Harry Carpenter has died at the age of 84. A true great - i grew up listening to his commentaries on Sportsnight and his presentations of Sport's Personality. A distinctive, knowledgeable voice. "Get in there, Frank!"

He had this weird way of keeping his mouth half-closed when he spoke. For example he quite often commentated on a certain tennis tournament, the name of which came out as "Wmln" when he said it. Good at describing atmosphere and action though.
