Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about a possible return to management and his hopes for an “exciting project” to take on.
The 48-year-old former Dortmund boss was heavily linked with several clubs including Liverpool, before owners FSG gave their backing to Brendan Rodgers after the end-of-season review.
Klopp left Dortmund in the summer after a successful spell which brought two Bundesliga titles and a Champions league final and speculation has been rife about where he might renew his managerial career.
Speaking at the International Radio Exhibition (IFA) in Berlin – as quoted in Bild – Klopp is enjoying his break but is already thinking about a return to coaching.
Klopp said: “I’m really very relaxed – but only because I know that it goes some time. I’ll be back to train a team. “

And once again Klopp suggested he would prefer to take on a project suggested his destination would be “not an absolute top club, there are other good projects that are exciting who need help.”
And Klopp is still finding plenty of things to occupy his time: “I inform, read, meet a lot of people – there are ordinary little things that make great fun. I miss currently nothing. “
Klopp’s comments about the level of his next team echo those of his agent Marc Kosicke back in June when he said the Premier League was very exciting and added: “we do not only think about the top four because there are some other great clubs below them.
“It is always all about the challenge.
“He has the great ability to develop things. If he goes into a stadium, feels the energy and thinks that he can make a difference here, this could be more attractive to him than going with the big deals and aim for the treble.”
Wherever Klopp emerges, it will be a newly svelte version, as he appeared at a coaches' conference this week with a new trim figure attributed to regaining his love for sports.

I know it was leaked to the echo etc but FSG never actually publically backed Rogers after the review did they ?

Yes, they did.

Werner explained why neither he nor FSG’s president Mike Gordon felt compelled to swing the axe. ‘We take a long-term view on such matters,’ Werner said. ‘I think our track record demonstrates that our attitude and approach is very much focused on stability. We believe Brendan is the right man to take the club forward.’

We're not a top team, so hopefully hell come here.

After the succession of German press reports at the end of last season saying how much he'd want the LFC job, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the above is a direct reference to it.

I'd still prefer Ancelotti but - although there have been a couple of straws in the media wind suggesting otherwise - I doubt FSG will go that route.

Serious question. Does anyone think that Klopp would be a worse option than Brendan? I mean, the general refrain around here lately is that "we should only change manager if there is a better option available."
Well there is. And he's practically begging us to come get him.

Come on FSG you know it makes sense, approach the man and sack that piece of shit we currently have

Hell no. He seems like a cartoon version of Rodgers, done by those street artists who exaggerate your ''best'' features.

I dunno - My gut reaction is that he'll be a great fit. He loves the club. Get him in. I'm over Brodge. In truth I was over him after that stupid doco. Suarez made him look better. Without him he looks ok but not what we need.

I'm a massive Klopp fan. If the owners aren't speaking to him then we're really missing out on a great opportunity. He's well liked all around European football, would be a great fit, would get the fans all on board again, and most importantly, he'd breath some motivation and identity into this squad, which is a pretty decent squad of players.

I cant help but think if Klopp was interested in the job he would have it by now, Id be amazed if we hadnt sounded him out during the summer. Talk of sacking a manager 4 games into a season is laughable though. If he was the right man for the club 4 weeks ago then whats happened since? This however was the inevitable problem of persisting with Rodgers after the debacle of last season, his credibility is in tatters and after every bad result there are going to be more stories about the club talking to other managers or him having 3 games to turn it around.

Long term this is terrible for morale, the board need to come out and unequivocally back him for the remainder of the season or its death by a thousand cuts and he will be gone at Christmas while our bloated squad is stinking out midtable.

There were reports last summer suggesting that we did contact Klopp for preliminary discussions, but that things petered out when he said he wouldn't work with a transfer committee.

Do you think that it was a coincidence that Rodgers and FSG had the season review meeting a couple of days after Klopp announced that he would take a year long holiday? I don't. I believe that Rodgers would have been sacked if Klopp had been available. I also believe that Rodgers will be sacked as soon as Klopp agree to join us but it won't happen the next couple of months. FSG would look trigger happy if they sacked Rodgers before December. I believe that Klopp will join us in January.

I don't think it really matters when you sack someone.

If the owners genuinely believe Klopp is the man, and he's ready to step in you make the move now.

They did the same thing with the Red Sox two weeks ago. They hired arguably the best GM available and got rid of their GM who had overseen one great season and a few shit ones. (a bit like Rodgers)

They don't really care about football though do they though. Baseball is what their hearts are, at LFC they are all about "sweating the brand".

I dont think they give a shit about Baseball either

He's used to working under a DoF, is he not?

Fsg wanted a DoF from the start & only set up this stupid arse committee to appease Rodgers.

For them to stick with the committee & not employ a DoF with Klopp underneath him sounds like complete bullshit to me.

I think it matters, in the long run certainly. If a club gets a reputation for treating managers like dirt then they will find it harder to attract good managers unless they are offering massive wages like Chlesea/Madrid. That said FSG sacked Hodgson and then appointed Dalglish when that was very obviously a bad idea, when replacing him they interviewed Martinez and Rodgers so its not like they have a track record of seeking out the best managers available. They are aiming squarely for the middle, getting somebody like Klopp would be a massive step up from the frighteningly limited ambition they have shown so far in terms of managerial appointments. It may be because they believe the moneyball system makes a manager a secondary consideration but its not exactly been a startling success so far.

Sacking Hodgson was the greatest idea ever. Dalglish's appointment was only meant to be a temporary thing, except he did well so they continued with it. Probably because they couldn't find a suitable replacement at the time.

I agree. They can't afford one more bad choice. The next manager must be a success or else the fans will start to demand that FSG sell the club. They must start to show that they know how to run a football club like Liverpool FC. They are clever enough to know that so the next manager will be a top class one without any doubt at all.

They can get away with a few bad seasons at Red Sox because they won the world series. They haven't won a single trophy as our owners. Soon they will be seen as the new Ashley if they don't start to deliver.

The Dalglish appointment was all about PR and to please the fans. Carroll the same. FSG care a lot about PR. Rafa was available when FSG appointed Dalglish so a suitable replacement was available but they couldn't take the risk appointing him because a lot of fans at that time hadn't forgotten his last season.

Fans demand that FSG sell the club. How preposterous!

And really, haven't won a trophy?

FSG had a model which they required a young manager with new ideas. Rafa was unsuitable ergo unavailable.

The fans were absolutely right not to forget Rafa's last season, which is why he wasn't ever "a suitable replacement".

The fans have also not forgotten the two cowboys. FSG have made their share of mistakes but the fans aren't going to "demand that FSG sell the club" any time soon.
