Johnson was stranded 1st half when Henderson went walkabout, and 2nd half he marginally improved though he still had little or no willingness to attack.
Absolutely 100% untrue.

Glen Johnson spent exactly 40% of his time in the opposition's half in the second 45 minutes against Swansea.

I'd sell him because we can use that money to improve where we need to more (That RW we've been craving) and if we need add a cheap RB option to cover Kelly that shouldn't be to hard (come on Commolli, some young French dynamo).

It doesn't help his cause that he is a shit defender who has had the hardest time staying healthy. He was a huge waste of money when we bought him, I understand the money situation at the time with pompey but here were many better bets on that team. Hell we could have gotten Kevin Prince Boateng if we had good enough scouts. He did well for us at times but with the emergence of Kelly and the fact he not a good defender; sell.

Johnson is being desperately under rated by a number on this site. He's fast becoming the new Lucas for no apparent reason. His defending is not world class but it's not woeful and his attack is far better than most give him credit for. He finds space up forward better than many and makes some excellent runs. He's not in fashion at this point for some reason but selling him to Madrid would be pointless for us.
Agree with all of that, hes a much better player than some people give him credit for. For whatever reason he isnt well liked at Liverpool and if Kenny is intent on playing Kellly ahead of him then we cant really turn down a good fee that could improve the side

Kelly is a better player than him. How is KD intent on playing Kelly in favour of him though given he's started each game since returning to fitness ?

to be fair to kenny the defense he has selected for the last three games (when johnson returned to action) has kept 2 clean sheets. probably despite johnson but it is what it is.

I said "if" kenny intends to give Kelly his spot when fully fit then its best to move him on for a decent fee, Id rather keep him as I think hes still the better player but he is getting to a point in his career where his value will diminish rapidly

I don't agree. Not yet anyway.

I dont think there is much between them. Kelly is a better defender, Johnson a better attacker. Both injury prone.

His assesment of the two of them is still correct, whatever the non-contextual manner in which either of you try to quote him.

He's been learning spanish for a while now........
If only he'd learn defending.
Playing for Real in the Spanish League means he probably wouldn't need this attribute most weeks.
In which case I wish he'd re-learn how to go forward. He seems to have managed to erase both elements from his game since his injury.
Apart from that time he nearly won us the game yesterday.
Yes. Apart from that time. In his first season he was bombing up the wing and looking dangerous. More often than not these days he gets the ball and passes it and doesn't look that keen to get it back. But, yes, there was that time. Not the strongest case for the defence - or the attack!

Personally I'd like Johnson to stay. Class act when on form.
When being once in a blue-moon. He's not been anywhere near good enough since he signed.

£18 million down the drain.
It would be an idiotic move to sell johnson.
Why?

There's many good, valid reasons for selling him:

- he's poor defensively
- he's injury prone
- he's not at the age where he has room to improve(much)
- we have Martin Kelly

I'd happily take 8-10 million for Johnson.

I wouldn't. His defensive problems are often exaggerated, on here as well as in the media; he'd have to have spent a lot more time out with injury in his career to deserve being called "injury-prone"; 27 is no age whatsoever for a defender; and £8-10 mill.would be daylight robbery.

Apart from that, spot on.

Likewise, i reckon his attacking capabilities are often exaggerated. Yes, injury prone, he's missed a lot of games, then when he returns he usually takes weeks to return to any sort of form.

Not saying 27 is old for a footballer whatsoever, and i hate when people seem to think a player's career is over if they're not 25 or under, it's madness. However at 27, you'd usually have a clear idea of a player's abilities, it's not like he's a youngster and can iron out any defensive deficiencies in his game, he's an established International with 10 years experience of Premier League football under his belt.

£8-10 million would be a good deal for us, and would allow us to bring in a right back who can defend. There's a big question mark over Kelly's injury record and fitness as well which is obviously a worry.

Selling one our better players is never a good idea, especially in the one of the areas we have genuine competition.

Same sort arguments were used about raul and look where that got us.

I don't think Johnson's all that but he's a good player. Shouldn't we be trying to build up a squad with competition for places rather than always selling one of our options? When (WHEN) Kelly gets injured, it means we're looking at the Youth team again (no offence to Flano, who has done well when asked).

I think Johnson is a good player, but I seem to recall he is on top dollar, and I suspect having a player on huge money, who doesn't always get picked is starting to cause our owners concern.

By the same token, I think Maxi will be off as Xmas as well. He is on similarly huge money and has played about 13mins of league footie this season, whilst we try and bed Downing & Henderson in. It's bordering on criminal really, given our problems in front of goal.

Well said, it's a complete disgrace that Maxi hasn't been played more this season. He's a skillful, goalscoring midfielder yet he's been frozen out all season, don't get it.
Especially when Downing's been shit in the last 5 or 6 games, and Henderson is so clearly not a right a winger.
- He deserves to be cut some slack because he's a 21 year playing out of position, Downing on the other hand, has no excuses.
