So we've banked 11m for Casper and Insua

I suppose that covers off the first three years of Cole's contract

Will we actually be paying any transfer fees for any players?
Right so thatll be 11m plus their wages over the four years, Casps say 70k *52 *4 = 14.5m, Insua, 25k * 52 * 4 = 5.2m, total approx 20m, now JUST THAT COVERS JOES WHOLE DEAL, NEXT (oh, and wipe the drible)

Perhaps, but it is worth pointing out that, despite signing about 27 wide players in six years for a combined cost of over £60m (I'm guessing), Rafa never bought ANYONE of Cole's quality. Hodgson/Purslow/Satan/whoever has now made ONE signing, for £0.00 in transfer fees, and got a multiple league-winning England international at the peak of his career.

Time will tell if Joe will be a sucess at Liverpool, but for me that's definitely progress.

We have no idea whether this is the peak of Joe Cole's career. His best years may well be behind him.

Also, as I recall, Rafa started pretty well. Including buying a very dynamic, productive wide player. This is a hell of a start:

I think everyone is fooling themselves if they think we'll move forward significantly this summer. We don't have the money to do so. The crucial thing is how we'll replace Mascherano. A poor decision there and Cole, Torres, Gerrard and whoever else we buy, will not be seeing much of the ball.

Also, Cole says he wants to play centrally. Isn't that where Gerrard and Aquilani operate? I'm very intrigued to see how we set up.
I would do anything to see that guy on the right back at the club. Anything.

"I want to play in a more central position and I want a manager who has faith in me." BBC

So i'm expecting Mascher to leave and for us to line up as

Reina

Johnson Carra Agger NewLB

Gerrard Aquilani

Kuyt Cole Maxi

Torres
We'd get raped playing that. Cole won't tackle, Aquilani won't tackle, Gerrard isn't anywhere near the destructive player he used to be. We'd be unbelievably soft through the middle.

I don't get it, that formation wouldn't have helped last year if you put Yossi in Cole's place, so why would it work now. We had trouble gaining the oppositions half, and we were suspect defensively. We need to address that balance.
Gerrard is a fantastic tackler. Our defensive fragilities last season were down to Johnson/Aurelio's frequent injuries and Insua's wankness. This led to a lack of consistency in our defensive lineup and as a result we leaked unnecessary goals.

Cole wants to play in the middle. Gerrard wants to play in the middle. Aquilani wants to play in the middle. All 3 of them must be guaranteed starters. Therefore I feel that formation accommodates them all in the best possible way. A solid left back and we'd be laughing..

What alternative do you suggest?

Jimmy - Gerrard is not and never will be a DM. He doesn't have the discipline to stay where he's supposed to, it's nothing to do with his tacking ability.

Why is Cec.il being changed to Purslow?

It's very petty, or is this site now the polar opposite of RAWK?
I don't call him C.ecil, but it's insane to make this sort of policy, it's like changing any reference to him as Purslow to cunt to show an editorial bias.

It's precisely the sort of stupid thing that RAWK would do.

Theres no guarantee Hodgson will play Rafas old system, so Gerrard could find himself back in the centre!
Absolutely - but not DM.
It's not 'editorial policy' so climb down you moany Jeb.

putting gerrard in the postion of holding midfielder is insane, you are taking the greatest attacking threat at liverpool (including torres as gerrard can create as well as score) and completely blunting that attacking force. to what end? so aqualini can be 'let off the leash'?
