Fucking wake up lads. GJ is a right back not a LB. We need a LB
Yup, GJ is a RB in the same way as Phillip Lahm is a right back. Oh..........wait :🙂

Glenn will play where he's best suited to play for Liverpool. Until he wakes up at RB it's going to be left back. Simple as.
not sure I agree with that Wiz.

He only played left-back at the end of last season cos we had no one else capable of playing there. He's a right-back, and thats where he should be playing.

There's a reason we were in for Clichy... we need a left back and Kenny and everyone associated with the club surely know this.

Johnson will start at right back and we'll a proper left back to start on the other side.

Whatever the reason why he first got put at LB, he played better there than he has at RB for us. Carra did the exact same thing under the exact same circs.during the Treble season. Based on what he's actually done out on the pitch so far, shifting him back to RB would be a mistake.

I agree as far as RB is his best position but in terms of value for the team I'd be tempted to start him at LB again moving Kelly in at RB. Aurelio is not going to play I guess and Robinson is probably a bit too young still albeit very promising.

Even though he's shown recently he's actually better at left back? Even when he reverted to RB for the odd game he looked nowhere near as composed or comfortable as he did on the left. He might be a right back but question marks over his best position have plagued his career, with reason.

Career?

I don't remember anyone saying anything of the sort when he was at West Ham or Portsmouth.

At Portsmouth, where he often played right midfield? Alot of people have spent the last couple of years championing playing him there too, because we needed pace and because of his defensive issues.

I don't doubt that there was some discussion of it on here, someone on here always wants to play someone out of position.

He played well for Portsmouth at right back (right back in the PFA team of year whilst there), hence the reason why we signed him. He did play at right midfield occasionally, but that was more to do with their small squad.

I fear that Kelly's hamstrings are not up to a season at LB. If I thought that he could play there consistently, I would reluctantly accept Glen playing at LB in the event that we dont sign one.

Otherwise its RB for Glen and future CB for Martin as far as Im concerned.

I think he played consistently well at LB - something he failed to do for us at RB. Maybe that had something to do with his feeling the heat and the fact his place in the team was under threat - I'm not sure.

My main point on it was that so many people have been jumping up and down about an LB. I don't think it's anywhere near the top of our list of priorities. A thumping big CB who can bring the ball out of defence would be great, either a player for out wide on the right or another option up front are the priorities IMO. If we sign an LB then fair enough - we've certainly signed enough CM's.

The issue is that I can't see an LB on the horizon that is going to come here and significantly improve on what we finished last season with in the same position. The middle of the defense and out wide on the right of midfield;- that's a different story.

I think he was naturally a little more cautious and thoughtful at left back, which in turn made him look more assured.
