One thing that excites me about this season is Pacheco. About time he was giving a chance.

Are we finally seeing a manager who will give youth a chance? With Kelly coming in too, it's looking good.

So who will make the biggest impact? If Arsenal gave their young players a go at the ages of 17/18 why can't we?

With Konchesky's signing Kelly is only going to get games in the Europa and the CC.
The same is probably true for Pacheco but that could amount to 10 games or so and that would be great for both of them. I just hope Pacheco is as good as everyone says he is and that he becomes a first team regular for us.

He didn't start Pacheco when Cole was banned and we needed creativity in the final third, so I'd say it's far from certain how much game time he'll see.

He has a signed a new contract which is promising, but it could all go so very wrong. Look at Insua.

Players of his size and stature have to be very good to make it in the Prem.

I'd love to see Pacheco get some game time, so long as we don't have to rely on him.

I remember in previous seasons how people bemoaned the fact that Rafa wasn't giving talented youth a chance... player like Insua, Spearing, Derby, Mellor, etc. come to mind.

Then they get a chance and the same people who complained about them not having a chance went on to complain about these players being shit.

He will change his line up to make room for Lucas before playing Pacheco every time. He will make the cautious approach we have got used to the last 12 years.

If he didnt play Pacheco at home against WBA, when would he do it?

I'm not at all arsed about how old players are, really. I think people wanted to see "youth" get a chance, simply because many of the so-called senior players are shit

He had a chance to play him when Cole was out but didn't. I don't think he's *planning* to use him much. It's down to Pacheco to really impress during CC games and push through.

Well he could be a regular starter in the Carling Cup, and maybe some games in the Europa league?

Playing alongside guys like Jovanovic, Kuyt, Maxi, Poulsen, and perhaps Gerrard and Torres at times, will be good for him.

Patches came on and had a very good 15 minutes against Trabzonspor. Our next game was at home to one of the supposed weaker teams and we were deprived of Cole's creativity. It was a situation that was screaming out for Pacheco's involvement but instead Roy put out a very defensive looking unit that struggled to overcome WBA.

I was very pissed off that Patches wasn't given his chance against WBA and am convinced that he'll be messed around all season and will leave next summer.

Rooney was 16 when he played for Everton and 17 when he played for United - Pacheco is nearly 20! FFS Roy give the kid a chance.

Hmmm. Rooney was already one of the best players in the Premiership at 18, and was also built like a brick shithouse.

Rafa did give some youth a chance, if they showed any promise they appeared again the next season

Shitadje and Cavalieri were not 'youth'. They were reserves.

And although you are correct that he gave some youth players a chance at times, judging by that lot they appeared the following season even if they DIDN'T show any promise.
Plessis and El Zhar never showed any promise.

In any case, Benitez's way of bringing youth players through appeared to be a case of throwing them all in together in League Cup games, along with other squad 'dregs' who had been promised those games. Young players will always be pretty raw to start with and the way to bring them through I'd have thought would be to play them as part of the senior team

He may not start but the signs are he'll be a substitute quite alot and have the chance to force his way in, thats good news indeed.

It's true that Rooney had a very mature build for a kid and Pacheco is slightly built. I'm all for protecting kids at first and introducing them gradually but Pacheco is nearly 20 and it's about time he was unleashed. I think him and Torres could be awesome together.

I don't know why footballers don't hit the gym in the same way as other sports.

Ronaldo built up and he became a much better player as a result. Rooney was always burly and had natural strength, etc, etc.

Being a little twig in England is no advantage whatsoever. At the very least they should really toned in the upper body and arms.

Hopefully I'm going to catch the Reserves-game tonight and I will really look forward to see a few players outthere.

Pacheco, Sosu, Eccleston, Irwin, Saric and Mavinga for starters.

Eccleston and Saric must be rather excited by the fact they are not THAT far off the firstteam anymore with regards to N'Gog, Babel and Kuyt beeing to only valid options should Torres need a break. A lot of good performances and goals for the Reserves should give them the chance in a CC or EL game after all.

Mavinga and Irwin are both very promising and who knows maybe the latter will soon be ready for some first team action. I'm sure he's going to get more games than Spearing at least.

Pacheco is usually head and shoulders above the rest in the Reserves and maybe Sosu will join him soon in that aspect?

Suso --- i really really rate Adjorian - He is a very intelligent footballer from what i have seen.

Ok, off-topic a little, but thought I'll post this here since Pacheco is involved. 🙂 Today's reserve team vs. Wigan:

Liverpool: Hansen; Flanagan, Robinson, Irwin, Mavinga, Darby, Amoo, Spearing, Saric, Pacheco, Eccleston

Subs: Bouzanis, Palsson, Roberts, Gomis Mendy, Cooper

Hansen seem to be around for quite some time already (and Gulasci had overtaken him in the pecking order). Can't really see a future for Darby at the club, as well as Irwin. Robinson's progress this season and next will be interesting. Looking at the lineup, the defenders seem pretty versatile cos there seem to be 4 full backs (though I think Mavinga and Darby can play CB as well?).

Fabregas then. He was 16 when he made his debut for Arsenal and his build wasn't different from Pacheco's. It really boils down eventually to how good you are.

Shelvey should be playing before Lucas or Poulsen. Which means by default he should be in the starting XI if Gerrard is not playing CM.

When the alternatives are known to be fucking terrible then its probably worth the risk

Twice, which is also as many times as I have seen Poulsen play. Needless to say, I thought Shelvey was much better.

Poulson has played about an hour of Footy, he is 2-3 weeks behind the rest of the Squad in fitness levels, yet a lot of people are writing him off.

I agree with that. I think Poulsen will certainly prove to be better than Lucas (I fervently hope so, at least). However, on the evidence so far, I think Shelvey is a better player.

He can perhaps become a better player I'm not going to argue otherwise as I've never seen him play and it seems people who has rates him a lot.

However to state that he's a better player than a player of Poulsens caliber at this day and age is really, really daft.

One has played 42 games for Charlton in the Championship/League One whereas the other has played almost 300 games for the likes of Schalke, Sevilla and Juve. Add to that around 75 International games too including several World Cups and European Championships.
