Sky Sports understands that Liverpool have snapped up former Tottenham defender Kevin Stewart.
The 20-year-old has come through the ranks at White Hart Lane, and has skippered their youth sides.
He made his professional debut last season and has spent time on loan at Crewe Alexandra.
Tottenham decided not to offer him a professional deal, at which point Liverpool have made their move.
Stewart has signed a two-year deal with the Reds, and became a Liverpool player on July 1.

well i went to his wikipedia page and it currently states :

"
At 2pm on June 2nd 2014 Kevin received a phone call from Alexander Matthew "Alex" Inglethorpe who is the academy manager at LFC, and Kevin's former boss when Alex was at the Spurs academy. In the background of the phone conversation Kevin could hear what sounded like a party going on. Alex said 'Hey Kevin we are sending around a car to pick you up me oul mucker - grab your things son;you're coming to a proper f*cking club. Kevin could also hear Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool manager) in the back ground partying hard, and screams of 'F*CK YOU BARCA HA HA £80MILLION BIG ONES FOR OUR LITTLE TERRIER - pour me another glass of that champers' Kevin jumped into the waiting Taxi and joined the party at Liverpool Football club . Kevin can now be heard sing ' You're never gonna believe us we are gonna win the League. The lads seems happy."

i can imagine that's pretty much how it went down with the exception that brendan was on the buckfast not champers .

i am guessing that inglethorpe is the driving force behind this but are the odds not against a 20 yr old spurs "reject" making it here? sometimes i wonder if they sign players like this and keep some others in the U21s to make up the numbers and help others develop . Well ok they have to be of a decent standard but with lots of them you just know there is no way in hell they will get chances with the first team .

Perhaps it's a clever under the radar signing of a versatile defender?

yeah you never know do you but it's still a slightly surprising signing considering he's 20 . Though how great would it be if he turned out to be a first team player , piss them spurs fuckwits right off.

seems we have also signed a chilean keeper from them , Lawrence Vigouroux , who was apparently on trial here last season .

Stewart is a fullback, from what I can find. I assume it's a move to cover a position where our U-21s will be thin next season, assuming Robinson, Wisdom, McLaughlin and Smith are loaned out / sold / promoted. Randall (up from the U18s) will then be the only RB left, with Maguire (who isn't too good) at LB. I think Williams played a bit at LB or RB.

It's probably the same sort of move that saw Paez join the team last season. He doesn't look good enough, but with Sokolik going on loan, and Sama marginalized, we had only Jones left who was the regular CB. Perhaps a situation where whoever at U18 wasn't ready to move up a level or we wanted him to develop there further, and thus brought in someone as a filler. The two-year contract for Stewart would seem to suggest that.

[article=http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/sheff-utd/sheffield-united-stewart-set-to-snub-blades-1-6625302]Nigel Clough has expressed surprise at Kevin Stewart’s decision to turn his back on a move to Sheffield United despite revealing the Tottenham Hotspur defender is destined for a Premier League club instead, writes James Shield.

Clough, speaking after completing the signatures of Marc McNulty and Jamal Campbell-Ryce yesterday, suggested Stewart’s representatives had recommended their client moved to Bramall Lane.

But, confirming the 20-year-old appears set to ignore that advice, the United manager told The Star: “Kevin looks as if he’s going to go elsewhere, to another Premier League club, which is perfectly understandable.

“The funny thing is his agent probably thought it was best for him to come here to get that experience. Kevin is coming up to being 21 years old and has only played a handful of games.

“It might be the case that he’s going somewhere where he doesn’t play many more than that. But that’s the difference.”

Stewart, who spent a month on loan at Crewe Alexandra two seasons ago, sandwiched a trial at Liverpool in between two spells at United training complex towards the end of last term.

Clough, confirming that talks aimed at further strengthening a squad which finished seventh in the League One table are on-going, said: “We don’t want huge numbers and we’ve made no secret of the fact we prefer working with a smaller group. Plus, we want to see the youngsters continue to come through.”[/article]
