Here's a question...

Markovic injury wasnt that bad according to Rodgers last night. Back injury I think.

Gerrard will be up for this and last nights performance doesnt mean anything.
He should start and will start.
Not with Lucas but next to Coutinho in the advanced role.

As Piedro said, him not starting will also boost the Blueshite.

If Sturridge isn't fit and we still have a place alongside Coutinho then he might as well play instead of Lallana, because he's looked poor since coming back from injury.

The question is whether he'll be ready having just played 90 minutes in midweek. I think he might be on the bench.

The game at anfield last season made him in that role.

He was an absolute monster.

He always finds an extra 10% percent against Everton. Regardless, if he doesn't start they'll be fucking made up & get some extra confidence, they fucking hate him cos he's destroyed them so often.

He needs to be playing further up the pitch though.

I'd play him advanced as a psychological weapon

As the game progresses he can always come off for sturridge

He was poor last night, but it's the derby he'll be well up for it. Scored the opening goal in two of the last three derbies too and had assists at Goodison last season. I thought Sturridge looked rusty last night and might not be ready to start just yet. I'd play him further forward along side Coutinho behind Sterling.

Tough one, by any logical assessment you would have to say no, hes been average at best for a while now and he was quite poor against a Championship side the other night. On the other hand he was excellent against Everton earlier in the season and he always takes it up a level for the derby, this being the last he will ever play I can see him being well up for it. My preference would be let him come on for the last 30 minutes and do some damage rather than fade out of the game over 90 mins, but I think if he starts we will know half an hour in whether hes got the legs for it or not

He's surely got to start...hopefully in the more advanced role. Take him off after 75 minutes when we're 3-0 up.

Maybe Hendo at RWB and Lucas alongside Coutinho in midfield leaving room for Lallana-Sterling-Gerrard trio upfront?
Or is that midfield too light against Everton?
Anywho I think Studge should start and be withdrawn at half time after scoring a hattrick in 20 mins[emoji16]

He doesn't suit a high tempo team, England is another case in point. This is probably going to be the game with highest tempo of the season. So he definitely shouldn't play. I think Henderson now shows twice the passion he does to motivate the team, especially last night he was manic.

Excellent post. I'd only add that, if that last bit is what happens and the answer is that he hasn't, he'll need to come off, so that to me is another reason for not starting him. BTW I'm far from convinced that the blueslime will be glad if he doesn't start - they'll have seen his current form like everybody else.

Someone just sent me this. Depressing but I know it's time to move on. Of course he plays

Thats the risk unfortuantely, if he does look off the pace of the game it would be a shame to sub him off early and end his derby career on a sour note but at the same time its a competitive game not a testimonial so he either stays in the team on merit or he makes way. I cant see the logic of playing him further forward as some people have suggested because Sterling and Coutinho are better options there right now and it would smack of shoehorning him into the side.

He has been shoehorned for 4 years... Why stop now?

But I couldn't agree more with you.

2008/9 may have been his best season but "a few sporadic displays" is still a major exaggeration IMO. It's only really this season which has seen a serious falling-off in his contribution to the side.

It's such a shame... I really was hoping he would prove my doubts wrong.

I just wish that between Rodgers/Gerrard they'd have the class to take him our of contention.

I've no issue with him playing the full game yesterday. After 700 performances he deserved the chance to be a hero in his last derby.

Sentimentality does and should come into it. At least at times.

I'll have an issue if he plays as much for the rest of the season.
