The FAI are now demanding a rematch, they are using this as an example to get the match replayed. Its getting embarrassing referees make mistake I wish they would accept it and move on.
FIFA confirmed today that the result of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germanyâ„¢ qualifying match between Uzbekistan and Bahrain on 3 September 2005 has been declared invalid and must be replayed. In order to respect the drawn order of the matches, the first leg is to be replayed in Uzbekistan on 8 October 2005, with the second leg match to be rescheduled for 12 October 2005 in Bahrain.
The decision was taken by the Bureau of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germanyâ„¢ Organising Committee following a formal protest from the Uzbekistan Football Federation concerning a technical error by the referee of the match.
According to Art. 12.4 (b) and 14.1 of the Regulations for the 2006 FIFA World Cupâ„¢, all protests, including those against technical errors committed by referees, are to be decided by the Organising Committee for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germanyâ„¢. A bureau of the Organising Committee may pass a decision in lieu of the plenary committee in urgent matters.
The Bureau, composed of Chairman Lennart Johansson, Deputy Chairman Julio Grondona, Dr Chung Mong Joon and FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi, took the decision based on the following facts:

No need for any windups whatsoever, that was a fucking disgraceful piece of cheating yesterday and Ireland deserved to go through its that simple.

Why shouldn't the match be replayed? There's plenty of time, and no one is disputing that it was a deliberate handball and the goal should not have been awarded. They should play a one-off match on neutral territory IMO.

They should but they wont. Fifa have got what they wanted they wont risk it again.
The funny thing is up until the goal I actually thought the ref had done a good job. He didnt take any messing from the French lads, told them to get on with it when they were rolling around looking for free kicks and made a very brave call for the penalty incident with Anelka I think more often than not that would have been given to the home side.

I thought the referee had a reasonably good game too. I have no doubt that if he had seen the handball he would have disallowed the goal.
The person I blame most is the assistant. Not only did he miss the handball but he also missed two offsides in the same move.

Not just because of that. You cannot replay just because the ref missed something. The other case was very different. The ref saw the infringement, but he was just an idiot and gave the completely wrong punishment for it.

One is the good natured banter between Irish and non Irish fans. Thats good fun and Im all for it. It happens all the time and as you rightly point out, what goes around comes around.
The other part is the underlying anti Irish thing that certain (a minority thankfully) individuals have. If someone says that they hate or dislike the Irish as a generalisation, I as an Irishman find that offensive. I dont care if they qualify it by saying its not real hate or dislike.
I dont have any problem whatsoever in a non Irish fan supporting France last night. Its entirely their choice. However, when they say they support France because they dislike or hate the Irish, then I find that insulting.

I like the Irish in General, just not the majority on here, or the IRA for that matter! I dont have a racist bone in me, BUT I hate anything even slightly PC & love to play devils advocate. I would be quite happy for my son to marry a 'Darkie' or my Daughter (not my son to marry my daughter.....), I've dated Sri Lankans and Indians in the past.
