What did everyone think of Agger's distribution and passing?
His considering he was most of our creativity from back there he's clearly not back on form yet, but it was a joy to have.

He actually dribbled it past their midfield three times, about 2 more times more than our midfield did. When its this shit you take what you can get. He has at least added some stablility and abilitiy to our defense since he has come back.

He had a fucking nightmare against Sunderland. Is about as a fit as Ross, should have been sent off last night, gave the ball away more times than I could count, and was partly at fault for the goal.

"stability" my drippy bellend.

It was an away performance in the CL and we created enough chances to win the game comfortably. It was poor finishing that cost us not Lucas' or Mascherano's performance. Yes, we lack creativity in the centre of the park, but that wasn't really the issue today. We should have scored two or three.
I dont think we should have won by 2-3 on the balance of that game, the chances we had were half chances that most goalies would save

it was the passing sideways and backwards that killed us going forward, just not enough quality and we pesisted with it all game so no surprise we came away with a draw. I actually thought we'd lose it 1-0 at one point. we rely too much on converting half chances and someone to hit a 30 yard screamer rather than putting some good moves together and finishing them off... couple that with dodgy defending and it's the reason we lose so much
Torres chance in the first half was a good one. He'd normally bury those. Voronin had a one-on-one with the keeper. Are you calling that a 'half-chance'? Lucas had an excellent opportunity in the second half saved by the keeper. Babel should have done better with his opportunity just before their goal. There were one or two other good shouts too.

You don't expect to steam-roller teams away in the Champions League. It was an otherwise solid away performance let down by some poor finishing in the first instance, and some poor defending in the second.
Spot on. At least one of the Lucas or Veronin chances should have been buried. And honestly, probably both.

Lucas' was at a tighter angle, he struck it ok, and the keeper made a good save.

Vornonin's effort though was fucking balls. Through one-on-one, the ball sitting up like a pert pair of norks, and the bag of cunt just side-foots it at the keepers feet. He may as well have swung his cock at it for all the use his strike was.

His defending on the other hand was way better than what Carragher and Skrtel have shown us so far this season.

Of course, cos he was clearly at fault.

Clearly.

Hugely unlucky but we had enough chances to bury Lyon. The lack of confidence showed despite us dominating the game. So much for BMT! The lads need to roll up their sleeves. The situation is diabolical.

I mentioned in the match thread that is long passing is shocking. He really needs to keep that to a minimum. I can understand it when he's under pressure and needs to clear his lines but it's when he looks up, in space, and just boots it to their keeper/defender that really hacks me off.

On the plus side, he is excellent at bringing it out of defence and making the occasional forward run. That little one-two on the left wing was lovely. If the cross had been better, he could have picked up an assist.

Much like Babel, I think we saw the best and worst of him last night.

Funnily enough, how many goals have we conceded in his three starts? A wee bit better average than Carra and Skrtel eh?

A draw was unfair? Oh Dear!

Babel's goal was a moment of sheer brilliance. His free kick minutes later was just comical.

A draw was probably a fair result. Neither team played well. Agger was class tonight, and Carragher had his first decent game at Right Back in about 6 years.

Torres was clearly not fit to play. He's going to need surgery, we can prob say goodbye to him for the next 6-8 weeks. Same with Gerrard. If they had been let comeback slowly in the first place they wouldn't be needing surgery.

Wonder what excuse we'll hear for tonights result. Injuries probably. Ignoring the fact that Lyon were missing a couple of starters and then lost two players in the first half through injury.

HE FUCKING BOOTED IT TO NO ONE FOR THE BEST PART OF 90 MINUTES.
That's not strictly true. He looked up, measured his pass and then got it wrong. As myself and Wizardry said a couple years ago - his long passing is not great.

All in all though, I thought he had a good game.
Me too. Ryan has to have an 'against the grain' scapegoat.
Its historically been Mascherano, but hes been so fucking good of late that he's moved on to Agger.
Expect this anti-Agger campaign to continue regardless of form or evidence.
So vey controvershal dahling!

He should cut it ala Lucas. If you playing shit and probably are shit (in Voronin's case) then why draw attention to yourself. It's like being shit player yet wearing white fucking boots.

Except worse.

Much worse.

White boots are considered acceptable these days.

I though Agger was great last night.

*shrugs*
I thought he was middling. He won most of his physical battles, which he hasn't always done before, and made a couple of smart-looking forward runs. As against that, he didn't seem able to win a tackle cleanly on the night and his distribution was wayward as usual. It's no use being a stylish mover with the ball, as Agger has always been, if (a) it ultimately comes to nothing and (b) you're not getting the basics right to begin with.

I guess the lack of post-game threads filled with kneejerk, rage, and bollocks are as a result of most people recognising we were wildly unlucky, yes?
I'm too disappointed to be angry. You wrote a good post but this loss could be devastating for the future of our team - financially and player wise. I just hope the football gods show some mercy on us this weekend.
This much we know. We are out of another challenge. Leaving us with FA and E Cups.

How depressing. How much more bad runs can we stomach...
We ARE still in with a shout of the league Y. If anything, being knocked out tonight has reinforced my belief that we'll turn it round in the Premiership.
I was thinking that way earlier, and then was reminded of the possibility of us dropping down into that other shite league/cup, which still means more games.

If that does happen it'll be interesting to see where the club decides its priorities lie, hence what kind of side Rafa puts out.

As has been mentioned already, if we drop in to the Europa cup I'd be quite happy for Rafa to give the reserves a run at it.
