I wonder if Modric still wants that move.

I don't see how the Lampard / Modric thing would work.

There's no way Spurs would pay Lampard's wages, and I can't see Chelsea agreeing to buy Modric for 40m or whatever was rumoured, pay him 200k a week and continue to pay Lampard about 120k a week towards his wages to play for Spurs.

Chelsea aren't that stupid surely?

They are on a fantasic run, and are where we should be, if we hadn't dropped those stupid fucking points.

But unlike us, they have a paper thin squad and won't be able to handle the injuries and tirdness that will creep in come february onwards.

Also unlike us, they haven't played all the big boys yet, and thats where we will see their mettle, look at the barcodes as an example ...

I can see us finishing above Spurs Chelsea Arsenal and Newcastle this season, and maybe united too, but shit as united are playing, they are grabbing those 1-0 wins....

You're a mad man.

If we finish 2nd or 3rd I'll do something that I wouldn't normally do to emphasise how unlikely this is.

If Modric did go to Spurs then Ming will be even more marginalised (but very rich)

Spurs will be more than 10pts ahead of us if they win their game in hand.

It's still relatively early in the season but that isn't to be poo pooed.

Thats because of the 6 pointer we lost with them, but who have they played from the big boys?

Not as many as we have and they will drop points for sure, and if not them then the rest of the contenders ....

Yep....we won't be catching Spurs unless we go on a winning streak that is as good as theirs.

To put some perspective on it, we have only achieved a 10 game winning streak once in the last 10 years, and that was under Rafa.

I.e it's near impossible for us to catch spurs as things stand.

If they win the game in hand v Everton they will be 10 points ahead of us, and thats IF, but we still have to play them at Anfield, if Everton beat them its only 7 points diff, and that would be down to 4 if we beat them at Anfield, we don't need a 10 game winning streak to gain 4 points in reality do we?

A 10 game winning streak would see us battling Citeh at the top, and lets just see what comes eh?

We haven't played as well as we can so far but are looking better every game, ANYTHINg can happen even a 10 game winning run ....

10 points is catchable in 4 months of football. I know it probably won't happen, but it's not beyond the realms.

Harry's doing a very good job there. I bloody hate Spurs.

We have played 13 and they have played 13. What is this game in hand you are on about?

They are 7 points ahead, and considering their form it's fair to expect that they won't be dropping too many points. So the only way for us to catch them is to better their form.

Citi have dropped 4 points so far in this season....if you think we will catch them with a 10 game streak......i have nothing to say, but just tilt my proverbial hat to your optimism.

Spurs will go through a bad spell aswell, just wait for it. They have a very good first eleven, but not the strongest squad.
But from the first 13 games played, its looking like a 3 way battle for 4th with us, Chelsea and Arsenal. And I quite fancy us actually.
Utd, City and Spurs will, on todays form, get the 3 first places.

It will take a mega effort. I just think it's too much to ask of our team at this point. In the last two seasons i don't think we have put together a run of 4 consecutive league wins. I just don't see it happening ....is all...

Not jumping on the AVB bandwagon but realistically, I think at the moment we should be looking at the teams closer to us now - Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle. Only after we've fought into the 4th spot should we aim higher.

Prior to yesterday's win vs Newcastle, Chelsea are the only team of the top 7 to take no points from head-to-head games vs. the other teams in that group this season. They play Man City next wk and travel to Spurs on 22nd Dec. With their recent form and the Valencia match (and possible exit from CL), they are the likeliest to drop points this month. In 2012, they entertain Man Utd and Spurs and while having to travel to Etihad Stadium, Emirates and Anfield.

Of cos, Spurs won't be having it easy in 2012 too - with away trips to Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Emirates and Etihad Stadium. The only trickier homes games are against Man Utd and probably Newcastle.

Hopefully, we'll be able to move into the top 4 by end of 2011.

(Edit: Next wk might be a good one for us - obviously we have to win our own games though.

Stoke - Tottenham
Arsenal - Everton
Chelsea - Man City)

I'm all for optimism, Asbo, and I admire it. But this Spurs team are really, REALLY good, and deserve more credit than they're being given. Waiting for a slip up from them may leave you waiting a while. Certainly a slip up where they drop ten points in quick succession.

I can understand your optimism since we've matched the big teams this season (bar Spurs), but that's not what worries me. It's the lesser teams we can't seem to put away that makes me feel like we can't catch them and finishing in the top 4 will be an uphill struggle. Even more so now that Lucas is out (I never thought I'd say that).

I would bite your hand off now for 4th.

Spurs are the 2nd best team in the Premiership. They have a strong squad and aren't affected too badly by injuries when they do happen. Let's not forget that they're playing some great football.

We have a realistic chance at 4th but it depends on how we adapt without Lucas and who we bring in in the January window to get us goals.

I have some sympayth with Asbo on this in that, if we can match the 2nd half of last season with that of this season we're going to give everyone a mighty shake. The problem is that last season we had a couple of players available who are not there now. I'm beginning to wonder if that's a false hope - we've seen encouraging signs the last few weeks but the next 3 will give us a better understanding.

As for Spurs; I do think their squad is stronger than many seem to credit them for plus Harry is doing a very good job there. They've flattered to deceive multiple times in the past 4 years though so I wonder if they're lacking the mental toughness needed - or has Adebayor gone some way to correcting that?

For the record I think 4th place is very much achievable - I'd be shocked if we don't get there. The caveat is, of course, what we do in January and, possibly more importantly, what Roman does in the same period.

Which league table are you looking at Keni? They are currently 8 points ahead of us with the same games played

Keni has obviously seen the future and knows that we lose to Fulham tomorrow...

I wish Citeh would recall Adebayor off them, they are right on Citeh's tails and he's one of Spurs best goalscorers, they could weaken them in an instant .....

If Spurs squad is as strong as some people are making out, then why did they get beaten at home to a poorish Greek side at home last week? The first team may be good, but the squad isn't THAT strong imho.

It's worth noting Tottenham still have Chelsea to play and I don't fancy them in head to head games with the top teams. They will drop points, it's up to us to keep the pressure on. For us to have a chance of getting in the top four they have to drop points to make it 2 out of 4.

They were never taking that Europa League seriously. They had a few kids out. They had Van Der Vaart come off the bench the other day, I think that proves they have a decent squad.

They will drop points every now and again, but until we can finish the teams below us we'll never make up the gap.

I think they have a very strong squad. They have loads of midfield options which will be added to when Huddlestone returns, likewise the defence when Dawson and Gallas recover fully. I think Harry will add another striker in January as well. Their 2nd team could be something like:-

Gomes/ Cudicini, Corluka, Gallas, Dawson, Rose, Kranjcar, Huddlestone, Sandro, Pienaar, Pavlyuchenko and Defoe.
