If Kenny can salvage anything from this season, I think they'll be enormous fan pressure put on the board to make his appointment permanent.
Well with the time they need to pull the finger out there arses we will be lucky to have any decision on new manager before 2015....

I obviously never got to see Dalglish play or manage us, but I remember Rush still slotting them away with his silly moustache when I was very young.

I'd love to see him on the dugout.

Ian Rush reportedly to be part of Kenny Dalglish's backroom staff. United and Everton in his first week. Couldn't write it. #LFC

Give it a rest for fuck's sake.

It should have happened 6 months earlier, sparing Hodgson alot of abuse. Good luck Roy.....and I wish you could take three-quarters of the team with you!

From the list of quotes: "I was disappointed – and I've told him this – that he – Dalglish – applied for the job in the summer because I don't think that was ever really going to happen for him." Roy
Picking the right players in the right positions would be a good start.

There may well be pressure from the fans to confirm Kenny permanently if he does as well as I expect he will, but I wouldn't then be surprised to see Kenny himself rule the idea out. You appoint a caretaker to do well between one permanent manager leaving and another arriving. Otherwise you appoint him permanently from the start. I for one wouldn't have wanted that for the King and I really don't think he would either.

Probably. But I think that would be a huge mistake. I hope Kenny makes it clear from the beginning that he has no hope or expectation of remaining LFC manager beyond the end of the season.

Almost all football managers end up getting sacked, and this way he would guarantee that not happening. I think it's best for both him and the club.

Fuck Roy I wish fire and brimstone upon him. Sulfur and acid. Gas and smoke. Whips and chains. Rapists and sodomites.

I think that it would maintain and guarantee his status with the fans but I am not necessarily convinced it would also be in the best interests of the club.

I'd hope he would be more pragmatic about it, as he was in the summer; If he sees nobody of the required calibre coming forward for the job then I'd hope he would declare his interest in the position on a longer-term basis. You guys know more about the man than me, but he strikes me as a man who would put the club over risk denting his reputation.

He might enjoy it, and we might do well. At this point I'd like to believe there are a few options open to us.

I see your point Jules, but I'm think in the mentioned scenario, if Kenny does end up ruling himself out, it'll be one with reluctance, more of giving in to the owner's wishes, not wanted to make things difficult for the new/incoming man etc. - something similar to how he took and handled the disappointment of being rejected in the summer. As for caretaker, again, I agree with your point but if the appointment is meant to buy time for the owners to source for replacement, then everyone should have a fair chance to be taken into consideration, more so if he proves himself capable. I am open to the possibility of Kenny staying on permanently.

Alas, I can't see it happening. The definition of doing well can be vague and different among people.

Let's agree to differ then, count. We'll never know for sure, but I believe the reports I saw last summer that Kenny's suggestion that he be given the job was specifically on a caretaker basis.

This.

This, and talking shite to the press, has been the undoing of our last two managers, it's not rocket science.

Both issues were epitomised in the Wolves game, and I said at the time that was really the final nail in the coffin, it was just a matter of time.

Though I'm worrying that I'm feeling like a Toon fan on one of the days Keegan became manager.

But due to the players we're left with there will be some still played out of position at times.
