[article=Mirror ]Liverpool are ready to rescue James Milner from his Manchester City misery – as Kop boss Brendan Rodgers prepares to take his summer spending through the £100million barrier, write Tom Hopkinson and Neil Moxley in the Sunday People.
Rodgers, who is set to add QPR's France striker Loic Remy to his list of summer purchases, has made tentative inquires about City outcast Milner – and been encouraged by the response.
Champions City are ready to dangle a new four-year deal, but Milner is fed up being a bit-part player after just 11 Premier League starts last season.
Everton and Arsenal are also in the hunt for the midfielder, and his old club Aston Villa are keen, but the Kop club are favourites should the 28-year-old decide to quit the Etihad bench.
The pursuit of the England man shows Rodgers’ intent to turn Liverpool into regular title challengers, despite departure of Luis Suarez.
The Kop chief has activated an £8.5m release clause in 27-year-old Remy’s QPR contract and the player – who spent last season on loan at Newcastle – will tomorrow fly to the USA where Liverpool are on their pre-season tour.
Southampton defender Dejan Lovren is set to switch to Anfield in a £20m deal as soon as new Saints boss Ronald Koeman can find a replacement.
And Rodgers also has his sights on Fiorentina keeper Neto, after talks over Swansea stopper Michel Vorm collapsed.
Neto has a year left on his contract and would provide stiff competition for Simon Mignolet, whose performances dipped towards the end of last season.[/article]

Would be perfect for a Rodgers midfield.

Depends a lot on price and wages.

Seems unlikely City would sanction the move, too.

I would, the only issue is we have loads of numbers in midfield and he wants assurances he'll play.

Welcome James, here's the bench.

Yeah, not sure I understand. He wants to leave City because he is not guaranteed a spot in the first 11, but he is willing to take a paycut and go to another team where he is not guaranteed a starting spot.

James Milner would/should walk into the liverpool starting XI .you lot are smoking crack

Milner would be way more than a bit part player here, he's fucking quality & would fit into our side perfectly.

Disagree completely modo

He's quick, skilful, incredibly hardworking , he would be like a new and improved dirk for us.

I'd take Milner over everyone we've signed thus far this summer

Milner's a good option to have, but he's not worth what we'll have to pay him when there are other options.

He's a very good player. He's not really what I'd call quick and skillful though. If we signed him I think it means we can forget about your Isco and your Reus.

He is an allright player who's main strengths are his versatility and work rate, if we sign him i bet he will be seen as deadwood in 2 years and we will be trying to shift him on to the likes of Stoke/Villa at a loss, can see this one a mile off.

Good player, good signing at the right price (say £10m).

He's not the plodder people think. Remember the impact he had against us when he came on? And I think he might well get in our side too.

Not a priority though. I wouldn't want to miss out on others to sign him.

I'm not saying that he's not useful. I think he's pretty good. Miles better than Downing, the problem is, what does he offer us that no one else in the squad does? Also, I think we should be focusing on finding a replacement for Suarez. This replacing him with 5 players nonsense is doing my head in.

A while back I said that the one player (of those likely to be available) that I'd take is Milner. I think it was towards the end of the season when we were missing Henderson quite badly. Milner would've helped a lot in that regard.

Since then we've signed Can however and it seems that he's someone that can grow into our midfield so I don't really see the point in signing Milner anymore.

We've signed our promising youngsters and our value for money squad players... if we're going to be spending top whack from now, it needs to be on someone who is a genuine step up in class and as much as I rate the guy, Milner isn't that.

i think milner is underrated by a lot of people, a while ago i said he'd be a good signing, but you know what he can fuck off, i dont want that fucking boring downing type signing at this club, for fuck sake i need some excitement, if we get milner and city or anybody get isco im just gona fuck off for a while

i need to change this pic, its all i get now!

seriously though, milner couldnt excite me with an ounce of viagra and a go on his missus

I think this is the crux point really, I like him and think he'd be a perfect fit for us, but we're overloaded with players that can do the same. We've got better natural wide men and a younger variation of him in Henderson. If it meant him coming in and us shipping out players like Suso, then it's a bit too short-term in it's thinking. I do think we have to replace Suarez with a "couple" of players though, Markovic might well be one, but hopefully we can pick up a player of similar ilk upfront.
