Agger's easily the best passer of the ball in the backline.

I know a few of the prominent posters on here has been ridiculing his abilities as some sort of 'counter'argument' to the ones who think he should be a definite starter. But the fact is, he offers a lot more than any other central defender in our squad whether you like it or not - amongst other abilities his eye for the long defense-shredding pass.

That said most of his passes in the Lyon game was rather awful, but he was obviously struggling along the rest of the team to create anything as most of our players were extremely stationary, and then he got a little desperate.

He was however defending rather well and besides their rather lucky goal they almost didn't get a sniff thoughout the game. Very much as the case was in the United game. If anyone still questions his impact they are certainly refusing to see the obvious. Agger is probably our best defender overall and should therefore play every game he's fit

All 10 games a year.

*Fingers crossed his back injuries are now left behind for good as he's such an important figure in our side. And the only one capable of turning defense into attack on a more regular basis. That's rather obvious.

I can't be arsed reading the whole thread but we weren't unlucky. We were wasteful and guilty of poor finishing. That's not down to luck it's down to having shit players. The only piece of poor luck we had was the keepers save from Lucas.

In a nutshell right there.

sure we can run down the list of players and put - 'fucking SHITE' besides their names but that same group of players (plus alonso and sami/minus of aqualini and johnson) secured second place in the league just last season. how was that achieved?

a) the rest of the league were rubbish
b) the players aren't as bad as suggested
c) the team was carried by alonso, gerrard and torres (the latter two being injuried for periods in the season).
[/quote]

Alonso's role was key so ya replacing a great passer with Lucas was the first of many mistakes this sesaon.

We did however still manage to draw shitloads with Alonso playing.

it was nice to see him pop in the box and have a shot, he's learning and should be told to do it more. I wonder why he never picks it up and has a crack, he has the ability but is either afraid or is told not to. Mascherano often has a crack despite being rubbish at it

Indeed, but we were very hard to beat. Not so anymore. I said it last season and this. We needed either real pace out wide or another world beater up front. We got Keane and even though he'e no world beater if he had been backed and played in a 442 week in week out we could have done it.

Rafa didn't think so and instead we came up short in the final creative third.
