Kirkland attacked by fan

I find it strange that so many people are making Kirkland the bad guy because he hit the ground after being assaulted by a thug. Suggestions that he should have hammered the guy are crazy.

Kirkland's reaction was a joke and calling it assault is a bit of an exaggeration. He effectively got pushed in the face - it wasn't really a slap and it certainly wasn't a punch.

That's not to say that the guy who did it isn't in the wrong and doesn't deserve his punishment but if you're going to hit the ground and wait for the medical team to come over and examine you after that you deserve to get ridiculed.
 
That's a bit harsh Keni. First the sheer surprise would have made some people have a heart tremor. Second, we don't know how hard or soft the slaps were, but for all we know they could have been strong enough, and third, one hand got him in the eye. I doubt any of us on here would have stayed like a statue. The unexpectedness of it in a noisy stadium really made it an alarming assault.
 
He was hit by a cowardly scumbag who ran in from behind him. I just watched the clip again. He was hit in the face by both the guys hands, and I'll defy anyone here who says they would have stood up if they were hit like that.

Suggestions that he should have fought back are just ludicrous. He didnt even see the guy until he was about to get hit
 
The element of surprise is important. Imagine if, say, Rael was staring at the screen, tap-tapping away, and suddenly, out of nowhere, an enormous, bloated, bloodied cow carcass landed slap bang on the top of his head. Aside from the sheer weight, the experience would surely cause Rael the most intense distress because one second he was completely in the zone explaining why someone else was an idiot and the next he had a flipping great COW on top of him. You're looking at years of therapy after that. Years of it. And yet I imagine some of you on here would just laugh. Bastards.
 
I haven't been punched in the face very often, not nearly as many times as I've deserved, and not for years and years.... but when I have been it's always been sudden and unexpected. The natural reaction hasn't been to play dead, which is something that is obviously drilled into Premier League footballers.

I once clipped Gareth Bale's wing mirror in Tesco car park and his entire SUV flipped in the air like it was on Dukes of Hazzard. Another time I squeezed past Ashley Young at the bar and the next thing they had the full Muamba crash team out. It's just how these stars operate.
 
The way Kirkland went down reminded me of Di canio's **push** and the referee went down like he was shot
 
If the exact same thing happened to Reina from a manc would the whole "went down to easy" argument still be the same?
I doubt it.
And rightly so,no matter which way you look at it it's an assault and I hope the chav cunt gets jailed for it.
 
I imagine most people would've at least stumbled, maybe even have fallen, but I doubt any non footballer would've stayed down like he did, that was just fucking stupid.

The Dutch FA did what any sensible FA would do and rescinded the red card. They also forced Ajax to a replay the fixture in an empty arena.
 
The guy should be banned for life. But common, if you saw that happen to your mate and he stayed down like that. You'd be forced to take the piss.
