how much should Roy get?

Director of football or whatever is a stupid idea. Will just give us fans 2 different people to blame for the shit Liverpool puts itself through. Man City is a stupid example as well. You can't model your business on something that is only in it's infancy.

lyon: i don't know much about them. so they had a DOF from the start of their success then? obviously that'd make the initial success impressive, but didn't they subsequently dominate because of successive years of CL income that no other french club could match?

how do you explain spurs' problems with the system? nothing but problems with it, nothing but success without it, at least seemingly to a casual observer.

i mean, i can see the benefit of having someone else - like that arnesen guy at chelsea - scouting and signing the best young players, regardless of the needs of the first team. i'd actually like to see us continue to do that at liverpool. but not for the first team. i don't understand why you think things suddenly fall apart when a manager fails and is replaced. do you mean that his system and way of playing dictates the players brought in, and that with a change of manager a new system might not suit those players? if so, i don't see how a DOF solves that problem: surely there's exactly the same problem of his players - presumably bought to suit his idea of a football team - not suiting the system favoured by a new coach. i think you'd always have that inefficiency caused by differing philosophies between the coach and the guy buying the players - it might solve some problems but imo it'd create even more serious ones.

Zilch, Zero, Zip, Nada, Nothing...etc

Rijkaard or Van Gaal should get about £80 Million.
Buy at least four new players.
Jovetic, LLorrente, Afellay, Gary Cahill etc.

It's a flawed question. A better one is how much does this squad need spent on it to get back into the CL?

I would argue that it needed at least £40M, and that's a conservative estimate.

Ryan's right, we surely won't spend too much in January. A move for Forlan seems to be on the cards, which be great, but I'm not too optimistic about this window as whole.

Man City do it, through Brian Marwood.

I read an interview with him a while back in which he outlined the type of procedure they have to go through to sign any player. Some sort of detailed 50 page document has to be drawn up on the player covering everything - background, role, cultural fit, capabiliy, style, how he'd fit into the team, blah blah blah - Which then get's presented to the Arab lad who decided whether to sanction the transfer or not.

Apparently they do this for all propsective signings, whether they're a Tevez or a 13 year old.

I'll see if I can find the article. Quite interesting.

You can ask the manager/CEO to prepare the 50 pages document, you don't need another proxy to do it.

On paper a DOF does appear to make sense, but it's whether a harmonious relationship can be kept between themselves and the manager that is the crucial factor. If a DOF ensured that we had no more Keane's and Aquilani's then I think it would be a risk worth taking.

In Dalglish we appear to have the perfect man for the job. No manager is going to have a public fall out with a club legend. Whether they would come and work in such a set-up remains to be seen - but it's not uncommon for managers on the continent.

You think Managers have time to prepare 50 page documents on prospective targets do you?

Would you have them manning the phones at the ticket desk, selling the hot dogs at half time, and cutting the grass on the pitch too?

Do you think it's that easy to ask for millions on prospective targets?

How much should Roy be getting for this January window? 10 mil max IF he still is our manager. I don't expect him to be here this January by the way. A couple more losses will get him in fucking deep deep trouble. SACK. HIM.

Nothing.

We should have a Director of Football in charge of transfers.

This deserves its own thread. Start one mate. Its an interesting topic to discuss.

He signed Meireles who has been outstanding aswell as signing konchesky who has been decent for us. Yeah Poulsen has been shit so far but he isnt as bad in the market as people are suggesting

Konchesky is an average left back. I wouldn't call him decent. Where as Meireles is a decent midfielder who needs to be playing at the centre of midfield. Not upfront as an attacking midfielder.

Roy is certaintly a bad manager so far so i don't give a flying fuck whether he is good in transfer market or not. Performance on the pitch counts.

Ross - glock is agreeing with you. You might want to reevaluate your thoughts here.

i agree with that but as for Meireles being "decent", he is better than decent, he is one of our better players. Roy just needs to play him where his position is
