If we don't win the title this season...

… how would you feel? I think we have probably less than 30% chance of winning at this point, considering that we are competing against 2 teams who are both ahead of us on points (or potential points) AND have deeper squads with players who are more experienced at title fights. So think about it - yes, we have a chance, but there is a more than 70% chance that we won't win the title. How would not winning after coming so close make you feel?

Devastated, disappointed, angry? Will you be thinking ruefully about a couple of games where we lost points where we shouldn't? Or hopeful for the future with the squad and manager than we have? Or even celebrating coming 2nd or 3rd when not even the biggest optimists among us could have envisaged it at the start of the season?

I personally would come down more on the optimistic side. Really looking forward to Champions League returning to Anfield once again. And hoping Gerrard can play for a few more seasons and have another crack at it.

Disappointed, initially, but optimistic overall. We really can't complain.

My only thing is there's no chance the League will be as weak next year.

Hard to say. I mean if it happens this weekend, I guess I'll be content with a top 4 place.
If we lose the title by one point on the last day of the season it'll break my heart but obviously I'll still be happy about the team being back in the CL.
I've tried to ignore the whole title race thing for a long time but I can't help looking at the table and following Chelsea and City games in hope that they'll drop points. It's been somewhat of an ordeal but in some ways I'm glad to be going through it because it means that the team finally are where they're supposed to be.

Proud. Never expected it.

Thanks for the dream and the entertainment. Specially at the demolishing of MU.

I'll be disappointed results against shite like Hull and Villa may have cost us the title but we've done brilliantly well whatever happens. Sort the defence out and next season we'll be even more of a threat.

Depends how close we actually take it as to how disappointed I would be. If we blow it in the last couple of games I'd be devastated. If we were to lose a couple over the next few weeks and actually be holding on to third/fourth I'd be really disappointed too.
I sort of agree with C/O, that while I am delighted with this season and have loved all the excitement, coming so close with a youngish squad doesn't necessarily mean better things next year. Other teams will strengthen heavily.
While we have no right really to expect to win it this year, it may represent our best chance, and not achieving it would be a blow in that respect as well.
Almost feels like the 2005 Champions League, and I'm just hoping for the dream to survive another week. I don't really care about City and Chelsea results at the moment - I just want Liverpool to win and stay in the race.

Gutted but the silver lining will be CL football again.

It's just nice knowing with each passing game we can still win the league without sounded deluded.

Really hope Arsenal beat/draw with city this weekend, that would put the title in our hands.

Whatever happens its been the most enjoyable season to watch us in the league for 24 years

I'm only just allowing myself to start to believe that we've got a decent chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

As long as we finish in the top four i'll be made up.

Its like - "How would you feel if The Lying Rag didn't rise tomorrow morning???"

At the risk of stealing dantes thunder (dantes thunder sounds like a bad thriller novel), The Lying Rag doesn't rise.

The earth spins, making it appear to rise. So if The Lying Rag didn't 'rise', it would be cos the world had stopped spinning, & you wouldn't feel anything cos we would all be dead.

I'd be disappointed but damn proud, finishing 3rd/4th would be great considering the fight from the beginning of the season with the likes of spurs and there 100 million spending spree.like said above this would be the best chance we'll get in many a year, having said that making the champions league will attract bigger fish making us stronger than this season. The game I look back on is the citeh game where we should of got something out of that. Cementing champions league and I'd be ecstatic.

Imagine that today could be the last day that the title is out of our hands.
If city drop points at arsenal today the title will be completely in our hands.

How fucking awesomely scary will that be

You've been following Dantes too closely. You're in too deep, man. Take a break, go somewhere with the wife & kids. For goodness sake, think of the children!

Amen, I tell you, before this day is over the title will be in our own hands again.

Arsenal will beat City.

Hopefully. We need yaya to have his bad game now please. He usually has three/four excellent games followed by a very poor one, so hopefully this is it today.

We also need Arsenal to Tey to get fourth so Arsene's last season isn't remembered for the wrong reasons, you'd hope they're not that useless that they can't raise their game for that.

City will beat Arsenal.

I'm mostly proud of our season and going from 7th to potentially 3rd is a great achivement.
Think I'll be a bit disapointed if its entirely up to us and we miss out.
Now its Citys to lose but if that changes and we can win the title not being dependant on anyone else, well then I think a bit of disapointment will be there. But it wont last long as the thought of CL footy and attracting even better players will turn us into title candidates every year.

