I'm going outside right now to hug the first Chinese person I meet.

I'm having a Chinese tonight can't wait to read what the fortune cookie says!'Golden opportunity will lift spirit'.

Welcome to Liverpool:

I'd love to know what Glock thinks of this.

He's too busy telling the Inter Milan fans what Rafa is planning for their club after having dinner with him and his family 😉

am concerned the yanks would rather see lfc damaged then sold to a super wealthy sovereign fund, is there anyway in which they can still retain a 5/10% stake in any CIC takeover as this would give them a profit incentive to deal with Huang as if the club do wel so will their share?

[quote author=Farkmaster link=topic=41235.msg1148428#msg1148428 date=1280966312]
If CIC do buy us, we'd probably see a significant investment in the club up front, debt taken onto the club for the purposes of a stadium, at a reasonable rate and term, given far lower risk, and then fairly modest investments in players over the course of the stadium build until increased revenue from commercial arrangements in China, and increased gate receipts came in.

And IF that happened, it'd be fucking fantastic, especially given where we've been for the last couple years.

From everything that I have witnessed during my time here in China I would say that the Chinese do not hold back once a decision is made, they plough money into their projects hand over fist ($42B Olympics,, $58B World Expo - to pick the two largest and most obvious examples) and then look for the returns, which may not necessarily be monetary - China is still on a wowing the world trip and Liverpool FC may be more about prestige & pedigree, success for the club would be seen as representative of success for China. BTW - this is all over the Chinese news here too.

I said this in the start of thread, and was shot down by Ross I think. The Times confirms what I've read on an another forum to be true.

As Gene so excellent pointed out, maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. But, I just know that even if the board favours this bid, the twist and turns aren't over yet. GG and TH will do anything to stop this, it's going to be another 8 days of nervewrecking fingernalibiting stuff.

I don't suppose there is an editorialising about whether it's a good move for China?

If this goes through, it'll be kinda weird to be owned by a government.

What did I shoot down ?

Is it the company law element of things which the newspapers are clueless about ?

I talked about the financial muscle behind Huangs bid, and you said here we go again. Doesn't matter anyway, the story got more legs when the TImes and Barrett reporeted it.

Imagine LFC owned by China.

Every LFC football match will be screened live to over a billion people

More than 500 million students will sing YNWA in mandarin

All the 100 million red army recruits will have the LFC crest.

All government offices will fly the red flag with LFC crest

Just imagine 😉

Honestly, this could be immense. Ross's comment about mugs the other day. Selling tens of millions of $4 mugs/ wallets/ torches/ duvet covers etc. etc. makes merchandising sounds pretty fucking profitable. And because the government own them I'd expect a serious clampdown on counterfeit goods, perhaps with the threat of torture- or it might even be considered treason so the death penalty is probably an option.

Ah yes Doc, during the Beijing Olympics, counterfeits souvenirs were really hard to get.

"According to the frontpage lead of The Times, 'The Chinese Government is the mystery backer behind a bid for Liverpool Football Club... The debt-laden club is expected to change hands this month and last night the Chinese appeared to be in pole position to win a three-way takeover battle. The other bidders are a wealthy Kuwaiti family and an American private equity group.'

Meanwhile, the backpage of the newspaper is dominated by the claim that 'Roy Hodgson will keep his job as Liverpool manager and be handed £150 million to spend on new players if the Chinese Government's bid to buy the club proves successful.'

We could get at least 35 GK's and 25 decent CB's with that!

I'm actually more prepared for nothing to happen Mike.

If ANYTHING happens I'll be over the moon.

It's a horrible thought that we could be owned by the Chinese government. It's horrible to think what clubs need to do to compete.

We could fucking get every single Scandanavian player here, given Roy's penchant for them.

Personally I find it a tad difficult to believe that the Chinese Government (mystery backer ha ha ha) would be so open about it's intentions before a formal bid has been made. Even less likely is a Times reporter has a source in the Chinese Government, although I'd be impressed if they did.
