but this is just insane.

Anyone of you who think he's innocent, please tell me how he innocently used the word negro towards Evra.

I'm all ears

Define innocent? Because as far as I'm aware, he was never judged beyond reasonable doubt to have done anything, and in the country I live in, that's a requirement of guilt.

I don't think he used it innocently, he was attempting to get under his skin. Whether or not it was racist in intent, or methodology, or at all cannot be absolutely determined.

To translate the word negro as negro rather than black when placed in an English context definitely skews the argument from the off.

It's not the most rich text to do a close reading of though. I think there are better ways to spend your time.

Dismissing a post or thread as trolling/old news/boring is a lot easier than actually answering the question sometimes.

That some of you have chosen to ignore Suarez's racism cos he's playing well say's more about you than about Ross here I'm afraid.

And I'll leave up to you to work out whether I'm actually trolling here too or not? Hmmmmm...

We're not ignoring racism, we don't believe it ever existed. Suarez was completely stitched up by the FA and the whole thing was orchestrated by Sir Alex Ferguson who had place-men everywhere to do his bidding. The FA "inquiry" was the worst travesty of justice since Josef Stalin's show trials.

I'm rather puzzled that some Liverpool supporters want to believe that Suarez was guilty as charged.

The main issue for me was that he used "negro", meaning black - not calling Evra a negro in the English sense - but he meant it to wind Evra up. Therefore he deserved to be punished.

However, a couple of things stick in the craw. From what I can remember, Evra called Suarez a "sudaca" first - a highly offensive term for a South American. Discrimination is discrimination and both should have been punished.

The second was how the case was run, with Evra able to watch the footage multiple times before coming up with a story, while Suarez was questioned without this privilege. I don't know anything about inquiries like this, but this didn't seem fair.

Overall, though, fuck this. It's been done to death. He's not a racist but he made a stupid remark.

Not to mention John Terry got half the ban for being caught on camera for calling someone a black cunt. It was just ridiculous all round.

Ha ha ha.

Many naive people were fooled by the weighty report by the FA committee which appeared to show a mass of evidence condemning Suarez. On closer examination, however, it turned out that what the committee had done was to decide that Evra was an honest fellow and Suarez was a bit dodgy. The "evidence" in the report actually consisted of Evra's unprovable allegations (made I believe at the instigation of Ferguson). The report actually included the statement that the committee did not believe that Suarez was a racist. As Suarez said himself, he has an Afro-Caribbean grandfather.

What he did was racist. He isn't a racist.

My main gripes are many people don't really know what racism is, and it's probably perceived differently by everybody. Uruguay is a very multicultural country, and has been a lot longer than the UK has, so viewpoints are perhaps more diluted and relaxed there. I think it was Pereira who came out and said at the time that it wasn't racist - his nickname is the monkey by the way. I just think it's how it's perceived differently by different people. For me, ideally, a person's skin colour should be no more important than a person's hair or eye colour. But that will never happen here. From what I read, that's somewhat the case in places like Uruguay. If someone is black, they call them black. Here, people don't know what's racist and what isn't, the PC brigade are out in force changing stuff every couple of years to the point where we're not allowed to say blackboard anymore or baa baa black sheep. People go quiet and coy when describing a black person, hesitating what we should actually say. My inkling is that the people in charge here didn't really know what racism is, but didn't want to be seen as relaxed on the subject - hence the punishment for Suarez, while also ignoring the discrimination and abuse Evra dished out. I'm not saying Suarez should have been found innocent, not at all, but a bit of consistency within this case - and others - would have been nice.

And before anybody says anything, I - like Suarez - have a black grandfather 😉

Rosco reminds me of a fat lawyer-wannabe who never really managed to finish law school and is like working odd jobs and stuff to make ends meet, goes on an internet forum to provoke others into 'intellectual' debates. And he probably does it with his pants down to his knees, with a bottle of hand lotion next to him.

An ambulance chaser?

@mark1975 Suarez himself admitted to using the word negro.

A very much overlooked fact.

@Portly and @JudgeJules I'm interested to know how you think he used the term negro on the pitch.

The he's innocent stance is absolutely baffling, hence this thread.

And I'm not the slightest bit interested in whether he's a racist or not.

Making racist comments doesn't make someone racist as not making them doesn't mean your not racist, so park that issue.

Park the FA for a second too

Just tell me, if you think he is innocent, how he used the term negro to Evra.

Fucking hell. A lecture on racism from Ryan 'gorillas in the mist' (a comment mammothly more racist than anything Suarez was accused of). Now I've really seen it all.

People are refusing to comment because they have had this frankly tired argument before, and don't want to feed the fucking troll.

Re opened.

I want to know how people have rationalised his innocence.

And if your only contribution is to write off me as a troll, then I'll have I point you towards the forum rules.

And then come back and tell me how using negro towards Evra = innocence. It's a very simple question, which I probably won't get an answer to.

Because if you can't, then I suggest don't ever claim he's innocent.

I think you're abusing your mod powers.
FFF locked the thread as he decided it had to be locked.
If it was my thread I could do nothing about it.

And I'm saying this regardless of my stance re this specific topic.

People here asked for the ignore button to be applied on mods too. I can now see why.

You think he's innocent.

Tell me how he used the term innocently
