For all the "but who do you replace him with?" merchants...

5 months after guiding liverpool a second place finish and their highest points tally since they last one the league, people are drawing up their lists of who to take over...8 games into the season.

I'd keep an eye on Roberto Martinez at Wigan, he might develop into a very good manager.
He's certainly worth a watching brief. Instantly successful playing attractive football at Swansea and an excellent start to a difficult job at asset-stripped Wigan. I'd not be adverse to him in time.

Of course, I'm perfectly happy with Rafa at the moment, even if Glock/Rage isn't.

You have a talent, bordering on genius, for over-simplification. Results in those 8 games have been poor enough to see our title chances hanging by a thread already, with even squads like Sunderland's or Tottenham's looking stronger than our own. While that's far from being Rafa's fault alone, there's still a real question over whether we ought to be on the fringe (at best) of the title race in his sixth year in charge.

Some of the suggestions in this thread truly make you cringe. I think my eyes bleed.

Id agree with that...some folk on here have their heads permenantly stuck up their arses......Steve Nicol...like come the fuck on, if he hadnt played for the club he wouldnt even be thought of. Next they'll be talking about Steve 'cornflake' Staunton!!

Oh fuck off with your needless insults. ALL of you.

a) It's just a thought to get some discussion going, and

b) If Kenny hadn't played for the club, would he have been offered the role in 1985? And wasn't he mentored by a living legend with past managerial experience.

I never said I wanted it, or that there weren't better options, ffs - I said it was a possibility, and it's not necessarily as mental as some names that we've heard bandied about for the role in the past.

But continue, all of you.

Feel free to stop fucking reading it then.

Listen Degser, Stevie Nicol is crazy, I can't believe you want him to be our manager.

It's the worst suggestion ever man!

Reading this thread, one might get the impression that Rafa is a really, really shit manager.

That, or there are many really, really stupid people around.
No one is saying he's a shit manager. It's exactly the same as the Houllier situation. The turn against the manager started slowly and then all of a sudden there was a surge and the majority wanted him out. Same thing is happening with Rafa. He's already failed to deliver the title for the 6th season in a row and we're looking like Europa league contenders for the next two seasons under him.
Yeah Glock, as usual, you're right. Suggestions of Steve Nicol, Sammy Lee, etc. as better options do not in any way suggest that Rafa's ability is under rated.
Sammy still have a lot to learn as well as Nicol. That is why we have King Kenny on as well. To guide them until we get a new capable manager in charged. That's not that hard to understand.
Why would we need them to guide us until Rafa is replaced? Why not leave Rafa in place until then.
Because it is very simple young man, because Rafael will bring us further down!!! !! !!
Right... so that doesn't imply that Sammy Lee and Steve Nicol are better?
Not better. Just alternatives.

But, please, carry on ranting.

In the interests of balance:

From yesterday's press conference:

"When you repeat a lie a lot of times, it becomes true," said Benítez, smiling. "I have a lot of conversations with the players, as individuals and in groups, about positives and negatives.

"We have normal conversations, but I suppose they have to sell books, and to do that you have to write something If they do well, I say well done. I have said that hundreds of times, especially when we win. You cannot be close friends, because you have to make decisions. But the relationship is not bad.

"I was surprised with Fernando saying what he did in his book. It's true I spoke to him about the goal [in last season's 2-0 victory] against Chelsea, but it is a different situation in the dressing room.

"I offered him my congratulations about the baby, but I suppose you have to sell books."

He also said "Gerrard wanted to talk about the negatives of his play but I said, 'No: let's concentrate on the positives".

Don't shoot me down here lads but wouldn't Bono make a great manager? He's a cool guy, likes to help people in need, gets along famously with Americans, knows how to get people top give him money and think of all the fans we'll have in Africa!!
Haha. Great suggestion. He could get Bob "gimme the fuckin' money now" Geldof in as assistant to help him negotiate his transfer budget with the owners

He's a bluenose, mate. Was a good enough youth player to have had a trial for them.
