I notice when Kenny got off the plane yesterday and was interviewed by sky he was wearing a rather fetching navy V-neck.
Thats the stuff Kenneth.
He was also pretty sharp with the Sky reporter, something like "I've just got off a plane, be patient, right?"

Of course, I know oyu're more interested in the V Neck.
It was a bit blunter than that. He basically told him to fuck off, then shook his hand. Class act is Kenny.

Roy wouldve laughed & said we had no chance of winning cos we were away from home against a quality side, then asked to be reminded who we were playing.

not sure if this has been posted already, but it was reported in the media today that hodgson got a £7.5m payoff.

if that's true we've spent £16.5m to go from benitez to dalglish. fucking brilliant.

you can't really blame the yanks you have to blame purslow for hiring roy in the first place when the obvious choice to unite the fans and steady the ship was right in front of them and he even said he wanted the job.

Broughton and Purslow deserve gratitude for getting rid of the previous owners, but appointing Roy was a major blunder.

TalkSport reporting it now.

Handsome statement from Roy BTW. And I'm a lot less nervous about Kenny than I would have been about more or less any alternative.
You called this months ago, and we'd have been in much better shape otherwise.

I thought it was prudent to have someone with more recent experience at the helm, even if Dalglish was the far better manager...wrong big-time.

Hodgson wasnt my idea of a good choice, admittedly.

I think it'll be hard for Kenny to do a worse job than Hodgson, so this is good news all round.

On another note, I've finally trcked down 'My Liverpool Home' at the library, and I cannot tell you how much of a thrill it is to read this book now knowing the King is home.

There's been some regret spoken of in the book about his departure and his treatment by the club; which is something the club seems to perennially do, and it's great to know that the wheel has finally turned, hopefully.

Is it that high?

Benitez's pay-off was 6 million, wasn't it;to pay off 3 years of a 4 year contract...though I'm not too certain.

Hodgson's pay-off was to cover 2.5 years of a 3 year contract.

HOw much was this loser being paid? 🙁

Most of the reports on £7.5m are sourced from the NOTW, The Star says £3m.
If it is £7.5 then that is ludicrous as it always had the potential to be a short term event with new owners likely and the fact that Roy would have crawled over red hot coals to get here. I know he had to leave a nice little job, but £3m is more than enough anyway

regards

Why can't people just be fired for doing a shit job? WHatever about Rafa, surely there's a clear case for just pointing at the league table and ssaying "Roy, you're failing so we're letting you go." Isn't that what happens to the rest of us?

It's been reported that we paid 3 mill in Roys pay off. Hopefully that is the correct amount.

the club was going to be sold - why else bring in the high profile broughton
if rafa was going to rock the boat too much and be removed then replace him with someone who would unite the fans and would cost peanuts to move aside once the owners had identified their own man.
go to the 'roy out' thread first couple of pages, loads of people (including myself) were saying it at the time.

Yes,Neil..I do remember that thread.

There's no question that this appointment would always unite the fans and give us a lift, but there'd be (and still are) question marks over whether or not he'd be able to manage a club like ours after being out of the game for almost 20 years.

But there's also no question that at THIS moment, Kenny is badly needed.

You've put it brilliantly yourself.

In Case Of Emergency Break Glass.

I doubt kenny will remain in the job beyond the summer unless he wins the only trophy left available to us.
he is a brilliant idea till the end of the season and then we need a manager who we are going to build our long term plans around because I for one don't wont us to become a sacking club and roy is the first manager I've actively wanted sacked and I didn't like that feeling as I've supported every single manager until the end since I was little boy.

Well, now he's finally gone, and the bad smell he left behind is gradually dissipating, we can now choose our favourite, most hilariously wrong Budgie post from the annals of 6CM.

Some of these are great! But also a worrying example of how any perceived good news (Benitez leaving) can cloud the mind:

"It could be that Hodgson isn't a stubborn, easily upset manager who despite a cracking cv managed to give little imprint upon leaving of just what got him here in teh first place. I'm fully of the opinion that Roy has the ability to introduce a plan B; and is unafraid to drop those out of form. He also seems to be able to get the very best of some damned uninspiring players, something we could very much do with"

"He's tactically astute, but no overly complicated, he's widely liked and respected in the game - he's made of good stuff, and I think he'll help unify a dressing room and boost spirits. He's also proved at Fulham that he's an expert on living on a tight budget and getting the best out of resources and the current playing staff."

"And as you, myself, Vlad and a few others have said a dozen times now, if anything he'll get us back to basics, get the best out of what we've got and hopefully have us playing as a 'team' again".

"I'd put Dalglish as assistant manager."

"If he comes to Liverpool I can see Roy surprising many by doing well."

"Roy Hodgson is a good coach/manager. We will finish better than 7th if he takes over."

"I am really looking forward to having Hodgson at the helm.
I am hoping that I will no longer be mystified by strange transfer-market dealings, team selections, tactics and mind-boggling substitutions. Just for a change it would be nice to see a manager who does the bleedin' obvious."

"I am happy because he will take away all the complex crap and have players motivated and confident. I am happy because he is English"

"I'm glad it's Roy and I think he will do well. All the best!"

This last one is from Jamie Carragher:
""I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of working with Roy Hodgson as he's got such a great reputation in the game and is one of the most experienced managers in world football.

"After this period of uncertainty, his appointment has given us all a lift."

And Jamie a new contract! (only kidding Carra. Only kidding).

the media are hyprocrites. when he (roy) was touted for the job they came out with stuff like;
'he'll get more out of the squad than rafa'
'roy has gotten the extra mile out of mediocre clubs'
'steady the ship'
'safe hands'

and then they have the audacity to turn around and say the squad was too poor for roy to get any results. fuck off you hyprocritical no nothing idiots. the bottom line is, but for the utter fuck up of the previous owners roy would have been no where NEAR liverpool fc and the job he was brought in to do 'get the most out of a struggling team' he failed to do spectacularly.
