How far are we from winning it?

We seem to be rehashing old threads so...

Which players players do we have to buy in order to win the league? Realistically.

To be honest if this squad is kept intact, I think we only need:

Gary Cahill
Enrique

+ a striker. Don't think Ngog is the right way to go.

Having just watched the mancs .... a good few players short i reckon, but we will definitely cause teams problems this season.

players wise we aren't too far off tbh, its whether the manager can get the team playing to its maximum potential and how quickly new players can adapt to eachother. You have to have a winning mentality and that comes with winning games and team morale then increases. Signing enrique, a CB and 1 other quality attacking player should really get us challenging for the title. As things stand, like I said 2-3 players need to come in..quality players.

Also maybe a new DM just incase Lucas gets injured but i guess Adam could do the job

I don't think a winger for the right is a priority. How often are we going to play with two wingers? Downing has more than enough ability to switch to the right during games if the opposition's left back is easier to exploit.

There are still gaps to fill or cover to provide. LB, CB, DM and CF cover. But the main thing is time, our squad is miles better now than it has been for some time but it will be better again in 12 months when the gaps have been filled and those already in will have properly 'bedded-in'. We'll be competitive this season but I think it's nuts for anyone to say we will win it. Next season however...

There are very very few teams that play with two out and out wingers - even United rarely play that way, often having one attacking winger (e.g. Nani) and one more defensive one (e.g. Park) or at least playing them like that. We don't need another out and out winger but we do need a back-up for Downing.

Kuyt will be back-striker this season, and probably deserves that shot. If N'Gog stays he'll be #3 and if he goes then we'll get in #3 or maybe use Amoo.

Don't forget to that team we have to add Suarez and Gerrard, so assuming we are going to play an attacking 4-4-2 this season (and I believe we are) then I think we'll see two more players, Enrique and (I really hope) Cahill. Then we could challenge.

GF : Reina (Doni)

LB : Enrique (Aurelio/Flannagan/Robinson)
CB : Agger (Carra) + Cahill (Skrtel/ Kyrgiakos)
RB : Johnson (Kelly)

MF : Gerrard / Miereles / Adam / Spearing / Lucas / Shelvey (arrivederci Aquaman)

RM : Henderson / Kuyt
LM : Downing (Aurelio / Sterling)

AM : Suarez (Kuyt/Maxi)
CF : Carroll (Kuyt / N'Gog)

That fella Kuyt is going to get a lot of games !

personally i would have signed lamela from river plate as he will be a superstar! even though he plays left wing too him and downing couldve swaped wings.

someone that is available is say adam johnson or i wouldv gone for joaquin (went to malaga for 3.5mil) or carzola, orr navas. Options are there

If we sign a LB and CB our squad would be plump and ready to mount a serious challenge for the top four places. However, I feel we are still missing one or two players who can take the pressure off Gerrard/Suarez to do something unpredictable.

It will be nice to have a fine squad don't get me wrong but i'd never say no to player of Suarez's ilk.
