Harvey

I don't think this is a game that has shown us anything new about Harvey.

He's at his best against tiring legs when he has more time to use his talent.

However, as a starter, he's always been average. He lacks pace - so cannot really beat a player (though he's very good in the press). He lacks physicality, so can be dominated in that aspect. He's not really comfortable in the 4-3-3.

I don't see how he can carve himself a career with Slot unless we change our formation to take advantage of his strengths.

If we get a bid of 20+ million from Fulham etc, he'll be gone imo. Think he'd do brilliantly in Spain.

Agreed apart from the last point.

I don’t think he’s brilliant enough to be brilliant anywhere. He’s a middle of the road player in any top league.

I think in the right system, he can be really good.
He's got a great work ethic, passes well etc - but he just cannot be expected to compete with the physicality needed by Slot's midfield.

He’s not Liverpool quality and never has been, that’s even when he’s played with the seniors. He’ll look ok at times if the rest of the players are at the top of the game.

The only thing he can do well is use his left foot create half a yard and put a teasing ball in.

Over 100 games, I think he’s reached his potential.

I like Elliott but dont think he's good enough to start for us. If he doesn't mind being a sub then fine but he can leave if any decent offers came in

Most importantly he lacks the technique. You gotta have something. David Silva is a midget his cousin Bernardo too. Didn't stop them from playing in midfield.

Unfortunately this is it I think.

He’s not even anywhere near the potential of a Shaqiri, who was never going to be a starter for us…but always had the capacity for a moment of brilliance (and was a little cube unit).

He dropped deep the last 15 mins today in order to have more influence and then proceeded to give the ball away against a knackered Plymouth side time and again.

He's done

It makes me sad as I've championed this lad for fucking years; but every chance he's been given this year he's just been poor.

I'm hoping he can turn it round but I just don't know if slot will give him the chance to

This is my position too.

Like other said, he’s a bench player at best. But when I list our bench options he struggles to make the list.

He's good enough to be a sub but not a starter. So his future depends on his ambition and what kind of offers we might receive.

Really love him but he's not taken the opportunities presented. It's hard to argue the point that he should be getting starts for a contending side.

When Mac Allister is out we can play Jones and have a similar(ish) performance. We need someone who we can interchange with Szobo when needed. That is not, and will never be, Harvey Elliott.

We should be ruthless and move him on in the summer, IMHO.

That's why I wanted us to sign another midfielder in January.

Jesus some pile on.

If we win today 1-0 and he scores everyone would be singing his praises.

He may not survive Slot but fuck me a bit of perspective for the lad is warranted here.

Ok - what part of what I wrote was unfair criticism of the player's weaknesses in general?

Does he lacks pace?
Does he lacks physicality?
Does he have an ideal place in the 4-3-3?

This is his biggest issue. Unless Slot is slowly going to move away from it he needs to leave for his own sake.

It was his arguably his worst ever game for us along with a few others.

We’ve played 4-3-3 the entire time he’s been at the club and he’s had many wonderful performances in that time and been a match winner on many an occasion.

The criticism is way over the top.

Everyone was shite bar a couple of players.

Of course, but he didn't and "our" criticism isn't based on one game. He was shite against Accrington and PSV as well.
Harvey has set a high bar for himself by declaring that he wants to be a starter.
He has in no way proved that.
Now compare his performances to that of Bradley. Same age, same-ish experience, one has excelled one hasn't really.
It's in these types of games he needs to show that he's better than everyone else.

Oh absolutely he was shite along with every other attacker and the focus will be on him as he have away a crazy peno. Maybe im alone in thinking he’s worth a place in the squad.

I've felt this about Harvey for years now - I don't think he's a bad player, it's why I think he can still have a really good career.
But he doesn't fit the 4-3-3.
That he had some great performances is great - so did Lucas, and Ryan Babel etc.
The bottom line is he's a REALLY good sub - but if he wants to do more, he should move on for the sake of his own career.

I agree if he wants to be a starter he should leave. I think he’ll be happy to be a squadie.

Yeah but the other players weren't shit in all of those games.

So he's not "The Boy" any more? *throws up in mouth a little*

I can't say I've ever been an Elliot champion. He's a decent player but as said, there doesn't seem to be an obvious path for him to take to kick on to the next level with his skill set.

In theory, I'd be fine with him staying as a squad player. He clearly loves the club and despite being here for a million years already, he's somehow still only 21. The problem is I'm not sure we can accommodate both him and Jones.

I'd be open to selling - assuming Hughes is actually working this summer and is willing to consider the novel idea of buying players - but 20M feels low.

It’s not just the 4-3-3 either for me….who here is clear on his position and in what set-up he would be a viable option for a top side?
Lets change it all around to suit Elliot.

Two strikers up front.
Elliot in the hole in a free role.
And the rest just standing around doing the defending for him

There is some youtube short where Gakpo is asked to describe each player that is called out like "Salah - " and he says "King" etc. He had an answer for nearly all our first team players- but seemed completely dumb-founded when Elliot was mentioned. He had no words for him.

Most of you are deluded if you think he has a future with us, I am glad that Slot is our manager and seeing that he has no place in his squad - sad but true. That is a cold way of looking at it - but you have to understand I have nothing against the player - I wish he had all the skill in the world that would make him a Slot player etc. because he is a fan of this club.

More or less this. We got 20m or so for Carvalho who has done less. It would take 30m or Harvey's clear intent to go to make me want to sell.

If he's content with his role as an impact sub, he's got a future here. But it's increasingly clear that he's not going to be Mo's successor or beating out either of Szobo or Jones for a midfield role.
