IMO he is good player and will provide the movement rafa wants down the right flank, a la his valencia model, but for me Johnson is not a big improvement on Arbeloa and he is pretty fucking expensive at 18.5M... I find that baffling signing to be honest... at least at that price anyway...

Assuming we will now sell Arbeloa for 7 or 8M it still takes about half of our reported transfer budget. How much do they still owe us for crouch??

I rate Johnson so I'm happy if we get him.he's a step up on what we have, and what we have got us 2nd in the league so it'll obviously cost a lot to improve upon that.

Remember, we're not far off our rivals, the most marginal difference could bring us a few more points next season, and that's all we need. If we win the league next season 19m will seem like a bargain.

Ryan's Utd analogy is spot on, he got slated by fans and the press for that, but those signings, whilst not setting the world alight, have been integral to their success, very few would argue their fees haven't been worth it.

Arbeloa is rated at around 5-6mil. If we can get 8mil for him it'll be good. Are you going to add another 3 mil yourself?

I've always had a soft spot for Guiseppe Rossi too and it seems he's getting better and better. Scored for Italy last night and maybe he could be a darkhorse in this window where everyone seems to focus only on Tevez/Ribery/Benzema/Kaka/Ronaldo/Villa? Would be able to play on either wing, in the hole or as a forward and as a former Manc he's familiar with the intensity and pace of the Premiership.

Personally I wouldn't mind a cheap bid for Bentley either. I know a lot of posters now thinks he's crap but under the right circumstances I'm sure Rafa and Liverpool could get him back on track. Of course I'd prefer Silva and he could very much be on his way but in case we can't afford every player we want (shocka) I'd be tempted to go for the Spurs reject.

And then there's Kuba. I've got a hunch that he's very much a player that we're going to buy this window. He'd be a perferct foil for Kuyt on the right. And he'd even able to deputise at RB too.

sorry, I put that badly, a player is worth what he contributes to the team. carrick (for example) is definately worth 18 mil because he is a big factor in manu winning the league after he joined.

Johnson is an improvement on Arbeloa. Pace, crossing abiltity and movement. We're normally not on the back foot in games, so his attacking ability will improve us. I have no doubt about Carra and Rafa sorting out his defensive duties. He'll be fine.

Paying top dollar for an English international is nothing new, but it shouldnt matter if we pay a bit to much. The most important thing is getting our main transfer target for that position. Whats an extra 4 mill if we win the league? Fuck all.
Would we have been happy with some no name at a price to cut costs to 7 mill? No.
Arby has one year left on his contract and has been rumoured to be homesick. 8 mill would be a great sale.

The problem now is right back position is not the position we are so desperate of. Left wing YES. So to spend almost half of our transfer budget on one fucking right back is a waste of money. Might as well we sign a top quality left wing and a striker.

In our system it it. Johnson will give us the width and thrust on the flank that we lack with Dirk. As usual people get caught up in 'attacking playerz'/missing piece of the jigsaw cobblers and miss the bigger picture, although I'm sure a attacking midfielder is high up on Rafa's list of priorities.

when finnan first arrived he was poor, poor to the point rafa wanted rid and only an injury to finann in the transfer window stopped a potential sale. josemi came in and was utter utter shite, finann came in and gave consistant performance after consistant performance until he exceeded his fulham level and was the best right back in the league again. no one is going to tell me finann was class from day one. he patently wasn't.
