IF Rafa get the Inter job...

Rafa clearly loves this club and what it stands for. However he took a compansation for the club to let him go.

If he really had loved this club as much as everyone thinks he would have guided us top the CL and gained us lots of cash.... 8)

Rafa is like any other employee, declarations of love are daft and unnecessary. But he was entitled to a lot more than we paid him. And I would have gone for the maximum pay out from those clowns.

Entitled, yes.

Deserved, no.

'Deserved' is largely irrelevant though isn't it?

Agree with both of you.

Few could argue he deserved to walk off with such a sum after last season, though. That's the main point I was making, but as you say, it's irrelevant. He got it.

If you are a sought after commodity, be it a clever CEO or a clever manager, you have a lot of leverage in contract negotiations and you can get these sort of "pay me x if you sack me" deals. If your prospective employer doesnt want to offer you this because it is "daft" you sign for the competition. You ask for these kind of perks because a) you can, b) you like money, and c) both business and football can be volatile, high variance working environments. Any normal, ambitious, competitive human being would ask for this if they thought they could get it. This shouldnt be hard to understand. And yes, it is of course possible for Rafa to both love LFC and ask for what he is due from his employer.

Just confirming on sky sports that Rafa is taking over at Inter Milan tomorrow!
Good move for both of them.

I don't envy Benitez following Mourinho though. Their squad are in for some changes. Hopefully one of them is meeting Lucus.

One of the papers said earlier that Rafa himself didn't majorly fancy the idea of succeeding Mourinho. That's one media rumour I can believe.

As far as Lucas is concerned, there was that story that McClaren wanted him at Wolfsburg in part-ex for Dzeko, so fingers crossed we could actually get something for him from somebody.

Inter Milan have announced that former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has agreed to become the club's new coach.
"We've got an agreement, we finalised the last details that in any case weren't important," Inter president Massimo Moratti told ANSA news agency.
Moratti said Benitez would be presented as the new coach on Tuesday, adding: "All we need is a counter-signature."
Benitez, 50, left Liverpool last week after six years at Anfield and will succeed Jose Mourinho at the San Siro.
The Spaniard has a strong track record in European football, having won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005 and the Uefa Cup with Valencia in 2004.
But he would have big shoes to fill at Inter, with Mourinho winning the league in both seasons he was at the club, not to mention securing the Champions League and Italian Cup last season.

606: DEBATE
I can see Benitez doing quite a good job at Inter. He could play his preferred 4-2-3-1 in a similar manner to Mourinho

And before Mourinho's spell at the club, Inter won three consecutive titles under Manchester City's current manager Roberto Mancini.
Towards the end of last season, Benitez was strongly linked with a move to Inter's rivals Juventus, but since his departure from Anfield he became the subject of speculation suggesting a move to the San Siro was imminent.
Even Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano, one of his former players at Liverpool, suggested that the Spaniard would be the ideal fit for Inter.
"Only Benitez could take the place of a coach like Mourinho," said Mascherano.
"He is a great coach. He has charisma, personality, a winning mentality.
"Moreover, he will find himself brilliantly in Italy because of the tactical game. Rafa studies everything on the table and directs the team from the bench like an orchestra conductor.
"After Mourinho, he is the only man capable of continuing Inter's winning run."

Well, I shall be following Serie A with some interest next season. Inter have the best team in the league, so the expectations will be high.

If they weren't contractually obliged to pay him off, do you think they would have bothered?

I'm not arguing that - he wasn't entitled to more than he got.

I still cannot get my head around rafa leaving us due to his failures and going to the champions league treble holders

how weird is that.

It's like getting blown out by the Ginger bird in girls aloud and then bedding cheryl cole

It is rumoured he has signed a 2 year contract, with a performance-related extra year on the end. Salary is €4 million a year.

If our owners would have made him that offer, we could have saved a few quid.

And no one is ever good enough for LFC unless he delivers the PL within a year or two.

All you've proven is that Rafa is like any other football manager; who's rewarded for both failure and success.

The only criminals here are theamericans giving him such a bumper contract on the basis`of one good season out of three.

... I will be asking everybody who claims that he had (and retains) an unquenchable love and respect for all things LFC and the city itself, how exactly he demonstrated that devotion by taking 6 million quid that we don't have to waste off us a matter of mere days before signing a multi-year, multi-million Euro deal elsewhere.

IF he does that, it will show me EXACTLY how much Rafa loves and respects Liverpool Football Club.
Wow, so if someone asked you to take 6 mill and leave a job you loved quietly you would not go????

Puhlease!!!!!!!

Rafa is gone, he did his best, let him be already...

He earned the money and deserved it, so let it go already...

He could have said screw you I want all the money, and stayed, but he left , so you should be really happy...
If I truly LOVED the job, was already filthy rich, was about to get filthy-er rich at my new gig and the job I LOVED didn't have $6 never mind $6million to waste, then yes I f#$!ing would.

Easier said than done...

This is a little snippet from tha Mirror article from this morning...

The sacked Reds manager has decided to forgo a large part of his own compensation from Liverpool - which will only be paid if he remains unemployed - by agreeing to join the Italian side so swiftly.

Hmm... sounds to me like he is not trying to fleece the club...
