how can the first choice right back and the best right back at the club bar none (gerrard patently isn't going to play there ever again) not be concidered 'key'.
when someone else plays at right back (including the great carra) we are weaker, simple as.
Don't miss the chance to have a snide dig at Carra to back up your ever increasing desperate views.
you're far too sensitive about carra and wanting two fullbacks is hardly a 'desparate' view.
You're far too snidey about him. Too scouse for you?
What's that supposed to mean?
David?

Mummy?

I forget to add the <taking the piss> bit.

last word and then I'm done

a) we should have (at least) one top class player backed up by competant player (I've seen no evidence whatsoever darby can do a job at this present moment in time).
b) I can understand why rafa would sell arbeloa.
c) when you bring in a top class pro it shouldn't automatically mean the current incumbent should immediately make way.
d) come august we will be competing for four cups (FOUR).
e) we have a weaker squad than manu and chelsea (our main rivals) replacing like for like isn't closing that gap its improving the first team and you're back to square one if there are injuries. you're improving your ability to win games but leaving yourself open to sustained injuries.

in closing I want johnson to join even for the amount qouted, (we're a football team not accountants leave the numbers to the manager) but still I want arbeloa to stay because I don't trust our ability to keep everyone fit and there is also mental fatigue to consider if (as we hope) we remain in all four competitions.

Ahhhh right. I just wanted to check, as you see we get this right mental fucker coming on here every now and then and that's the sort of thing he'd come out with. Just wanted to make sure you weren't him. As you were.

Not too fussed about Arbeloa really. He's steady, can do a job but if he wants to go and we can get a decent fee then getting a replacement shouldn't be that difficult.

Not too keen on Johnson as a person but as a player he's quite good.

As long as we are not losing out financially then its not a situation worth getting upset over is it? Exchanging one decent enough full back for another one?
Yeah, but it's what SpiderNeil wants that counts. Plus Arby is a top pro...and not scouse.

Hmm, that article contradicts everything else written about this transfer.

After his comments, I'll be very surprised if he returns to Chelsea.

Just to satisfy my curiosity: You wouldn't condone allowing Arebloa's contract to run down so he can leave on a free next summer, would you? Not if, say, £8-10m could be made from his sale this season, for instance?

I'd offer him a three year contract and sell if he refused to sign as we should do with every member of the squad barring the ones we patently want to sell.

Having 2 really good right backs wouldn't be closing the gap either though would it?

I would be happy enough if we kept Arbeloa, and I would be happy enough if we sold him and replaced him with Johnson. If we ended up with both I would consider it a waste of money.

Obviously in an ideal World one would want 2 top class players for each position who fully accept that they share the roles and a squad that is so used to playing together that any one can slot in when required at any time, but in reality its not like that is it? And while we are lacking cover up front and in the midfield it hardly makes sense to go for the 'ideal' at right back!

you close the gap by adding quality and retaining quality.
carra skrtel agger arbeloa inusa aureloa imho would give us the best pool of defenders in the league. you could argue selling arbeloa wouldn't make a difference but we'd still be one injury away from utilising a center back in a wide area.

He wasn't criticising Chelski - just pointing out that footballers want to play football. If he went back there now (especially for £17m) I think it's pretty certain that he'd be first-choice.

I don't understand why Chelsea are replacing Bosingwa. He's had a very good first season.

Wont be the first time the fuckers spend close to 20 million pounds and completely forget about the player when it comes to match day.

They are weird like that.

Yeah, its strange that they want to replace Bosingwa. He's been very good this season, and wasnt a position they needed to improve over the summer. Cant see him going to Bayern either.

Hopefully Johnson will sign for us.

All their Portuguese players seem to be leaving. Deco and Carvalho to Inter, and Bosingwa perhaps to Bayern. I don't know why exactly, but I doubt it's a coincidence, given that Scolari was sacked last season.

Deco's the only one I fully understand.

Alex has had a strong season but Cavalho's a cut above.

They're loss.

Carvalho when fully fit is in the top three defenders in the league. I certainly think he is better than terry.
