2008/9 may have been his best season but "a few sporadic displays" is still a major exaggeration IMO. It's only really this season which has seen a serious falling-off in his contribution to the side.

I couldn't agree less. Last season was a disaster. We had no defence because we had to Play him. Everything from 2010 and forward has been underachieved and overrated.

The player that was Gerrard, the player that could carry us forward never came back after the injury In 09.

No non native player would ever have been able to get away with that level of performance for so long at top dollar.

someone posted a compilation of his best goals and it was remarkable how all of the exceptional goals was pre 2010. The past five years have been about the pass and the freekick. The pace and drive that made him stand out and be exceptional was lost with the injury.

Why only concentrate on his deficiencies last season?
And why ignore the countless counter attacks he started by giving pinpoint passes to our attackers? We won those games last season, often by being lethal on the break, most of which were started by Gerrard.
Would a good 'DM' have made those passes? No, an dm would have made a neat pass in his own half. There aren't too many Alonso's around in the world.
Gerrard was a major culprit for our defensive frailties last season, but so were a fuck load more players.

Well it was Everton and emotions are high with that game. He has some good points in his previous posts but that one was a total whopper.
