Hull / Season post-mortem

What, exactly?

How to spend £200m and have the best team in a league with no genuine competition?

Or the Biesla influence of not winning any trophy ever? What could he learn from him?

Has he ever discussed this?

Wow. I wonder why Bielsa is being cited as one of the most influential managers of the past 20 years – it's clearly a mass delusion among managers, since obviously only the serial trophy winners like Mourinho have anything worthwhile to contribute to the game. And also Rinus Michels was a loser – he even lost to Germany in the final, clearly there was no value in this "total football" thing! Helmut Schön was the real genius. Now I get it!

He's so good that he's won not one trophy in 20 years and his longest club stint has been two years.

What an inspirational influence he is!

A fucking loser

All is not lost if we can arrest the fall. We face teams around us - Tottenham, Arsenal and Man City among our next 5 games so if we can lift our game and get favourable results against them, the tables will turn quickly, given how tight things are and their return to continental cup competitions.

I dread to think of another transfer window without CL though. There will be more Draxlers and Gotzes along the way (- you get what I mean. let's leave the debate regarding their motivation aside). Then, there's the matter of hanging on to players (probably only Coutinho for now I guess) who may be tempted to move on in search of honours/CL football as opposed to finishing outside of top 5 in 6 out of the past 8 seasons.

I thought we didn't need to play with a striker?

sigh

When is everyone going to simply agree with everything I say in order to save time and a tediously lengthy exchange of posts?

As for the goalkeeper situation, I've obviously been saying that Mignolet isn't good enough for three years now, but are you that convinced by Karius?

I'm not sure at all.

Firmino is a striker in Klopp's system .. and I never said we didn't need one (see my exchange with Keni on Thursday for example, which you were around too).

No, I'm not convinced by Karius ... but we KNOW Mign is drek. Let's see if Karius confirms that too in the coming 14 games.

Exactly. Your genius is wasted here. I'd stop posting altogether if I were you.

That's not fair, teams in Germany do fight in every game. Plus Klopp won the league twice with Borussia rather than Bayern, with no huge money advantage or intimidation factor. Let's survive this low point together without questioning absolutely everything, shall we?

Let's put things in perspective – we've had an amazing September-October-November far exceeding all expectations, first place at Christmas. Then we lost Coutinho, Matip and Mane in quick succession, while teams started gradually figuring out Klopp's tactics and the combination of these things led to an awful January and now this loss. Somehow we still managed to be unbeaten vs the top 6 opposition, but "smaller" teams have been our undoing. We'll be out of top 4 by tomorrow for the first time since the beginning of the season. I am certain we will rebound and find our form again this season. The question is whether it will happen quickly enough for us to get to the top-4 place by the end.

The Premier league is miles more competitive than the Bundesliga, as any cursory glance at the obvious facts will confirm

Leaving all the snark and back-biting and piss-taking aside, there's a big question to be asked.

While we could make the case that Lucas in the first team is a fucking joke, because he wouldn't get a game for Hull, quibble about Can and Wijnaldum and whatever, argue about which shit goalkeeper is less or more shit, the facts are that the team we put on the pitch, Lucas aside, is a good side.

There's lots of good players in it. Certainly better than Hull's team.

So why on Earth didn't we play like it?

A simple thing I know but why is it that everyone on this forum can see that Can and Henderson together is a fucking disaster but Klopp cant?

Also why drop your goalscorer from your last game!

By your logic, the Titanic is the best film of all time.

Oh, and Guardiola who has won everything (generally following Bielsa's blueprint, but without the anger management issues) gets dismissed because he supposedly had more more money (which ignores that Madrid in fact had more money). So either way whether you win stuff or not, it gets dismissed. OK.

I can't believe you mean we player worse than Hull? We played ok in second half but there is a Orange and Black Wall inside their box and we need to find a way through it...

We sacrificed the cups, something I was OK about if the means justified the end - hmmmm, time will tell.
We've got a good team but zero strength in depth and as the season has progressed that has become disproportionately obvious

Klopp has shown nothing to demonstrate he's tactically astute. We can only play one way and we've been found out.

The same issues that plagued Rodgers are still there, great against the bigger teams because they tend to attack you and give you space but shite against teams who sit back and are well drilled.

The central midfield isn't dynamic enough, we need a striker with a bit of nouse to make the clever runs and the defence is a joke. He's done nothing to address any of that.

I said at the beginning of the season that we'd regret not sorting key areas of the defence and the signs were there despite the wins against Arsenal and Chelsea - we nearly threw the Arsenal game away despite being 3 up.

I'm not saying Klopp isn't the answer but he needs to cotton on pretty quick. A world class manager has to have the ability to adapt - Conte did it after the Arsenal defeat but we just keep rolling out the same players and formation.

We have a demanding style. But we also have forced teams like Man U and Chelsea to Lie deep and counter us. Of course it is harder like today when Hull has no intention bar munning up their own box and pray for a counterattack or a set piece. I read that we have been found out but it is not difficult to play like that. We aim higher and will keep improving and developing the team and the way we play. Remember that Klopp is in this business to win the league and the CL. There is no shortcuts for that.

Yes we have forced the teams to do that but at our own cost.

Today I did not get to watch the game but I am guessing that the same story about the game unfolded - us with all the ball, plodding in front of a bus that we could not get through and when we did no one clinical enough to finish it off ? - am I right ? - I suspect so. We have no excuse in that within 30 days we have been kicked out of the cup competitions and any hope we had of challenging for the league has completely collapsed. How bad and weak are we as a team ? -especially when think that against the next opponents Spurs we will probably turn up playing good shit. That ain't good enough - we are one of the richest clubs in world football and we failed to sign a striker in the January window when there was a chance of a title at stake.

How fucked up are we as a club ? we should have signed someone regardless if only to see that player prove himself initially by giving a shit up front to justify his own signing. We have seen this before and sometimes it works and in our case given our complete lack of form we should have taken this approach. I am totally pissed at today's result to the point where I am struggling to hold back the fucking tears of rage in me. These cunts are really letting us down - not using their heads or thinking properly. Wake up you fuckers.

Guess we can only hope that this string of results has been enough for Klopp to finally acknowledge that he's not working with much. If he's still looking at that shower of a squad and thinking we've been unlucky, then that's the biggest problem we've got.

Key positions are filled with very mentally weak players. Worst are central midfield and goalkeeper. Any turnover, no matter how far from our goal, almost always results in our conceding. No clisind- just dannying about. We knew Mignolet was gash so can't be surprised at the gaffes. Lovren isn't any better than Lucas, and Lallana and Clyne are back to their mid to lower table performances. And the manager genuinely looks baffled.

So after these 5-6 weeks Klopp suddenly isnt a World class manager? Christ, you'd think parts of our fan group expect failure.

Anyway, Burnley got a pen for the exact same handball on Prödl that Robertson got away with. Poor from Mason.

It continues to baffle me why our fanbase ridicules Everton for their not winning a trophy since 1995. We're a bigger Club with bigger resources (despite FSG's finding value ways) and we've won one trophy in 11 fucking years, and played Champions League Football once in 7 years or whatever it is. It's fucking appalling.

Part of our fans group just don't expect 1 win in 11 which was against a League 2 side whilst we watch the same old shite...same pattern of play, same favourtism to certain players when they're obviously not performing and the same old mistakes at the back.

Klopp was rightly lauded and showered with praise in the opening half of the season but you have to take the rough with the smooth...he'll know that more than anyone.
