*goes to lurk on TLW*

very good move, if we are still getting rid in the summer. meh, still pretty good if we haven't lined up a replacement or still haven't found one come Aug 31st.

I'd like to withdraw my numerous comments about how a Director of Football would mean we would make less blatantly stupid decisions.

I've bookmarked the thread.

He hasn't appeared yet.

Wow that's fast. Just a couple of days ago, it seemed like there wasn't any action being taken in this area. Then bang, he's signed a new contract.

I like how the new old motto is "more do, less yak".

I doubt he'll turn up, he's probably jumped off a bridge.

I was firmly in that camp as well, but elaborate for me, what would have been the optimal decision in this instance? Letting him go this summer for 4-5m pounds cause he has a year left on his contract, or "protecting his value" as some have said? Or a third option? Let us into the mind of Ross.

'It was an easy decision to make'

Lucas Leiva today spoke of his delight after committing his future to Liverpool.

After news broke that the Brazilian midfielder has signed a new long-term contract with the Reds, the 24-year old immediately turned his sights towards helping the Reds re-establish themselves as a force in English and European football.

"For me it was an easy decision because I know how big Liverpool is and I can see Liverpool are committed to me and are planning for a future with me," he told Liverpoolfc.tv. "The effort from the club was amazing and that makes me feel an important player. That's why it was an easy decision.

"I am really, really happy. The last few weeks have been really good for me and now I have signed a new contract and can spend more years at Liverpool I will do my best all the time and try to help the club to be bigger and bigger, if that's possible.

"Everyone wants to be in the Champions League again and to win titles. That is what Liverpool is about. The way everything is going I think it will be a very good next few seasons.

"We have some new players who have come here and that shows we are moving in the right direction. I am pleased with the way Liverpool tried to keep me and now I want to keep doing my best for them.

"I don't think people thought I could stay here for so long, but now I want to just keep on improving."

Fair play, the lad says the right things and his attitude is brilliant. I just wish he was better at the football.

i honestly hope he's here til he retires. I like players who come from abroad and play for a club for a long time. yes he may never be the best, but the lad obviously cares

I just clicked on the link to watch Lucas sign his contract, and shockwave crashed and refused to let me watch it.

It knows me too well.

a bit disconcerting, doesn't sound like we have selling him in mind

This is frustrating. I was hoping we'd sell him on.
He never gets injured either so we're stuck looking at him week in week or for years and years!

Think he'll improve even more as we continue to build a new team. He won't start 50 odd games next season though.

Great more mediocrity and cheap fouls for many years to come!

Hey they're not cheap fouls. Apparently they'll be costing us £80,000 a week.
