Look, we've been moaning endlessly about how Rafa buys quantity over quality throughout his tenure. This transfer window represents a shift for Benitez; he finally feels he has the makings of a title winning squad and he's "fine tuning it". Now we're finally adding the quality we've been after and paying top fees for top players is something top clubs do; especially in today's market. Do we really want to run the risk of another Dossena? Thought not.
RB was a position we could have improved, or was one - at the very least - that needed cover.
We've done that. The fee? Well yes, it's extortionate but we don't know the full repercussions just yet, but I think it's highly unlikely that Benitez would sacrifice a good attacking player for Johnson - there will be significant amount of money remaining.
And lets not forget, 95% of people on this board rates Glen Johnson. Maybe not to the tune of 18M, granted, but it's a significant consensus and we have every right to expect big things.
In simple terms, he will seriously boost the attacking threat of our right-flank, and his defending will only improve under the guidance of Rafa, Cara and co.
I'm not on the edge of my seat, no where close. But we're landing a top player and I'm happy about it. Join me?

Yeh I'm happy about it. After all, he can't be any worse than Keane, who cost more. Pricey yes but a good buy IMO.
