Thinks he owns the place

According to the Echo he'll be out for 10 days and miss 3 games.

Some will say meh, but I think his last two games have been encouraging. Shame he'll miss the game against Chelsea as he was bound to get the winner.

I'm dreading Roy's approach now for the Chelsea game, as it's a possiblity that he'll push Meireles wide again and recall Poulsen. Please for the love of God, don't.

"The Times" this morning suggests there's still a slight hope Cole might be fit for the Chelsea game after all. Even having him on the bench would be worthwhile.

Agree about Meireles. Early in his career he played LB, so he has *some* experience of playing wide, but he belongs in the middle alongside Gerrard.

Can't see us winning no matter what we do, so if it generates a (morbid) laugh why not.

Throw Dirk on the left if he's fit.

We need him for this one.

Roy Hodgson has revealed the mental torment that has undermined star summer signing Joe Cole’s early Anfield career.

The Liverpool boss admitted that his England international midfielder is far from the easy-going, confident character his image on the pitch presents.

Instead, Cole is wracked with doubt when things don’t go well, and he has suffered badly from almost continual misfortune since arriving on Merseyside, with his form damaged by injury and suspension.

But Hodgson believes that tonight’s Europa League game in Bucharest can provide the former Chelsea star - who was widely recognised as the biggest signing of the summer - with the launch pad for lift off.

“Joe isn’t a naturally confident character. He suffers when things are not going his way, and it has affected him,†Hodgson said.

“Everyone at the club has worked hard to make sure he doesn’t take it too hard and take too much on himself, because he’s quite happy to take responsibility.

“Sometimes those players can take too much on themselves and push themselves even further down. Everyone at the club, but in particular the senior players and his England colleagues here, have done a great job helping him.

“The coaching staff have tried to encourage him, saying ‘don’t worry Joe it will come right.’ Hopefully that will strt tomorrow night.â€

So his manager portraying him as an emotional wreck who needs to be coddled by those around him should boost that fragile ego

Budgie must be hoping Cole starts to come good, because he really hasn't done anything so far, and with Gerrard missing, we have no other quality creative players.

As for him not being naturally confident, he's certainly always seemed to play better with an arm round him, so to speak.

Whatever, we need to see him playing at his best, right now.

Yeah, I had the same thought. Hodgson is not exactly tactful is he?

As Brendan says, though, we could really do with seeing the Joe Cole who played (and scored) so often against us for Chelsea.

I'm sure Joe is delighted his boss is making him seem a basketcase around the globe. How much longer do we have to suffer this fool of a manager.

If we play like we did against Spurs with Joe Cole in the team it'll suit him much better and we might see the best of him.

It's ridiculous that people have jumped on that comment from Hodgson, all he's doing is defending the player and admitting that he's beat himself up over his performances, from the otherside of the coin it could be a ploy to gather sympathy and support for the player in a bid to boost his confidence when out there on the pitch. But no..

Liverpool coach Roy Hodgson has revealed that impotence has had a big impact on Ryan Babel's performances for the reds this year

The Liverpool boss admitted that his Dutch internationl winger is struggling to summon an erection and perform in the bedroom and that this has affected his performance on the pitch.

Instead, Babel is wracked with doubt when another romantic encounter ends badly, with his form also damaged by injury and suspension.

But Hodgson believes that going out clubbing after tonight’s Europa League game in Bucharest can provide the former Ajax star with the launch pad for lift off.

“Ryan isn’t a very physical or sensual person. He suffers when he can't get an erection, and it has affected him,†Hodgson said.

“Everyone at the club has worked hard to make sure he doesn’t take it too hard and take too much on himself, because he’s quite happy to take responsibility.

Mark, Roy is NOT "defending" Joe Cole. For one thing nobody's attacked Cole, and for another Roy's now blabbing to the world that he's emotionally fragile. If he's going to say such things at all he should keep them strictly in-house. He's a PR disaster area and sorry, but it's in no way unfair for people to point that out.

Yes, cheeky bugger..... About Joe Cole and his confidence. Why even bring it up or answer a question with that type of response. The man is a PR disaster.

I hate Budgie, but I don't think this is really anything to beat him up about.

It's fine, I think anyway.

Didn't work though. Joke was awful again.

I really don't see the harm in a manager saying someone has been poor. If private words don't work, public ones might

Well he should probably pull his finger out then and act like the World Class talent he's supposed to be.

Quite. I'm not sure sure what he expected to do better in that last 15 mins, gievn he was so shit. That said, he's unlikely to play vs Villa so we ought play him into form when possible.

I can't help but feel he should of just joined Spurs.

I bet he's starting to think it too.

I just think he's one of those players who's technically brilliant but doesn't really have a set position in a 'team' and is difficult to incorporate.

He's not even that technically brilliant, not in the sense of it being productive in any way, he's just decent and has the English modifier and has been "a breath of fresh air" in skill-bankrupt teams.

Maybe they'll do a swap for Van der Vaart? Or maybe not...

Joe Cole has had a fucking nightmare start to his Liverpool career. But he's a great player, no doubt about that. He'll come good.

He would have been much better under a more attacking minded manager, so let's hope we get one soon.

Either way, we seem to have started playing some good football of late, and Cole will find that much easier to adapt to when he returns to the first team.

You can't judge him by the performance yesterday though, as our team was cemented around our own penalty box and didn't string 2 passes together. Not easy being an attacking midfielder under those conditions.

He has done literally nothing during his career that could put him in any sort of "great" classification.
