How does Rodgers win the fans back?

His status with supporters is probably at levels similar to Hodgson in the latter months of 2010. And the problem is, the abuse has been aimed not just at the the results, but his personality as well.

Firstly, is it possible that Rodgers could ever get to the level of respect Benitez had 2004 - 2009? Secondly, if so, what does he need to do to earn that, aside from the obvious of winning more football matches.

For me, its a long shot for him, but . .

1. Win a trophy
2. And if you do win a trophy, no self-congratulating. In fact, no self-congratulating at all, especially once we've put a good run of form together.
3. Stop with the usual clichéd responses. The reason I wanted Klopp so badly was partly from just watching his interviews. Answers are honest, candid and off the cuff - not stereotypical, PR spin
4. Stop talking so much - do the job
5. Stop praising mediocrity
6. Learn from Steven Gerrard and know when to not be such a nice guy and show some balls. i.e. End of the Chelsea game a couple of months ago.

Hyperbole much.

I like Rodgers and I think his PR is sometimes looked at through a magnifiying glass by his detractors and carefully picked off, ie no matter what he says, he's on a hiding to nothing. But it is what it is, in terms of enamoring the fans, he's lost whatever promise and respect he had, but I think alot of that is down to the manner of our capitulation last season, the media interviews are just a convenient source to vent at. He's not very good with the press but that could be as much down to not knowing what to say, than a case of him being the now rather cliched, egotistical talker.

Dalglish was clever with the press at times but by the end of his last stint, it wasn't washing, because people did the same, they picked holes in his interviews and cut through the bullshit, same with Rafa, same with Houllier.

I'm not normally one who likes any overt PR at a club, but he could really, really do with a couple of months of someone channeling him into safe areas. Someone who puts down some simple guidelines: show regret for last season, show a determination to make changes to avoid it happening again, express the passion to progress this season, and then...shut up. Just shut up. Get on with the job. Very short and dignified post-match interviews, win, lose or draw. Very short press conferences. Circle a date in your diary - the end of the season. Write down 'Me Day' there. That's when you can talk, if there's anything worth talking about. Until then, go to Melwood and Anfield, head down, mouth shut, and remember: deeds, not words.

results and silence in the short term

results and a more consideration before speaking in the long term

Actually, they're a bit of a pain in the arse even then. But yes, 'get winning and keep winning' is a valid response to the question at the start of the thread. Just unlikely.

This is the type of thing you can't really debate with Rodgers, he does seem fairly determined to promote youth, which will only be good in the longterm, regardless of what his own future holds:

Gomez:

The defender said: "I met him [Rodgers] and that was a defining factor. He was positive and has already shown he will give young players an opportunity.
"I thought carefully where would be the best place and give me the best chance to play - it was Liverpool.

There's a number of options, depending on who you have in mind as the fan.

1. Talk shit about Arsenal.

2. Talk shit about Spurs

3. Talk shit about United

4. Come out and tell everyone how much you love Liverpool and the Merseyside area and how you plan to raise a family there forever. (then move to Madrid)

5. Win games. Win trophies.

Results and keep wining, oh and shut up...

That's the crux really..

Win a Trophy and he will really have the fans back on side.. (providing you don't gloat over the fact with every press conference afterwards)

Indeed. But eminently more tolerable when they're talking shit and they're winning. Then we can just ignore the tripe which is harder to ignore when we're getting thumped 6-1. I find, anyway.

He's clearly been told to shut the fuck up. In fact that seems to be the theme from the club since Stoke cos we've heard nothing from Rodgers, the players, the owners. Half a dozen players signed, a clear out of almost all the coaching staff, a new stadium going up like a shot, and not one peep out of anyone at the club about single bit of it.

It's been refreshingly fantastic actually.

Yes. I'd argue the reality isn't quite the same: He ummed and aahd with Sterling before deciding not to send him off on loan, and I think he's been too cautious in sending Ibe on loan before later changing his mind, and in giving the likes of Kent and Wilson, Lussey and Brannagan a few minutes towards the end of the season. And ironically he inherited the only home grown young defender he's really tried so far. But obviously he does have SOME inclination to give kids a break - and he's certainly a damned huge improvement on Ged or Rafa in that respect - and if young players at other clubs over-estimate that inclination even a little bit, then great!

Avant le déluge. Brace yourself!

Yet, you was one of the first to post that he hasn't mentioned anything about the recent transfers.

Oh, the fickle fan.

He has been able to do this every once in a while and when he is in sincere, pithy Brendan mode I actually don't mind listening to him talk football.

When he starts bloviating and spewing out every footy buzzword that he read in the latest issue of the Blizzard is when he gets unlikable.

Yes.. I also said it is strangely quiet..

I am referring to when he would not shut up...

Nothing fickle at all... I am not the only one on here saying this.. but go on point it out like it just me...

Ok, it's just you. It's always 'just' you.

This would help greatly. He also has the unlucky habit of talking us up before big games only for us to lose... Pack that in for a start.

To win me back all he has to do is fucking win games... It's that simple.... I would have been happy to see him gone because last season was totally unacceptable and I feel he is due a lot of blame for it but we still have him. Maybe fucking things up will give him some needed humility and focus him. I hope so.
