I think Skrtel has been very good this season. He and Gerrard are the only players who should be proud of their work so far this year.

And Modokay when a player played a game like Carragher did in Istanbul he NEVER deserves the line 'This guy has really fucked us over at times'.
Please take that back.
that could be about the richest thing i've ever seen on here given some of the things you've called benitez - who was also in istanbul, if i recall - over the last few months.
I cant even be bothered responding with any real effort to that Peter. No matter what i say about the difference between a player socks rolled down dead on his feet throwing himself into just one more last ditch challenge to keep us in a game and.........you know what fuck it, i really cant be arsed. Lets just imagine you staggered me on my heels with blinding pomposity and arrogance. Well done you.
yeah you're right! our champions league-winning manager is a cunt!

fucking mini-brain.
There is a slight difference in comparing the two, though.

One has given 10 years of loyalty to the club and has been the lynchpin in our defence for a very long time; so to be spoken of in such dismissive terms kind of denigrates everything that this club stands for.

The other, whilst achieving a lot for this club as well, also shares a lot of responsibility for the club being in the trouble we find ourselves in, creative financing or not.

(I do think Rafa isn't given enough credit for what he has achieved, and I can say that even though I think he should have gone)

I hope we get a good manager soon, and that we can put the Night of the Long Goatees behind us.

We did offer him a new contract, but he ripped it up and ate it.

Rumour has it a new one is being carved into a stone tablet, but this takes time

I've been completely enamored with the Greek whenever hes' played. He's got heart and he's tough. Perfect for us, plus he's good!

As for Roffa, I just will never get the hating. He brought me my best nights and days as a Liverpool Fan, and deserves great thanks, even if he made plenty of errors. I look forward to the day, when Roffa is discussed less and less, like Houllier was eventually.

Hopefully we can turn that *corner* soon

I heard he'll only accept if we sacrifice Poulsen in honour of him. Ok then.

Thought Carra played well today.

A few too many "MAXIIIIIIIIIIII!" screams, only for him to just shunt it straight back to him for my liking, but meh.

Clear tactic from Hodgson (that's right, a *tactic* from Hodgson) to use the wings more, and try to spread Blackburn. Which did work I suppose, so credit where it's due. Carra hugely benefited from Pederson's drifting inside - which effectively left Givet doubling up on Carra and Maxi who drifted infield quite often, to leave Carra the right wing to himself.

He didn't do an awful lot with it when he got it, but at least it spread Blackburn, gave us better balance, as well as an 'out' ball, it penned B'burn back a bit more, and we got more balls into the box than in previous weeks.

So yeah, not bad.
I think youve just disproved your own statement whilst making it there lid.

Kyriakos clearly has some limitations, being good in the air, a big heart and a pretty good defensive brain do not come into whatever those limitations might be.
That being the case, and on the balance of form, I would make him my first choice centre back. The problem there is that you can't afford to have Carra alongside him as both suffer with lack of pace. Kyriakos also has a more cerebral outlook on distribution than the carra of late.
So Kyriakos and Sktrtel at the moment will do me, although I would prefer to see Agger in the formation when fit, ie Kyriakos and Agger.
As has been said Carra did OK at right back today , and the way GlenJo has been playing on current form would leave him there, but for one very good reason, I think Kelly is developing into a very good player and should be given a chance, things are starting to look a bit tight for Carra, it's not a sin to say it , it's just the way it is said.

Clearly.

Largely agree, Vlad. I really like the Greek lad and his aerial prowess is really needed in our defence and has yielded two goals in two league games for us. He's number one in my opinion and some pace beside his makes a nice combination.

Seems a strange time to be giving Carragher a £90,000 per week two year contract.

We still need Carra, even as a talismanic figure, and £90k will soften the blow of him sitting out more and more matches over the coming months and years. My only worry, and I am not sure how well founded this is, is Carra having a bit too much to say on things and being a bit quick to look to blame other people including officials for some of his increasing shortcomings, he needs to start living with that a bit.

Considering how pathetic we have looked all season in the air at the back The Greek should be the first name on the team sheet at the back.

For his aerial ability alone.

Being a threat at set pieces shouldn't matter but with our lack of goals from open play at the moment it can't be overlooked.

The Greek really has done very little wrong since joining considering the few and the disappointment of most fans upon hearing we were in for him.

I'd pick Agger over Skrtel. Carragher did well on the right, with decent crosses. Shame about being top scorer of own goals tho!
The two against Man U and the one vs West Ham, Oh and Tottenham....Jesus this guy has really fucked us over sometimes.
he's been right at the heart of the best things this club has done for the past 20 years, so show a bit of respect ffs.
Yeah you're right. But come on leading OG scorer. It is a bit funny.
Maybe I'm alone but I've always figured a defender that scores alot of own goals puts himself in a position to try and stop certain goals where those that don't score them often hide.

I think Skrtel has been very good this season. He and Gerrard are the only players who should be proud of their work so far this year.

And Modokay when a player played a game like Carragher did in Istanbul he NEVER deserves the line 'This guy has really fucked us over at times'.

that could be about the richest thing i've ever seen on here given some of the things you've called benitez - who was also in istanbul, if i recall - over the last few months.
Ha. Rafa nearly cost us the game that night not the other way around. Starting an injured player while leaving your best DM off against the best attack in Europe.

Pfft. Stevie G and Jamie Carragher were what Istanbul was about.

Now that's a controversial post. Rafa was as much a part of Istanbul as anybody on the pitch. To suggest otherwise is utterly fucking stupid.

And THE prime reason we had a fucking chance of being there was Rafa. I can't believe we are still doing this, and I can't believe you still have the nerve to take up such hyperbolic language. I mean, first you exhibited total contrarian blindness to any success we had in recent memory under rafa, even when we were playing a standard of football which I'd fucking kill to see with anywhere like the same consistency now. Then this wierd, contrarian optimism looking forward to a season with a manager who has achieved far less, in a situation that was completely fucking dire, in a fucking mess of a summer.

We know what happened next. Your contrarian position was exposed as completely wrong.

But no, there's no cause for a reevaluation of your positions at all. Why not just start back at square one again with the old boring one about how Rafa almost cost us at Istanbul, or how we'd have won the title if not for him being the one that was in charge having got us so close to winning the title. God, for all we achieved in spite of him, it's strange how we haven't hit the ground running in his absence.

I don't even want to talk about Rafa anymore either, and I'd love for us all to just move on. With that in mind, would it kill you to just take up a reasonable, even handed position about him? Here's a tip for you to start with, try not poking around his single biggest achievement to find failures. It makes you look fucking absurd.
