Before anyone reads too much into this 'critical care' stuff, more or less everyone who undergoes neurosurgery will be kept an eye on extremly closely in the days following the op. After a few days his condition, if the op has been successful, will be changed.

I expect Nessie knows more about this than me, but they'll need to keep an eye open for internal bleeding. Intercranial pressure is delicately balanced and if just a small bleed occurs it can lead to serious consequences.
