Juan Mata

@MataStats: Juan Mata signed for Chelsea, two years ago today. Since then: CL, FA Cup, Europa Lg, CFC Player of the Year (x 2), 32 goals and 49 assists.

Freak.

That's unbelievable.

Surely you'd be nuts to sell a player like that and just insane to sell him to a rival.

Maureen will shunt at least one star out just because he can. It's his 'thing,' and the squad's so good he can get away with it.

On 2nd thought, the pool of clubs for top players seem small. In Spain, there's only RM and Barca who can afford him. If RM does bring in Bale and with Barca having already signed Neymar, their chances of making concrete move for him seems low.

In Italy, both Milan clubs have had financial issues in recent seasons while Juventus probably won't be able to afford him (Higuain's agent-brother mentioned previously "Gonzalo is too expensive for them"). Napoli have spent majority of the Cavani cash too.

The only team in Germany that might be in for him would probably be BM, since Dortmund already splashed on Mkhitaryan.

This could mean he might yet end up moving to a EPL club.

“I keep saying we have six teams [in the running],” said Mourinho, 50, speaking at a news conference.

“I keep saying that Manchester United are the current champions and they have a fantastic team. Manchester City have an unbelievable squad and I keep saying for me Tottenham Hotspur have an amazing squad, too.”

However, Mourinho does feel that Brendan Rogers’ Liverpool may fall short because they cannot match the other sides financially in the transfer market.

Liverpool, though, have brought in five new players as they seek a return to Champions League football after failing to qualify for the elite competition since 2010.

Liverpool has the history, the manager, the players but I don’t think Brendan has enough finances to make a big improvement to his squad,” Mourinho added.

He also feels Arsenal are genuine title contenders despite their faltering start to the domestic campaign, which saw Aston Villa beat them 3-1 at the Emirates last weekend.

Arsenal are probably a much better team that the media think after the result against Aston Villa. They are good,” he continued.

For me, six teams are in there and maybe after this weekend some other teams will lose points.

It's a typical self loathing style gamble from Mourinho.
He knows he has a squad very capable of winning the league so he's making what looks like a risky move by letting Mata go.
Then if they do win the league, all the British journalists and Sky lapdogs will cream over what a genius move it was by him.
He's a grade A fucking spoofer.

"But that old-fashioned mentality of, 'I don't sell players to clubs in the same country' - I think doesn't help.

"Sometimes you push players abroad when you should be keeping them in your league because then you are contributing to making your league the best league.

"You see in Italy it happens every season without any problems. Filippo Inzaghi played for Juventus, Milan. From the big players, only Francesco Totti stayed for life. Andrea Pirlo - Inter, Milan, Juventus."
It has been suggested that Mata could be a makeweight in the deal for Rooney and Mourinho on Friday insisted the Spain playmaker was not for sale

"That's hypothetical, because they didn't ask," Mourinho responded when asked about what would happen if United wanted Mata.

"The two answers we got from Man United is 'we don't accept the bid', 'we're not interested in selling the player'.

"That's the only official contact we had with Man United. Till Monday, we have nothing more to add to it."

Mourinho also cited his own example of selling William Gallas to Arsenal during his first spell as Chelsea manager as a reason why United should not be afraid of letting Rooney move to west London.

He continued: "Players are sometimes unhappy because they want new contracts and at other times they are unhappy because they want to leave and that is a different situation.

"Other times it's because they really want to go. I was so sad about William Gallas. He was fundamental for us when we won titles.

"He said he wants, he wants, he wants and we couldn't stop him, so we decided not to stop him.

"As you know, in this club it wasn't an economical problem, it was just the player wanted to go. Ricardo Carvalho and John Terry were playing central defence all the time and he wanted to be first choice.

"He was playing many matches in a position that wasn't his best position, he was playing left-back and sometimes Wayne Bridge was playing, so he wasn't happy. So we thought it was a fair situation to sell him in the end.

"I had no trouble selling him to a rival. It happens all the time in Europe."

I wish we had a spoofer in charge who could win titles.
By the by I'd spend 50m on Mata I think he's that good and transform us

Just offer Mourinho whatever money we have in the budget ... He may say yes ... Player probably won't, but just give it a go ...

Suarez - sturridge - mata - coutinho

Can't see him to us happening at all. No european football here and its a world cup year. Tbh I can't believe Maureen has cast him aside. He's a top top player.

He's had European footy the last two years and barely gets a peep into the Spanish squad ... He just needs to play week in, week out to get into the squad ... European footy is for his ambitions - so yes, I don't think he'd pick us if he had options ... But if we're the only team that tables an offer? Maybe ...

Better to hope ... it's worked for me this season so far, despite all the miserable gits predicting our doom.

It would me a massive move for us to pull off but just can't really see it ever getting off the ground. I can't imagine us being the only team to table an offer should the opportunity arise either, imho I think champions league football will be a must for him and if he leaves he should get that no problem, maureen not playing him is bizarre to me.

Although we've fallen away since he was in England Maureen will remember Liverpool as one of Chelsea's fiercest rivals, and the fact that we're currently not as competitive is something he should be keen to prolong if he has any sense. Providing us with a forward unit of Mata, Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho would be fairly unadvisable for Chelsea.
Mourinho may see us as rivals but he won't have any problems selling to us provided the fee is right. His arrogance and ego will make him believe that he can win regardless. Its hard to argue with his track record.
