Back when kenny last managed us, what was our approach to pre season? I was too young to remember anything but pivotal games really.

Can't remember either but according to lfchistory we always played pretty much the 1st team. Mind you, squads were smaller then

Re: Galatasaray (A)

Im not pointing my finger soley at Kenny though. When we made these plans post season, I imagine we thought far more would have been sold and a few more signed. We also have Gerrard, Johnson, Meireles, Reina, Skrtel and Agger injured. And missing Lucas and Suarez.

The game tonight was surley about the fee recieved for turning up, cause it did very little in terms of prepping the team for Sunderland 13th of august.

Im just not comfortable playing Poulsen, Insua, Degen, Ngog all through pre season when shouldnt even be here or will feature much when the season starts.

Re: Galatasaray (A)

Very true, you will get the usual people saying it will be alright on the night but it isnt just the defeats, its the leaky defence that is a worry again some of the pub teams we have played before this one.

Its omnious that the last few seasons we've had a good league start, we've been pretty good in pre season.
This year we've been shite, and it reminds me to much of Rafas last season in charge. I E losing 3-0 to Espanyol, and fielding make shift 11s every game.
3 goals conceded in average after 4 pre season friendlies is just not good enough.

I just hope we can get two good results and play some decent footy in our last two games, or else I think we very well can start quite poorly.
Watching Utd play pretty good football in the States doesnt help either.

Its not knee jerk, Im just getting a bit concerned.

Re: Galatasaray (A)

I get we have players that are shit, I get that, what I don't get is why we don't seem to be able to play in a competent manner when certain individuals aren't playing. they are footballers, right? we should be able to field ANY 11 players that have taken their game to a proffesional level and those players should be able to competently pass to their teams mates, right? what do they do in training ffs?

Re: Galatasaray (A)

You field a team with Poulsen, Insua and Degen and you're already playing with a disvantage. The Greek is shite when the ball isnt in the air, and some of these players just dont have the mentality or quality to play in our team. Watching Baros just push Poulsen aside to score is just such a good example of not giving 100 % all the time.

Anyhoo, fuck this. I have to get pissed on monday if we play as badly when we play in Oslo. Loads of my mates are Vålerenga fans..

We desperatly need a new cb and lb.

Aldo: "There are some positives to take out of the game; I thought Joe Cole impressed."

WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU WATCHING.

So we fielded the shittest team we have, and we played like shit.

Great.

Milan Baros admitted he was delighted to net a brace for Galatasaray during Liverpool's 3-0 defeat in Istanbul on Thursday night - but insisted the Reds will always retain a special place in his heart.

The Czech forward struck twice in the first half at the Turk Telekom Arena as Kenny Dalglish's side slipped to defeat.

However, having made 108 appearances for Liverpool between 2001 and 2005 and featured in the Champions League final victory in Istanbul, Baros remains an enthusiastic follower of our fortunes.

"It is always nice to play against a team who you have played for. I was happy I scored and I think we played well," the striker told Liverpoolfc.tv. "I wish Liverpool all the best for the season.

"This is my fourth season here at Galatasaray and I am really happy. We didn't play well last season, but now we've signed some good players and I hope it's going to be better than last year.

"Of course I still look out for Liverpool's results. I always follow them because I am a big supporter of Liverpool. I spent three and a half years there and won the Champions League.

"I think it (the Champions League final) is the greatest game I have ever played in. Especially when we were 3-0 down at half-time and still managed to win. It was a special night and I think it was my best night in my football career.

"Liverpool will always stay in my heart. I hope they are going to play better than last year and they'll be closer to the top four and play for the title."

Baros has been impressed with Liverpool's resurgence under Dalglish - and he is confident the club's summer transfer dealings will see them challenging for the game's top honours in 2011-12.

He added: "The new signings add more quality to the team. The English league is very tough, but if everyone is going to be fit like Stevie G, Carra and all of the new players, I think they have a chance to be back up there."

One man in particular who has caught Baros's eye has been Luis Suarez.

The Uruguay striker made a seamless transition into English football following his January transfer to Anfield from Ajax - but Baros reckons there is more to come.

"You saw him at Ajax and for the national team and it was clear he had quality," he said. "He is a great player and is still young, so he can still improve. I think he will be a great player in Liverpool's future."

Only a handful of Liverpool fans made the journey to Istanbul for the friendly with Galatasaray on Thursday, though Baros is dreaming of a return to Anfield and a chance to come face-to-face with the Kop once more.

He said: "Liverpool fans have always been nice to me. I hope I can come back to Anfield one time and I can clap the fans. I hope they will be happy with the players, the team and the results and they will enjoy trophies again."

Did extremely well. Don't think he was involved in any of the goals.
Great technique, kept the ball, great passing...genuine captain.
