This just gets worse and worse.

Nightmare scenario unfolding....

Well, I find myself alone here but...

...I'D WALK A MILLION MILES FOR ONE OF YOUR GOALS, OH KENNY, OH KENNY!

Comparing Dalglish taking over to the Souness debacle is a bit unfair to be honest.
The difference is Dalglish actually had a successful tenure as manager already. Souness however failed miserably.
I admit I'm also a bit worried about Dalglish taking over but I'm somehow exited as well.

Our fall from grace started with Kenny leaving, wouldn't it be great if he's the one that gets us back where we belong.
During his spell we played the best football in Europe, pass and move. Simple. Maybe we should get back to basics.
It might have started just a little bit before then

Quote from Wikipedia:

"Dalglish left Liverpool FC in 1991, with the club defending their title and still in contention for both the league title and the FA Cup."

So I'm guessing he left in the middle of the season with us at the top of the table. We won the league in the previous season.

Explain to me how our downfall started before he left?
kenny left an aging squad. souness tried to address this but imho tried to do too much too quickly, compare with how fergie eases out the aging players. giggs, neville and scholes are still there for petes sakes.

I agree.

And I've said all along that appointing Kenny sounds like a mad idea. If it does end up happening, I just hope we all get very lucky and it works somehow.

Well RAWK think it's a wonderful idea, with any dissenters being given a bit of a slap.
Personally, I think it would eventually turn into a disaster for both Kenny and the Club.
I think I agree, and quite honestly I'm surprised he'd set himself up for a fall like this. He doesn't need to do this, and he's bound to know that he's more likely to fail than succeed if he takes it on. Which would invariably sour how he's viewed within the club over time. People say it wouldn't, but look at Souness.
I don't think he'd be so open to it without some form of safety net, ie short-term, still looking for long-term solution, etc.. With the tag of 'caretaker' or whatever there will be less pressure, and then if it works well, great, if it doesn't then we can continue looking for a full-time manager.

Because the team needed rebuilding , it had got too old. they had all got too old together, The Everton cup game, were the final straw and he couldn't face sacking all his mates....just my theory btw, but one that others do subscribe to.

Kenny Dalglish’s last match as Liverpool manager saw Everton come from behind four times to force a 4-4 draw in a fifth round FA Cup tie in 1991. Tony Cottee was the Toffees’ saviour, Dalglish resigned the next day and Everton went on to win the replay 1-0.

I think the pressure got to him. I know people felt he used Hillsborough as an excuse, whatever. It was difficult for alot of players/staff involved so no one will really know the truth. As far as the story goes he just wanted to take time out and regretted his decision almost straight away.

The ageing team thing is always a fair point though.

I think it's a mistake, although an honest one on Kenny's part. If he does end up taking the job, we should all give him all the support we can. But I'd be much more comfortable with someone like Hodgson or Deschamps in the firing line, and Kenny on a pedestal somewhere behind them.

He can still persuade Gerrard and Torres to stay from his ambassadorial role.

Paul McCarthy (NOTW) has just said on the SSN Papers Review that Liverpool fans should not get too excited about Dalglish being manager because Hodgson is "nailed on".

Either you are the manager and you call the shots around or you are not. If Hodgson isnt a man that can pull the strings on his own, then he shouldnt be in there. To hire a manager who requires an amabassador or whatever you call it to hold is hand is certainly not the man we need.

It's not about pulling the strings, it's about having the influence to keep such players, which Kenny probably has over Roy, given his history with the club and the fact he already gets on with Stevie.

Wow I really hope Kenny doesn't take the job. He's doing fine where he is now.

As for Hodgson joining, well it's not a surprise isn't it? I really can't think of anyone better who is available and willing to join.

So to have him sit and watch the games, and also sometimes travlke on a preseason tour is enough for Stevie to want to play for Roy Hodgson? I dont believe that. Either you work with a man on day to day basis, or you dont have the influence. There will soon be time for Stevie and Kenny to sit together at Anfield as two legends and watching games. But to believe that ait is enough to have Kenny in the club somewhere should convince any player to play for Liverpool is very very optimistic at best.

It's got nothing to do with any of that Insig, the fact he's onboard and is pulling the strings in regards to helping steady a sinking ship, should be enough. No one's saying he will be shadowing Hodgson.

Uncle Woy's appointment will certainly mean that all of our top players will want to stay, and reap the benefits of the tactical genius who won the title with Malmo

You reckon?

When I had a quick gander on there last night it seemed to be full of conspiracies that Kenny had orchestrated Rafa's downfall because he had ulterior motives.

I dunno why I keep looking on there, morbid curiosity I guess

Have you looked at the "New Kit" thread ? (it's a sticky).

The latest page has poster after poster stating that, although they like the new away shirt, they won't be buying it etc..

To be fair, weren't Owen and Gerrard the ones rooting for Curbishley when Ged went? I'm guessing whether it's Uncle Roy or some foreign manager it'll have little bearing on whether they stay because short term at least, it's fairly obvious whatever we do we won't be winning the title.

I think at least Owen had mentioned Curbishley, maybe

But times have changed, when Houllier went, Benitez was the standout candidate

Now look at us

It's dismal, really

Not sure about Torres, but Gerrard might be off to have a taste of being league champion.

He's no longer a spring onion and probably won't sit around and wait for miracle to happen, unless we have a new owner before the world cup ends.
