Liverpool chasing AS Roma starlet Fabio Borini

Liverpool appears to be chasing after young Italian international starlet Fabio Borini according to TalkSport. Reports have indicated that the Reds in fact tried to sign Borini last summer but he opted to return to his home nation of Italy after spending the last years of his academy training at Chelsea.

However, during his time at Chelsea when he was younger, he struck a bond with now Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. That relationship could come full circle if Rodgers decides to try and sign the currently co-owned AS Roma and Parma FC star.

Borini already has made his English Premier League debut with Chelsea which happened during the 2009-10 season against Tottenham. The young Italian also spent all of the 2010-11 season on-loan to Swansea City under Rodgers as he led the club to promotion.

The player’s agent, Marco Di Marchi was quoted in regards to a potential move by Borini this summer:
I am waiting for a call from Parma and Roma to know the intentions of the two clubs.
We will evaluate every proposal and choose the best option for Fabio.
However, Borini’s comments in regards to Rodgers indicate that he could very well be tempted if Liverpool comes to call:
Brendan Rodgers is a good manager and a great person who knows me very well.
He is like an uncle because he helped me a lot when I was at Chelsea.
Rodgers is looking to build a long term project at Anfield and bringing in players like Borini that are young and can grow into the system and flourish is a main objective. Borini’s experience also shows he will be a player that is ready for the expectations of a club such as Liverpool after his time with two of the World’s biggest clubs in Chelsea and AS Roma.

a. Is he any good?
b. We're bound to be surrounded by rumors linking to ex-Chelsea players this summer aren't we?

I know. Ow a chelsea fan who was devastated when they lost him. Heard he's meant to be strong and clinical.

In the euro squad so he's not going to be dead shit us he?

You're just happy he's called 'Fabio'.

Nah he's meant to be quite good. Thats a come and get me Brendan plea if ever I saw one. Obviously likes working with him and spent some time at Swansea on loan. It's good to see what respect players like Sigurdsson and Borini who've played for Rodgers have for him. Thats a good sign

I'd have borini, did well at Roma by all accounts, and is young

*waits for themn*

This thread needs ROOPY.

lol...

Decent player ... did well towards the end of the season with Roma, chipped in with some crucial goals.

He's an exciting prospect, but need to see it over the course of the season before I'd go signing him ...

His style reminds me a lot of Totti when he first burst onto the scene ... very composed on the ball.

Would be an interesting signing ... had this been the Liverpool of the past few seasons linked with, then it would be a complete waste of a signing because our style was too direct ... but if Rodgers can get us playing the way he desires, then Borini looks to have all the qualities to succeed.

Italian international striker Borini was snapped up on a free transfer by Parma and immediately handed to Roma in a co-ownership agreement, but his future is still up in the air.

“There’s nothing to say Borini won’t stay in Parma,” added Ghirardi.

“Roma have to understand whether or not they really want the player, especially as he has received other proposals.

Along with the Giallorossi, we’ve heard from a couple of overseas clubs and we have to think about getting the best value for Parma.

LIVERPOOL are lining up a £9.5million bid for former Chelsea striker Fabio Borini, according to reports.

The 21-year-old is well-known to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who was previously youth team manager at Stamford Bridge.

Rodgers also linked up with the Italian international during Borini's brief loan spell at former club Swansea.

During his time in south Wales, the Parma player scored six goals in just nine games and earned the penalty which secured the Swans' Championship play-off victory over Reading.

And Italian newspaper La Gazetta Dello Sport have suggested Rodgers is ready to make Borini his first signing at Liverpool.

Currently on international duty with Italy at Euro 2012, Borini spent last year on loan at Roma where he scored nine goals in 24 Serie A appearance.

I know a few chelsea fans who were livid he left. Perhaps pesam can enlighten us to his Swansea days

"Fabio is a terrific young talent,'' added Brendan. "His movement is fantastic for a young player. You could say he is a typical Italian number nine. He never gives defenders a breather and he has got the hunger to score goals.

"To bring in a player to play in that position they need to have certain attributes. You need to move, be strong and be very aggressive. And the intensity of the player in that role is very important.

"For this final run in I wanted to bring some freshness into the group. A new signing always sparks off other players and I feel straight away there was a feelgood factor in training.

"I've always said I've been looking for certain types and that will never stop. He's always scored goals and his movement is good, his touch is good and he sets up the game well.

"I'm grateful Chelsea let us have him and we've got something in place that means there is an option to buy him at the end of the contract if he still doesn't sign his offer at Stamford Bridge."

