I'll bite.

Is using the term "negro" in anger necessarily racist?

I've no idea.

I've yet to hear a scenario in which Suarez could have used it which would explain his innocence. Hence the question

@mark1975 Suarez himself admitted to using the word negro.

A very much overlooked fact.

@Portly and @JudgeJules I'm interested to know how you think he used the term negro on the pitch.

The he's innocent stance is absolutely baffling, hence this thread.

You could have put an @Halmeister in there too, given he went to the trouble of posting a long and poignant message on the matter. Oh.

And as Doc said, we don't need a moral telling off from Ryan of all people, Ryan who can't post on the forum without aiming a sniveling insult at someone.

Ok here's a slightly more light-hearted one....

The Madam opened the brothel door to see a frail, elderly gentleman. "Can I help you?" the madam asked.
"I want Natalie," the old man replied.
"Sir, Natalie is one of our most expensive ladies, perhaps someone else..."
"No, I must see Natalie." Just then Natalie appeared and announced to the old man that she charges $1,000 per visit. Without blinking, the man reached into his pocket and handed her ten $100 bills. The two went up to a room for an hour, whereupon the man calmly left.
The next night he appeared again demanding to see Natalie. Natalie explained that no one had ever come back two nights in a row and that there were no discounts...it was still $1,000 a visit. Again the old man took out the money, the two went up to the room and an hour later, he left.
When he showed up the third consecutive night, no one could believe it. Again he handed Natalie the money and up to the room they went. At the end of the hour Natalie questioned the old man: "No one has ever used my services three nights in a row. Where are you from?"
The old man replied, "I'm from Philadelphia."
"Really?" replied Natalie. "I have family who lives there."
"Yes, I know," said the old man. "Your father died, and I'm your sister's attorney. She asked me to give this $3,000 to you."

You think he's innocent.

Tell me how he used the term innocently

I'm not interested in biting.

My point was totally different and unrelated to this specific issue - you are abusing your mod power for a personal obsessive agenda.
You conveniently ignored my point.

Halmeister said he was guilty and deserved to be punished - that's quite different from saying he's innocent. In fact it's the opposite.

Irony alert in your second sentence.

The word “Negro” is used in the English-speaking world to refer to a person of black ancestry or appearance. The word negro denotes 'black' in the Spanish and Portuguese, derived from the ancient Latin word, niger, 'black', which itself ultimately is probably from a Proto-Indo-European root *nekw-, 'to be dark', akin to *nokw- 'night'. "Negro" superseded "colored" as the most polite terminology, at a time when "black" was more offensive. This usage was accepted as normal, even by people classified as Negroes, until the later Civil Rights movement in the late 1960s. One well-known example is the identification by Martin Luther King, Jr. of his own race as 'Negro' in his famous 1963 speech I Have a Dream. #justsayin 😉

The FA would've banned Dr King too.

The irony of what? Pulling up people who are being sanctimonious, self-righteous arseholes? Get real, I might have a go but it's usually in retaliation to someone who's asking for it, you two come on here looking for it, permanently.

As for Hal, he tried to explain the cultural difference and why in many respects the only thing he was guilty of was not adjusting to a new environment, from one where the sort of comment he made is as common place as saying someone has blonde hair, ie it's a more complex issue than whether he's guilty or not, and there is a lack of consistency with our governing body - a point people were annoyed about at the time. Black and white territory again (no pun), you just want people to say, irrefutably that under our conditions he was "guilty", which he was, we all know that, we all know the complexities too, but from the lawyers viewpoint, technically you're right. He's a racist (in England), well done you.

All this thread needs is a poll.

'Should this thread be locked or not? Discuss.'

Please someone set it up.

Where are your manors ?

Touché, I'll play ball. You've yet to provide a scenario where Suarez was proved guilty of anything. Because that FA panel proved nothing towards his guilt of being racist, in fact it more so proved the opposite.

He's guilty of saying it in the heat of battle and he deserved his ban.

I doubt he's racist but he used it. He admitted he used it. He used it in a way to try and get a reaction. It wasn't a friendly conversation.

These are my feelings.

Not racist, used racist terminology as a grave error

I'd like to liken him to ryan

Not a racist, used racist language.

Ryan gets infinitely less sympathy on here though.

This i'm fine with. It's based in fact and logical.

I take issue with anyone protesting his innocence though. And those are the people I want an explanation from.

Maybe that's because he hasn't scored as many goals for us as Luis 😉

An explanation of what? The whole ins and outs were done to death ages ago, you're just waving the legal stick around over what he technically is or isn't, we all know it was wrong, we all know he was screwed over too by both the FA and Fergie (another point I'm sure you'll swerve), that he shot himself in the foot with his comment afterwards and that no attempt to educate or consider cultural difference was put into practice.

Was he racist? In the heat of the moment he used comment that is unacceptable in our culture, was he dealt with fairly by an agenda-free committee? Was he fuck. Like I said, there's no other reason for this other than you massaging your legal-eagle ego, next time you have a go at someone over a single name thread that's promoting debate about a player, we'll all remember shite like this eh?

No it wasn't all done to death.

None of the he's innocent brigade (who are still ludicrously clinging onto the notion) has ever provided an explanation of how he used the term negro towards Evra in a manner that he could found innocent.

I don't give a shite about any other aspects - which have been done to death.

Ok, let's stop being coy with this shit. Why don't you post a list of who said it? I've no doubt that you have one at the ready, and you were happy to quote a seasoned poster out the blue just to try and make him look like a cunt, so why don't you take half the forum to task, if that's the case. Then you can bask in the glory and we'll all think you're brilliant.

You clearly only see what you want to see then, because everyone says that he did wrong, it's the complete farcical procedure around it that people have a problem with.
