The disappointment will subside over time, the anger over what Henry did might take a touch longer. I've had enough of this "he did what he did to get his side to South-Africa" shite. He, and all footballers for that matter, aren't fucking robots. They're not fucking well programmed to cheat, and defy all known morals. He made a conscious decision to cheat and handle that ball. Fair enough, others have done it in the past and will continue to get away with it in the future. To fucking run away celebrating, to smile like that after the final whistle, and to lie about not meaning to intentionally handle it fucking hurts though. You know you're a cheat Henry. There's a difference between doing what's required to get your team through, and then not having the fucking balls to fucking own up to it afterwards.
Henry, for the rest of my life, I'll look upon you as a cheating, lying cunt. It'll mean little to him, but he's lost the respect of me and many many others tonight. It's not just Irish fans, but every right-minded football fan should be appalled by that. At least Fowler had the good grace to admit he dived.
The performances of Andrews, Whelan, St. Ledger, Liam fucking Lawrence, Doyle, and the quite fantastic Duff merited so much more.
Yes, we should have buried them, yes we had chances, and yes the game shouldn't have gone to extra time. But there is solace to be taken in the fact that it took two cuntish goals to beat us, because over 210 minutes, the cream of French Football couldn't create one chance against us. There is also solace to be taken in the pride of supporting Ireland again. For there's been fuck all of it to shout about for a long long time. That performance tonight has reawoken the pride, satisfaction, poy and pain that your Country could and should give you in me. I'd forgotten it even existed to be honest. Years of hurt, shit, and fucking rubbish offered up by a collection of under-achievers. We've lost tonight, but we've gained so so much. If anything, we've restored a tiny bit of pride to Irish football.
I know the joy the World Cup would have brought to me and many others, but I take immense satisfaction in being able to look at that image of Duff above and still be immensely proud. I doubt any French supporter could look at the picture of Henry and feel the same way.

Superb post Ryan.
Totally devastating way to lose especially having played so well. Henry can go fuck himself. The only plus is that there are real signs of progress now under Trap and I know he's not a young man but hopefully he will stay around long enough for the Euro's and one more tilt at the World Cup.

Told you it would end in heroic failure.