How can we be disappointed whilst it is is physically out of our hands? I'd things change and we legitimately become league leaders only to not win it then yes, I would be gutted. If we don't win it from here, im just impressed with the improvement.

Can't see Arsenal winning; hard to imagine they'll even get a draw, the surrendering pricks. It will be totally Wenger-like to go into this game accepting the blame for the Chelsea debacle, and then fielding an all-out attacking team with no steel in the middle. Boom - Nasri scores. Boom boom - Silva scores. Boom Boom Boom - Toure scores. 3-0 at half time and the Emirates serenade their team with a chorus of boos. Again. And then they come out and get deep-sixed once more.

I'll be hoping for a point shared though. 2 points dropped for City is good enough for us, and we also don't want Arsenal to feel encouraged with 3 points - their ending stretch of games is pretty easy and we know what flat track bullies they are.

I strangely have more confidence in Palace upsetting Chelsea and earning Mourinho's scorn by nicking a late winner in a West Ham-like show of defiance, except with an even better result. Com'on Pulis. Park the effing bus and ruffle their feathers.

Yep, on paper City seemed to have the much tougher run-in than Chelsea. But the mancs and arse have been so spineless this season, they're easier games than relegation threatened teams.

The mancs missed out narrowly several times before finally winning it again. I find it pretty tiresome how some pundits keep saying this is our best chance. This is just our latest chance. And in terms of an experience it's a win-win situation: we'll either come top thanks in part to our naive lack of fear, or we'll come back better prepared to do it next time.

At this stage I want us to stay in it and not let the feeling slip away until at least Chelsea at home (which means not losing to City either). If we then fail to win it by not beating them then I'll be very disappointed but immensely proud of the team. I really really want Gerrard to get the PL title he so deserves. So keep it going lads, if not to the end then to the final 2-3 weeks and let us Dream On for a while longer. As it stands anything less than 3rd will be a massive let-down.

As far as next season goes, the CL (excited !) and other teams strengthening and maybe us not having such a good chance in the PL again ... don't believe a word of it. I've posted this on another site :-

Chelsea only have 18 players that have started more than 2 games this season, City have 20 (started more than 6 games). Liverpool 16 (and had Enrique been fit then he'd have started a lot more than 6 games). So effectively another 5-6 1st team level players will more than cover the bases. The only reason we may struggle in the CL is that the quality of the teams is higher in the later stages (assuming we reach them of course) otherwise the PL/FAC and LC is the same as this season so there is no reason to assume the extra CL games will have an adverse affect on our PL campaign that won't already be covered by the addition in high quality personnel expected this Summer.

City/Chelsea/Arsenal/United/Spurs have been spending a lot of money every season, so what's different about next Summer ? People often talk about incremental increase in a team's performances from buying new players, whereas in fact that is not even usually the case. Some buy but remain at the same level, some buy and their performance levels slip (for whatever reason), there can be no definitive that any of this will affect Liverpool for better or worse or that indeed we will see an increase in our perforamnce levels. We'll just have to wait and see but the Summer's transfer season should be an exciting time too (assuming Luis says of course) !

It does feel like our best chance though. Isn't it the closest in terms of points the top four have been in the history of the PL? You can't help but feel that next season and the seasons after will be much harder. City and Chelsea will spend more, Spurs will sort their shit out and Utd are unlikely to stay this bad.

That's not to say we have to spend all our time worrying about other teams. We have the opportunity to invest well, continue building and improving also. Perhaps I'm being overly pessimistic but over the short to medium term it still feels as though cementing a place in the top four is going to be hard enough. That's why being in the mix for the title now feels like such a unique opportunity.

It feels like our best chance so far. That's not to say we won't do better next season. And as fr the argument that we'll be in the Champions League next year, well, when was the last time the title was won by a team that wasn't in the Champions League? Quite a while ago, I suspect.

At the very least this experience of being in a real title race, and we're definitely in one, will do our players and staff wonders going into the next seasons, If we don't win it, we'll be much better prepared to win one next season. Personally for me, 3rd is a brilliant season, any more is dream land.

I refuse to even believe we are in the title race until its in our own hands. Right now we are just playing for a champions league place until city drop points. If they don't then even if we win all our games it won't mean a thing. But regardless this has been an amazing season. Rodgers has given liverpool back their pride and made us a feared club again.
