I am watching this goals comp from Sami Hyppia on LFC and i'll tell you what, he was a great goalscorer. It got me thinking, how many players have we had who maybe could have been class in a different position.
Hyppia was such an accomplished goalscorer that I have to think that if he was a striker he would have got a shitload of goals. H scored some fucking peachy strikes.

He played in midfield a bit in his early days, he was always an accomplished footballer and a big threat for us from setpieces (especially when we had Gary Mac).

I'd have loved to have seen Heggem stay fit and be given a stint as a winger.

Yes, though I know loads of people disagree because no one's ever really bothered to try him there.

I think Hyypia would have been to slow to be a striker in todays football.
Agger in midfield maybe as a defensive midfielder. He'd be able to do more of those famous runs and he's got a sweet left foot.

Too slow? There were lots of brilliant strikers that weren't exactly sprinters.

Batistuta, Fowler, Vieri, Shearer for example.

That finish against Juve, THAT FINNISH AGAINST JUVE!!

It was fucking awesome one of those goals which always sticks in your mind, fantastic player and was a good captain for us to.
Agger in midfield I've said that for years

Can stevie G be converted to a central defender? Is it too late in his career, will that be an improvement on what we have? I actually think him playing in defence would suit the current system by BR.

I've banged on about this for years & years.

Fergie managed it with Keane cos I don't see why it can't be done, but against top class strikers the legs it would take would probably be too much for him now.

maybe against top class strikers it could be a bit much, although I can see stevie rising to the challenge. a move to the back would enable him to play at top level without the physical demands of the modern midfield.

If Sami played as a striker he would probably be a better version of cartsen jancker, which to be fair is not the best compliment in the world.

30 year old Fowler was slow.

20 year old "world class" Fowler was pretty quick.

I really intended to show you that speed isn't exactly the most important thing a striker needs and began to write a post you couldn't argue with.

But then I realized it's you. So...I gave up.

You are right, I am wrong.

Well I'm not alone so....

What, so you are right because someone pointed out Hyypia was even slower than other slow strikers?

As I said, arguing with you is pointless.
Yeah well saying that Fowler was slow shows how much you know about anything.

It's all a bit relative, Fowler was never pacy, he was quick like Rooney is, it wasn't what he relied on to be a good striker, though losing a bit of mobility did hamper him in the end.

I think it was pretty obvious the point that was being made, too bad it was ruined by a pedant.

No it was ruined by calling Fowler slow.
And I have the opinion that Hyypia was too slow and immobile to be a striker. But since this forum is about having one opinion I guess Im wrong then.

Is there any reason for acting like such a childish uppity cunt.

You think Hyppias too slow to be a stiker?

Fine. Why act the fucking mong.
