Just read that Kenny is pushing for the Wilson deal to go through. Seems like he has been pulling the strings on said transfer.

Where did you read this?

It had been reported on the radio, and there was a bit about it in the Glasgow Evening Times.

This makes me fucking nervous.
I love kenny so much. But the game is not recognisable these days.
Hope he knows what he's doing.

Here:
http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/danny-wilson-move-on-despite-rafa-axe-1.1032783?

Liverpool’s pursuit of Danny Wilson will be unaffected by the departure of Rafa Benitez from Anfield.

The Reds have had two offers rejected by Rangers for their 18-year-old star asset, with the Ibrox club holding out for a package in excess of £4million.

Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish – who will now head the hunt for Benitez’s replacement – had been the driving force behind the move for Wilson in his role as the club’s academy ambassador and will continue to seek a resolution to take Wilson south.

What specifically is so different, Oncy?

Would love him back permanently.

He knows the club inside out and is a real throwback to the glory years.

Give him a season and see how he does. What's the worst that could happen?

Oncy, I can understand and would share a degree of concern, but why so very nervous? Not everything in the game has changed, the King's been back involved as Academy head for a while now and he'll have others with more recent experience around him, or available to call on, for advice if needed.

I think everyone will be pulling together anyway, the likes of Lee, Rush etc, it's not like it's a case of Kenny being alone in this. Ultimately the book will stop with him but he's got a good team behind him and a mix of modern techniques (like this new physio guy) and old school guys who know what it means to play for the club.

The first thing he would do is get the players playing for the badge again. He knows what it means to be a Liverpool player.

What's this shit about the game changing so much? It's still 11 v 11 and a plastic ball that needs to be kicked between the posts to score.

He's at Anfield every fucking week, it's not like he's been in the Amazon on some spiritual treck without human contact for 15 years.

Wilko-I wonder what he will make of millionaire kids in the game these days.
The worry is because he is such a legend. It would be like finding out your kid was a theif if it all went wrong.
But you guys are making me feel I'm just being daft.
All this positivity maybe we can't fail!

Long live the king!

he has always had a brilliant eye for players as well.

Not always....

I really liked Rafa however one of his main faults was falling out with so many players which is unacceptable. If the manager has spent club money on a player then he should, to all intents and purposes, be married to him. He should strive to get his players to reach their full potential, to reward them for good performances, to keep them motivated and focused and to stop differences of opinion developing into rifts which result in multi million pound club assets not being used just to prove a point.

I believe Kenny's man management to be excellent and perhaps he can resurrect the LFC careers of players that seemed to be finished at Liverpool. I also wonder if some of the starlets will finally progress with him at the helm.

Good post Wilko. I think he's already made some headway with the recent signings and his chasing of Wilson, he seems intent on building, which is the sensible thing in light of our finances.

i think you need a gambler's spirit to get on board, which i have. if it's goes to shit then i don't see what has been lost; no one will have any expectation of him. but if it goes well then it will be good fun. it's only the newcastle parallel which i find perturbing about it, but i'm up for rolling the dice in this situation.

i don't even know who that is.

Jimmy Carter anyone? Istvan Kozma? I wonder if the yanks will trust him with the paltry few pence we have got to spend this summer. And then when a new manager comes in 2 months, there will be no cash left for him to spend. Or her. Cheri Lunghi anyone?

Your point about more monied players is a good one however there is more to be excited about than to be concerned about in my opinion. Perhaps he can bring in a left back, a striker and replace Masher whilst promoting his pick of the youngsters to the first team set up. Imagine the difference in mood, attitude and energy when the players report back to Melwood for training sessions led by the legendary Dalglish. Imagine Anfield exploding when he leads his team out for the first home game of the season!

Steve McMahon, John Aldridge, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Robbie Fowler anyone?

Maybe, just maybe, he'll discover the next *gasp* John Barnes ?

Or, merely sign him.

I think he is just getting back at you for the Aquilani thread. 😉

Having said that I feel exactly the same way as you. Head says this is not a good decision. Heart aint playing along.

Obv.everyone at the club was devastated by Hillsborough but it really ripped the heart out of the King as manager at the time. He wasn't quite the same after that, and some of his later buys were dreadful - when he signed poor Nicky Tanner you had the extraordinary spectacle of our best ever player signing our worst ever player.

That said, this was all a very long time ago and besides, as others have pointed out, Kenny's transfer record overall was excellent. Getting him on board as caretaker removes a good deal of the pressure from him. It's precisely because no-one's expecting miracles that the great man can feel free to go out and produce one or two anyway. 8)
