Kyrgiakos + Skrtel, for now...

You're also not doing yourself any favours at all.

You seem to only give credence to the idea of supporting someone based on his nationality, which probably wasnt your intent.

Skrtel is definitely not undroppable, the point is however that Agger is not Hansen..and he'll have to earn his place back which will be when Skrtel plays poorly.

The Skrtel/Agger argument can sometimes get more polarised than it should (not uncommon on internet forums) but I honestly don't think there are many people (any?) on here who reckon Agger isn't a good defender. What some of us, myself included, do think is that his particular fans on here - and Kristian isn't the only one TBF - overpraise him and undersell Skrtel by comparison.

They will no doubt disagree with me on the next point, but IMO Agger or any other player in his situation should have to earn his place back. Skrtel's done nothing to merit being dropped - quite the contrary in fact - and Agger absolutely should not get a free pass back into the team at his expense. If that puts Agger's nose out of joint, frankly that's his problem.
I agree whole-heartedly with your first sentiment Jules. Anyone should battle their way back into the team if they are not Reina, Carra, Gerrard or Torres. Or do you reckon they should too? Just curious mate.

Anyways the point I don't agree with is Skrtel or anyone else for that matter playing so good they are undropable so far. Quite the contrary. Against the probably poorest team at Anfield all Season in Blackburn they looked anything but solid. The way Skrtel got skinned for pace with ease was kind of illustrating really for our flaws at the back most of the Season. His ball back to Reina within the last few minutes is another good example why I don't really trust in him over the course of 90 min or a Season for that matter. He's normally boss in the first 20 minutes mind but always seems to drop from there on.

PS MARK1975 with regards to Bendtner. He's got the potential to be fucking awesome. IF he was say Welsh you'd then put him on your list too? He's Welsh. Start loving him, now.

Loving him because he's Welsh?

You really don't know the English very well,Kris.

;D

Everyone in England loves Giggs. What do you mean?

Ok ok I know Welsh wasn't the most obvious of choice but their boarder is close to Anfield if nothing else.

Mark is not-supporting someone because of their nationality. That was what I meant.

Anyways I was merely jesting. Let it go. I'm right, you think you are too but deep down know I am. Right?

Haha I've actually wondered that myself. At least Eastern-European.

Anyways Mark's a bit of a saint really and I'm not joking. He defends the 'weak' or at least those who's often beeing criticized by others especially if it's a tad unfair.

For that I respect him greatly. And maybe I've been a bit to hard on ol Skittles in the past so I'll try to do better in the future.

Promise.

If any of Pepe, Carra, Stevie or Torres were injured or suspended and we were winning in their absence - no, I wouldn't automatically bring them back. It's highly unlikely with the squad we've got, but if we were in that happy position I'd have them on the bench until it became clear that we had to have them back in the team.

Skrtel had his shakier moments against Blackburn, it's true. I don't think they were bad enough or frequent enough to warrant dropping though - and, as far as pace is concerned, if Skrtel was skinned it's a safe bet Agger would have been skinned even worse, since Skrtel's the quicker of the two.
He got skinned because he approached his opponent the wrong way not because he was particularly fast. He attacked the ball with no eye on the movement beeing made hence he just stood there as an Agger-tatooed statue watching football.

I'd drop Kyrgiakos before I'd drop Skrtel mind especially as soon as our opponents gets a little better than Blackburn as he's simply to slow and not quite good enough to make up for it either in positioning nor technique. If Agger's fit I think it's fair enough that he starts on the bench all I'm saying is that I don't think neither of his direct opponents has played that well either. For one I'm not one bit confident in our defense at this stage.
Skrtel was at fault for the goal, they cut in on the left and the challenge was there to be made and he looked like he bottled it and tried to hold the player up instead, maybe because it was asking him to tackle on his weaker side, and his back pass at the end of the game was a bit of a heart-stopper, when he over hit the pass back to Reina and he had to control it. That said I've been impressed with his general defensive play of late, particularly in the last two games, he's looked a bit more composed, controlled and when he's had to he's launched himself whole-heartedly in the way of danger. None of our partnerships fill me with confidence right now, I'd like to see how Skrtel and Agger do, with Carra remaining at right back just to give us that extra bit of solidity, at least for the tougher games anyway.

Is there any takers for this deal in the summer?

Out = Kyrgiakos, and Martin Skrtel
In = Oguchi Onyewu

* For Milan, he was out injured with a knee injure for most of last season, so he offered to have his contract extended by one year for no extra pay. It's hard to find characters like that.
* He is an absolute monster in the air. I remember he dominated so much for USA in the world cup.
* He is as quick, if not quicker than Agger, Skrtel all.
* Not really great at playing the ball from the back, but he is more of a stopper than a Maldini type defender. He is as good as Carra in this aspect.
* He is 27/28 and not too old for a defender. He is an American to top it all off.

I was a bit surprised Newcastle didn't keep him at the time as he seemed to do alright for them.

There *must* be something up with the guy, i.e. he's not very good, if he had to go back to Belgium after that.
