Rafael should leave now before taking us further down. Or the Yanks should sack him and Sammy with King Kenny to take over until next summer.
Great solution Glock. Maybe you could take over Sammy Lee's role?

Sammy and Kenny should replace him for the rest of this season and we should start building towards next year.

If we lose to both Lyon and United then it's game over for him. We're already out of the title race, unless we beat Lyon twice then we're out of the CL as well.

BELM.

Rafa seems to be going bit stale maybe time for a shake up.

I'm reading 'Carra' at the moment, and he said Mourinho had the liverpool crest as his screen saver on his phone cos he is a fan.

He may be a massive cunt, but he wins titles, and at 18-all thats all that matter now.

Besides, it would be different cos hed be OUR cunt.

I think he would be amazing.

Carra seems very knowledgable how about Carra as player/manager?

Maybe install Dalglish as caretaker manager til end of season and see how it goes, if hes still up to it give it to him full time. Carra as his number 2.

Torres is good friends with Kenny now too. I think it would be great to see Kenny in the Dugout, he always regret quiting and 20 years later its about time he return to knock fergie off his fucking perch.

Yup exactly. Lets all hope now Rafael save whatever he has now and pack his bag to Spain.

The King would be fine on a temporary basis if we needed a caretaker manager, but not as a permanent appointment IMO. We'd be forever wondering if he'd be able to take the pressure and, more to the point, so would the players. I'd also wonder about appointing anyone who'd been away from the football front line for that long.

I'd go hell for leather to fetch Hiddink in, especially after seeing how well he performed for the Chavs and how quickly he did it.
If it does come to that, I've got a feeling that we could do a lot worse than Steve Nicol, being mentored by The King.

He's learned the ropes very well over here, and might be the breath of fresh air / link to the past that people would respect that many think we're crying out for.
That's terrifying.

He did, but it hasn't stopped him doing very well over in New England. With all due respect to Whaddapie (my oldest friend on here) though, I can't see that translating straight over to the top of the Prem.

I'd keep an eye on Roberto Martinez at Wigan, he might develop into a very good manager.

I can't believe that we are actually having this discussion, for so many reasons.

Stevie Nicol. He's in search of an elusive Major League Soccer Cup. Its trophy is even ridiculous looking. 8 out of the 15 total clubs in this league compete for it.

I thought it was some tongue in cheek thought experiment, but it seems many think its high time to begin the process of looking for some replacement manager. I find this staggering, not because I'm shocked people would want him gone, but because no one seems to realize why, pending some absolute catastrophe, this simply isn't going to happen. If we got rid of Rafa tomorrow, what would our sales pitch be?

"Hi, we're seeking a new manager, he must be an experienced manager capable of immediate success in the premiership, as well as challenging in Europe. For our part, we can offer job security. For instance, if he mounts a more credible challenge than anyone in recent memory, the following transfer market we'll offer him no money and sack him after a 7-5 start. He'll also enjoy working with two owners, who don't speak to each other, who occasionally will undermine him in public, and will chiefly and publicly be concerned with selling the club, all the while attempting to make sure their penis appears larger than the others.

Oh, and his transfer kitty, we'll be prepared to offer him nothing, as we did last summer, only this time it's because we are paying off the former manager's contract. He will also walk into a situation poisoned by open animosity between the supporters, who, while not entirely united behind Rafa, generally prefer his stability to any decision made by the owners, and many of which blame virtually everything, including on field performances on the owners. Protests, prompted by Rafa's sacking, are now far more vociferous and well attended."

As rage says though, we're liverpool, and we'll have queues of managers lining up simply because of that fact. It's too bad they would be of the caliber of the absurd suggestions made in threads like this, because no one in their right mind who had competition from other clubs in need of a rare top class manager would touch the above situation with Igor Biscan's dick, let alone one we could reasonably expect to deliver better results than rafa.

Get real people.

Reading this thread, one might get the impression that Rafa is a really, really shit manager.

That, or there are many really, really stupid people around.

out of curiosity what was wenger's record before he came to arsenal? didn't they pick him out of some japanese league? was he successful before then?

No one is saying he's a shit manager. It's exactly the same as the Houllier situation. The turn against the manager started slowly and then all of a sudden there was a surge and the majority wanted him out. Same thing is happening with Rafa. He's already failed to deliver the title for the 6th season in a row and we're looking like Europa league contenders for the next two seasons under him.

Sammy still have a lot to learn as well as Nicol. That is why we have King Kenny on as well. To guide them until we get a new capable manager in charged. That's not that hard to understand.

I love this story Kenny tells:

"I will never forget Steve Nicol's arrival in October 1981. Until then, the three Scots already at Anfield, Al, Graeme and me had been pretty well able to look after ourselves. We had built up an understanding that the Scots were the master race. We would quote historical facts to the English players to prove it. Some of the most important inventions and discoveries in the world came from from Scots, like television, the telephone, penicillin, the steam engine and tarmac. Their names are part of history - John Logie Baird, Alexander Graham Bell, Alexander Fleming, James Watt. Not to mention those other wonders of the world, golf and whisky.

Per heads of population, the Scots are the most educated race in the world. We did well defending ourselves and, and flying the flag of Scottish supremacy, until Nicol came. Everything we had built up, he destroyed in 10 minutes because of the photograph that was taken of him when he signed. There he was with a tammy on, a silly Liverpool scarf and sillier grin. Unbelievable. Stevie was a lovely guy, a real one-off. He made a great contribution to the success of Liverpool. We nicknamed him Chico after one of the Marx brothers."

Interesting post as per, and I wouldn't disagree with too much in it, but I do question some of the assumptions behind it:

1. Not all of us thinking about this expect Rafa to be gone any time soon. In fact I doubt that applies to more than a small minority, of which I am not a member.

2. However, the idea that there's no point even considering it is IMO untenable. I for one have supported Rafa through all his various "alarums and excursions" so far, and I'm not going to throw that overboard at the drop of two points, but questions have to be asked about where the team and the squad stand overall when we start the manager's sixth season the way we have.

3. I'm sure it's true that some of the managers good enough to be considered for the job wouldn't want it against the background you describe. I'm a lot less certain than you that none of them would. For example, my bet is that Mourinho would be vain enough at least to consider it (and his record gives him reason to be so). No-one joining a big Serie A club when he did could imagine they were in for an easy ride.

Yep. The original idea is way too far-fetched.

Mourinho (would leave Inter to join us)
Capello (said England would be his last job but what happens in WC might change his mind)
Hitzfeld (He's our national manager an djust signed an extension, again WC could change the plans, proven at highest level)
Hiddink (available and did a good job at Chelsea)
