It would be knee jerk if we weren't in our worst position in 50 odd years. Newcastle sack their manager when they're actually doing better than most expect. I doubt anyone would, without bias, have predicted we would be where we are now in the league.

He is basically a caretaker isn't he? He's only in charge until the end of the season.

In the summer we can look at our options, and if he's proven himself to be the best option, then he should get it. To be honest I can't see that happening, but we'll see in the summer.
 
normally sacking a manager after 6 months IS kneejerk but if hodgson wasn't hired by the owners and isn't in the owners long term long why the fuck should they persist with him.

as for kneejerk fans, as I've said before I've never wanted a manager sacked before until hodgson, not even gh and rafa in their final seasons.

the only way I can see kenny remining in the post beyond the summer is if he wins silverware. it's entirely possible the yanks ALREADY have their long term target but have to wait till the summer to secure him.

1) NESV didn't hire Hodgson - they felt they had to give him a chance when they arrived and he fucked it up.
2) We don't know
3) Comolli and Dalglish will be behind any signings this January.

All actions can be knee-jerk and they can be seen as not knee-jerk. For Hodgson, it was clear from day 1 that he didnt understand what was expected from a manager at Liverpool, and when he early on saw it as utopia to grab points at Everton and a huge challenge to face Northampton at home, it is not knee-jerk to do whats right for the club.

Or is nobody else that we think can do a better job comes available or wants the job. Which may happen if we don't start moving up the table.
 
A caretaker IS an interim manager - different words, same meaning.

I don't think Kenny'd want the job on a permanent basis - he didn't last summer and I can't see him changing his mind about that.

Yes, he will be allowed to make signings if the right ones come along, though as it's the January window there won't be many. NESV have already said as much and they're right to do so. You don't tend to get good value in January, as prices are inflated and there are relatively few really good players for sale anyhow.

Surely thats Comolli's brief now. I expect Kenny to be consulted but given the structure in place now and the fact that he isnt considered a long term appointment I doubt he will have a huge input into who is bought, he may have bigger say in the culling of dead wood though
