Lambert round 2

If Aspas doesn't give up the number 9 for him I'm gonna send the boys round (that means I'll be slightly miffed & bang my hands angrily on the table)

That interview with Lambert on SSN was great. Showed his respect for Southampton by ducking some of the tricky and unreasonable questions about one or two other S'ton players potentially joining us too. You could tell he was buzzing though. A dream move for him.

What we did last year was based on many variables - one of those being the 'feel good' factor we generated in and around the club.

This is a win/win for us ... You have a player who'll be buzzing and working his socks off every second he gets to 'live the dream,' and a fairly good '3rd striker' option. At 4 million, it's excellent business and I hope he has a smashing career here.

This. It all reminds me of the Aldridge signing. Every time Aldo ran out in a Liverpool shirt you could see he was enjoying every second, and it paid off big-time for us. If this signing gets even close to that one, we're on to a winner.

Rickie Lambert will be announced as a Liverpool player tomorrow – but the move for his Southampton team-mate Adam Lallana is poised to drag on.

Lambert will become Brendan Rodgers’ first major signing of the summer after passing a medical and agreeing terms on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old Kirkby-born forward arrived at the city’s Spire Hospital at around nine o’clock yesterday morning and was then taken to Melwood ahead of a flight back down to Southampton later in the afternoon.

The Reds had already agreed a fee in the region of £4million with Southampton, with the transfer completed tomorrow when the relevant paperwork is registered.

However, Liverpool’s pursuit of Lallana has reached an impasse with the Saints digging in their heels over the 26-year-old midfielder.

Southampton rejected the Reds’ opening bid of £20m and have shown no signs of accepting an improved final offer of £25m.
The Saints are seeking top dollar as they must pass on a 25% of the fee to Lallana’s former club Bournemouth.

Lallana is being courted by several other teams – including Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by his former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino – but the player would prefer to play Champions League football at Anfield next season.

Lambert spoke briefly at Liverpool Airport before flying back south following yesterday’s medical.

“The medical went well but as you know I can’t say anything,” he said. “I’ll speak properly about it, hopefully, very shortly.

“It’s been a crazy football year to be honest, the way it’s carrying on.”

Having helped Saints to two promotions and then impressing in the Premier League, he admits he will leave St Mary’s with a heavy heart.
He said: “There’s lots of emotions as you can imagine so it’s something I need to address and obviously I will address all parties when I get the chance.”

Liverpool were keen to conclude negotiations with Lambert heading off to England’s pre-World Cup training camp in the United States today.

With Lallana also part of Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad , the Reds are likely to face a wait before discovering the outcome of their prolonged pursuit of the midfielder.

Meanwhile, both Lambert and Lallana come up against surprise opposition at the World Cup in the form of Liverpool centre-back Sebastian Coates.

Coates suffered a serious knee injury in August and spent the second half of last season back home in Uruguay on loan at Nacional to continue his rehabilitation.

And a clutch of performances in recent weeks has been enough to earn Coates a place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad along with Luis Suarez.

Huddersfield Town chairman says no to Bristol Rovers' Lambert

DEAN HOYLE today scotched rumours of continued Town interest in Rickie Lambert and said both he and manager Lee Clark are delighted with the five signings made so far this close-season.

Despite denials by the Galpharm club and Bristol Rovers, stories of a deal for the £750,000-rated striker, who was a Town transfer target last January, refuse to go away.

However chairman Hoyle, who is cycling 70 miles a week as he prepares for his charity bike ride to the opening League I match at Southend United on Saturday, August 8 (see Page 10), insisted: “A move for Rickie Lambert is a no-no.

“No disrespect to a very good player, but it’s a simple matter of economics. Any deal would cost a minimum of £750,000 plus add-ons for a player who is 27 and who would want a three-year contract.

“Even if he scored 30 goals a season for those three years, by the time the contract is at an end, the player would be 30, and therefore there would be little or no resale value.

“That means that even before meeting wage demands, the signing would cost £5,000 a week, and this club cannot do that kind of business.

“If Rickie Lambert was 22 or 23, it would be a different matter, but he’s not and suggestions that we will sign him are nonsense.”

......other less interesting stuff..........”

In every one of those photos he's grinning from ear to ear. Not the usual smile players give, but a genuine fuck off great Cheshire cat grin.

Made up for him, & he'll blatantly work his arse off for us.

yeah i've never seen someone so happy to be signing for us

Rickie Lambert has penned an open letter to all at Southampton Football Club following his move to Liverpool.

Southampton has been my life for the past five years, in which we have achieved all of our dreams and more.

First I have to thank Markus Liebherr for saving Southampton then Alan Pardew for bringing me to the club.

Thank you to all the staff involved in making me the player I am today. Without your knowledge and commitment I would not be here right now at a World Cup with England.

Thank you to all the players, past and present, who I have had nothing but good times and success with driven by our club captain, Kelvin Davis. I love every last one of you.

Thank you to the managers I have worked with – Alan, Nigel and Mauricio – and their teams for helping me and Southampton step up and adapt to every challenge that has come our way the past five years.

When I grew up there was only one club I loved. I can honestly say now I have two clubs which will always be in my heart and that is thanks to the Saints fans.

The people who support this club have been nothing short of amazing towards me and, when I look back in years to come, it will be the relationship I had with the fans here which will stand out the most.

Southampton have allowed me to realise a lifelong ambition by joining Liverpool FC and taking my family home. The five-year plan when I arrived was to get this club from League 1 to the top half of the Premier League. Against all the odds we have achieved that.

Now, under Katharina Liebherr’s leadership, the club has the chance for new plan, a new chapter, and I wish them all the success in the world.

Rickie Lambert

Rickie!

Great news and will also have helped build a successful buyer-seller relationship with Southampton which may be useful as the Lallana situation progresses.