And his celebration style:

Just had an Italian journo on Talksport saying there's no way he will go to parma, he's very keen to join us & it was a mistake for chelsea to let him go as he would have been good enough to play for them last season & improve them.

Sounds promising.

These are the kind of players we will be in for I guess. Young dumb and full of potential.

BRENDAN Rodgers reckons Fabio Borini will live with expectation at Swansea City — because he demands goals anyway.

The on-loan Chelsea starlet has set the bar high after firing a double on a spectacular debut against Nottingham Forest.

And Rodgers insists Borini will be happy trying to keep up the good work at Preston next Saturday.

"Fabio lives for goals," said the Swansea manager.

"First and foremost he expects to score in every game he plays.

"He has come here to get us goals and he is the type who will at least come close every time he goes on to the pitch.

"He always looks like he is going to score or get an assist. That's his function in our team and he is happy with that.

"We will let him play with the freedom to express himself and usually, when you do that, you get performances."

By no means the biggest striker in the Championship, Borini is thought likely to lead the line once more at Deepdale.

And Rodgers is confident the Italian will cope with the extra physical demands which can come on the road in the second tier.

"You saw how physical Fabio can be against Forest," he added.

"He played against one of the toughest defenders in the league in Wes Morgan — he won't get a bigger physical test than that — and his strength and power shone through.

"He coped admirably with Morgan and, whether he is playing at home or away, Fabio wants to score goals."

Borini is with the Italy Under-21s for their friendly in Germany tomorrow and will not train again with Swansea before Thursday. But his remarkable contribution in his first Swansea game means Rodgers will be desperate to give him another chance to shine.

"He put everything into his debut and had a fantastic impact," Rodgers said.

"I am pleased for the club. They showed belief in me again by letting me bring in a young player when lots of clubs wouldn't have taken a chance.

"There's great joy as a manager in seeing a player who you first saw as a boy producing the performance of a man."

FABIO Borini has thanked Swansea City for welcoming him to Wales — and insisted he could play for the club again in the future.

The Italian says he will cherish the memories of last Monday's Championship play-off final win for Reading, the last game of his loan spell from Chelsea.

Swansea were keen to keep Borini, but the striker had already agreed to join Serie A side Parma.

And while he is relishing the prospect of playing in his homeland, Borini was sad to miss the chance of playing for Swansea in the Premier League.

"I really enjoyed my time at Swansea — the people there were really happy to have me and they helped me every day," Borini said in exclusive interview with the Evening Post.

"Even when I went shopping in Sainsbury's, people stopped me and encouraged me and asked me to stay. It was a great atmosphere.

"And I cannot forget in my head the noise of the fans at Wembley and all the happiness we could see around us.

"I have pictures of Wembley on my laptop and I will never forget that day.

"I will never forget Swansea — the club will stay with me

Swansea missed out on re-signing Fabio Borini before the transfer deadline, according to the player's agent.

‘Swansea did make contact and Brendan Rodgers called me to ask me the situation with Fabio, but I had to tell him we were already with Roma and the deal was done,’ said Marco de Marchi.

‘I felt very sad because Brendan did a lot for Fabio, but we have to look forward and we will wish Swansea City a very good season in the Premier League.’

“I think they will do very well,” he said. “They have got a great manager who had experience with Jose Mourinho in the Premier League.

“I really hope they do well and I’m going to follow them from Italy.

“I think they’ve got a good opportunity to do well, but I don’t want to say anything bigger than what they expect because they have a long way to go.

“They have very good players, especially up front with Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer, and with the midfield and back four, they’ve got a very good side.

“They have to play the identical way as they did in the Championship because otherwise they will lose their personality so they need to continue in that manner.”

He continued: “It was a good experience for me at Swansea. It wasn’t as good as Chelsea or Parma, but I learnt a lot.

“I believe I did a pretty good job and I think they were still happy with me, even though I left after they got into the Premier League.

“It means a lot to me.”

Borini says he will keep in touch with his former team-mates and spoke to Rodgers as recently as Friday before he nearly got the winner at the Cardiff City Stadium the following day.

And, while he is going to be playing in one of the world’s biggest leagues in Serie A himself, Borini says he would like to return to the Premier League one day.

He only managed a handful of appearances for Chelsea under Carlo Ancelotti and wouldn’t rule out a move back to the Swans either – there’s only one catch though.

“Yes, if they are playing in the Champions League,” he joked.

“I keep in touch with Brendan, I spoke to him on Friday night, and the secretary came to the Cardiff game to give me some DVDs of the play-offs and I will keep in touch with the players as well.

“It’s still my dream to play in the Premier League because I only played four times with Chelsea.

“The Premier League is the best league so you always want to play there.”
