, he goes by defenders for fun - but he's done it against 'small' European teams and/or int'l teams (like Croatia). Who knows - as I said, he'd be an immediate 'bench upgrade' and if he can 'advance' like he did with HaPoel, then maybe he could take a larger role in the 1st team.

He could only show his worths against the opposition he was facing.
So far he's been raising he's game to the new levels of challenge he was facing. Hope he can do that again if brought into the EPL

The new Ronnie Rosenthal?

Different kind of player. Much better on the ball. Not as powerful (yet?).

Will he ever be added to the list of world class Israeli footballers?

Come on man - Haim Revivo wasn't bad for Celta (with Mostvoi & Karpin)! He was amongst the best players in Spain for a year.

But bottom line, we don't produce great athletes and probably never will - shitty sports infrastructure and most kids will put their sports careers to the side when they turn 18.

Take it easy LTW, at least we don't claim to be a footballing world power.
Brendan''s country on the other hand does, and we all watch how great England are again and again...

I guess Israel is part of Africa after all ... 😉

Uganda was an option before palestine so in some ways yes .Israel is part of the universe ,the solar system,a planet on its own located in the middle east and plays football in europe and is being considered for the african cup of nations .
