International break - Oct

You can point the finger at Southgate for many things, not trying Trent out at left back probably isn’t one of them mind….especially when you club manager is picking a 35 year old midfielder to fill in that position.

The guy didn’t even fancy him to play in his natural position, how would it suddenly have come into his thinking to try him on the opposite side?

Trent often swaps with Robbo while in play.
So manager of England for 8yrs struggles with perm LB while having riches on Right side. So why not for one meaningless in that time try out Trent? It’s basics and even a junior football would have tried at u11 level. Not sure why you are on about 35yr old playing LB, why would he put him there when Trent plays at his favoured position for LFC. It’s not the same thing is it?

Course he did. he is capable of playing it in his sleep. Although he was asleep for one of their chances but rest of his play I heard was creative.

Not really.

When it happens its really not a proper tactical switch, They defend opposite posts for corners and, as a result, sometimes end up on opposite sides if open play continues, but they swap back at the earliest opportunity.

That is CRITICAL for understanding the transfer market. International play and performance is very, very critical to how players are priced. And there is a whole lot of overpricing going on. And wherever there is overpricing there is underpricing, and in proportional measure.
TAA is actually a great example of that. The club that has the most information about TAA is Liverpool. And the Liverpool Football Club does not value him enough to get his contract renewed even though he is 25 years old. The club has been avoiding that. That is because of the information the club has about TAA. Yet, because he is a local, English player that has been enjoying a whole lot of hype for a whole lot of reasons, he plays for the national team so that his agent can even talk him up to join a club like Real Madrid. National teams in all sorts of countries are full of situations like that. And for every such overpriced and overhyped player there is some player that is underpriced and underhyped. That's where the value is. But those players are not easy to uncover. Moneyball.

Same thing, they often inter change for temporary periods.
It’s not far fetching for right footed players to play LB whole game.
Some best LBs are right footed, I believe Maldini was. Alves did play a few games LB at times too.

Van de Ven is completely shite.

What a calamitous fuck up that is.

Gonna get away with this, lucky boy.

Debut goal for Leweling ruled out.

They have 47 year old Dzeko up front.

Fenerbahce is not exactly Scunthorpe United. Anyway, we’re talking about Szobo here. He’s probably the biggest case of disrepancy between national team and club football in the game right now, totally different player.

He's the focal point of the Hungary team. Also international football is a whole lot different to league football. Some players just look better playing for their national teams because the football is slower and tactics more basic.

Yeah, I get all this and you’re absolutely right. But still I can’t quite accept it. Szobo has been playing #10 for us since Slot arrived; how much more “focal pointy” can you possibly get? At least with Klopp you could sort of point the finger at the manager to say he shoehorned him into a workhorse midfielder type - with Slot he regularly gets chances to affect the game offensively and rarely does.

And then he goes to his national team and turns into Zidane. An enigma of a player.
